Ive been involved fairly heavily in the WoW RP scene for the past few years. Its by far my favorite part of the game and the reason that I stick around. And last night I saw the announcement of the upcoming Scourge Invasion for Shadowlands. Across the forums I have seen a some RPers displeased with this, as if its ruining their chance of RP during that particular event.
I just dont see it that way. I see this as a way of possibly organizing one of the biggest and best modern day large scale RPs that could involve dozens of players and guilds from both the Alliance and the Horde. In my mind, all of us fighting together and defending an area would be peak RP. Especially defending those that RP civilians or non combatants. Even bringing some of you old timers out of retirement for one last mobilization. I mean come on. How much better could this be? What a great opportunity for some characters to find a reason to go to back to Northrend and enter the Shadowlands in the first place. (If your character is choosing to go that is.)
Yeah sure we know what is about to happen OOCly, but to me we can ICly prepare for this. I even have an idea how to spark this event at our level before the patch. The only thing I could need at this point is the help of some Death Knights to legitimize it during an IC event that we would all attend. But we can talk about that later.
Anyway, this post is sort of an interest check before we start scheduling anything. Who knows how many opportunities the RP community will get to do something like this together. A great opportunity to immerse ourselves in an event, network with each other, and build our character stories. If we dont, I personally consider it a lost opportunity. And then poof, it may not ever happen again. I know I speak for my small but active RP guild when I say we are in for this.
Seems like it will since theyâre on the PTR together?
To OP, yeah, this event seems like itâll be a great time for RPers. Folks can decide if theyâre going to the Shadowlands or will choose to stay on Azeroth but still kind of know that something is wrong. Could definitely be a time for guild relationship building as well as making new alliances.
Undead swarm literally every city and infect unsuspecting folks. PCs can be turned into undead and spread the disease to other PCs and NPCs. It is utter chaos. There are pylons that act as the âsummoningâ center where you kill NPCs to get goodies. In WotLK you got a recolor of some Vanilla sets, a teal Judgement set as an example, and you also go a âHaunted Heirloomâ which made a ghost follow you around. The Heirloom could be tossed to other players similar to the Happy Fun Rock. I also think there was a currency you could turn in?
So if you want a reason to make a character undead, this might be a good time to do that transition? CULT OF THE DAMNED IS BACK BABY!
So far on the PTR, the event is not identical to the Scourge Event from Wrath but it may continue to go down that route.
RIght now, the zombie plague is very much the same (although I think theyâre doing some work on scaling/tuning still). On the PTR though thereâs also a small quest chain that takes you to Ice Crown where the Argent tournament is apparently a bit of a rallying point.
At the end of the quest chain, some dailies are unlocked across Icecrown and it suggests that Icecrown will be an expanding daily zone. There are also various WotLK bosses that can spawn as events throughout the zone so far. [Edit no sign of the necropolis attacks throughout the old world yet, Icecrown Scourge seem to be the source of Scourgestone drops]
Zombies might not come day one of the patch release, although thatâs what theyâre testing right now. Based on Wrath, they wonât leave the zombie part up too long because of the chaos it can create.
Iâm with you Hotoh, I think itâs a great opportunity for some fun RP and events, especially while itâs short term. I was on Maelstrom back in Wrath and we had a lot of fun trying to keep areas âcleanâ (or alternately switching sides and seeing how far we can spread the plague).
Iâll just say that during the Burning of Teldrassil both Kunbo & Pao spent days in Darnassus, immersively looking for other people RPing the event. Was able to help friends and strangers
One of my favorite nights of RP ever was the night before Bfa launch, so many of us role-playing the night before battle in Lordaeron as we watched the Alliance siege machines come closer.
I can definitely see a great opportunity for a large organized RP event. I canât commit right now but itâs something Iâd like to see.
I do also see a great opportunity for griefing, based on how itâs going on the PTR thus far. Hopefully it will get tuned up a lot. But yeah, between the mechanics and Wyrmrestâs history with plague events, I do understand where people are coming from.
Iâm hopeful youâll get enough people to pull it off, and have a lot of fun.
Oh gosh will it impact the newer and/or neutral cities too? Dalaran, Shattrath, Boralus, Dazarâalor, soforth? D: It sounds kinda horrifying. Though I agree with OP that this might be a great opportunity for RP. There kinda wonât be a place for downtime, weâll be on the front lines!
Just saw a video on it, yup! The zombies are all over! Just like for pre-wrath! Itâs fantastic, itâs so awesome and all the normie NPCs are confused too! Itâs just, âwtf is going on? How are the Scourge back?â
It can, but the only way itâll creep into those cities is with PCs directly going there to spread the plague. At least if memory serves that was how it happened, I donât remember ghouls flooding into the city as an eventâŚjust from PCs infecting NPCs and other PCs.
Itâs with PCs that are infected going into cities and infecting other players and NPCs when they âturnâ. So think Strathome citizen eating their bread and then BAM. Youâre a ghoul.
Tbh, this event is a good time to kill off a normie citizen character you might want to die to start a new character.
