Well you see, there was this guy Kevin who we always saw just chillin’ and we thought what does that guy even do here? He worked in DevOps. So we let him go.
As it turns out! Kevin was a bit of an automater. And well, Kevin was the guy who wrote our automated character restore that we used to lay off 90% of the support staff. So yeah last t patch we broke it and… we reached out to Kevin. We’re hoping he calls us back.
most XXXXXX development team, 2 months and they still can’t activate a basic function of the game, incomplete classes, bug, it doesn’t make sense and yet we are still paying… are they going to give dates or are we still waiting “a few” weeks??

Why is it still deactivated and why do only a few people get their char back?
A blue told me that under some circumstances the request can be escalated and have the character restored, doesn’t make much sense to me either though.
The issue is that they had to change the whole character and game database structure and related processes in order for Warbands to function. Character data may seem simple, but when it now impacts the whole Battlenet account in a huge way, and every other char on it, that is not insignificant.
The tools for players to restore deleted chars into the new database structure are not done yet. They took the restore function offline before Warbands for that reason, I assume.
If anyone got an exception I would guess it was escalated to a specialist who manually handled the data restoration into the new data structures.
The tool will return when they have it set up to properly put the character data back into the new system.
I don’t work there so I could be wrong, of course, but I THINK that is what is going on.
Here is a thread talking about Datacenter Maint that was major down time back at the end of June. Just before the patch that implemented Warbands. Discussion in the thread is about the Database and about the Datacenter.
So it is not unreasonable to put massive database changes and datacenter upgrades together with Warbands coming out and conclude that Warbands and other functions they released required those changes.
HUZZAH!! This was fixed with the weekly reset, I was able to recover my character (and the relevant gold!)
And the CD is only 60 seconds.

I have submitted a bug report opened a ticket still got a ticket open yet I keep getting told to do what the same thing over and over but my problem seems to be different from what others have wrong.
Have you tried running repair or reinstalling, seems weird if it only affects you
Ok so let me break down what I have done for the thousandth time lol I have full reset my ui I don’t have addons I reinstalled twice I click the character restore button and it freezes after a second of loading and widows has to force close the game cause it crashed No I don’t even get to see any characters of my deleted list cause I don’t get that far.
Ui and addons would have nothing to do with that, you need to try to repair first and then reinstall if that doesn’t work
Did repair and reinstall first time doesn’t help sadly.
