Seriously, 20 years and no one within the company has brought these areas into post Cata.

It sounds like they are updating it. I am sure they will have Zoridormi let players do the zones how they were, but Blizz did say they wanted seamless sky riding from EK to the Quel’Thalas area.
No one knows yet. They said an updated Quel’thalas. But I highly doubt the starter zones will be redone.
It’ll probably be the original areas stay instanced in the Outland map and the new area is just part of the EK map.

but when will they update void elves to look good? OOF.
I can understand the desire, but they didn’t even bother to update Stormwind as a capital city. It’s a patchwork of mostly outdated graphics with a few new elements thrown in. It just looks absolutely dreadful.

Silvermoon City, Eversong Woods and Ghostlands will be updated in Midnight. We could even get an extension of the Amani territory in this expansion 
over our dead bodies.
As I mentioned, the devs just threw in a few new elements while leaving most of it in its vanilla state.
Here’s just one of many examples: there’s already a new model for the lion heads. What did Blizzard do? They swapped out a few but left the majority in their outdated state. Even significant places like the gate at the entrance or the castle didn’t get the new model. And as I said, this is just one of many examples.
It’s a patchwork rug.
We don’t know how they’re doing these areas, though. They aren’t going to delete the starter zones. And I doubt they’re going to completely redo them.
So my theory is they’ll leave the Outland map version alone and create a new one part of the EK map for the new content.

Except all of the graphics of the stonework and most buildings were revamped in Cata.

To be honest, I don’t really know how to respond when you’re making things up…
Like… log into the game, fly to the outer gate of Stormwind… you’ll see the old model right in front of you. It’s the same with the castle. So sorry, but I don’t know what to add when you’re denying something that can be proven just by logging into the game.
Old content is old content. Unless there’s a game play reason to do so, they don’t update old zones. It would be a waste of time.
Even if only one side is story-relevant, it’d be kinda lame if the Draenei starting areas get left as they are while the BE starting areas get some sort of update to modernize them.
Well, it fits with what Blizzard tends to do. Or do you see three Horde cities being made neutral just like that, the way it happened to the Night Elves, Worgen, and Void Elves? No, not even Suramar is neutral. The Horde got their own phase, and if you want to bring up the home of the HMT, then you can compare it to Mechagon as neutral counterpart. The fact is, they made three Alliance locations neutral, while everything for the Horde remained exclusive. And don’t even get me started on races like female humans for visage form and now dwarves or a customization option for gnomes vs a new mainstream fox race.
Like I said, it wouldn’t surprise me if only Quel’thalas gets an update.
To think the old version will still exist after the redone version is uploaded into the game would be ignorant. They would most likely than not to delete the old one and replace it with the new and have it phased with the new version instead of the old version. Since, they have said they want the zone to be seamless and so they have to outright use the brand new version of the map for both old and new content instead of the old and deprecated version of the zone.
Yes it’s what I have in mind. Keep the old area, make a new one like what we got for Darkshore or Tirisfal Glades. It’s the best option now to keep old areas and make new ones.
