Upcoming Australian Dollar (AUD) Price Changes for World of Warcraft Subscriptions, Game Time, and WoW Tokens

The fact I was suspended for a day just commenting on this issue is crazy, some real sensitive snowflakes who obviously don’t like us Australians.

Now is the time to get out of this mess that we know today as Blizzard. Greedy money hungry thieves.

I refunded Shadowlands and my subscription runs out early December, I haven’t even really been playing in the last 1-2 months anyway.

I wasn’t hyped for the expansion, Classic (where most of my time has been spent since Classic launch) isn’t grabbing me anymore, I’d probably wait to see if and when TBC comes around.

My eyes are firmly set on Ashes of Creation and whatever news comes out of Dreamhaven (Mike Morhaime’s new studio and I’m sure new projects to come) if the top guy at Blizzard leaves after founding the company you know there is some REALLY serious issues… and Chris Metzen who’s just launched Warchief Gaming… let’s not forget the third company that’s come out from ex-Blizzard peeps Frost Giant.

Don’t be a cash cow for Blizzard, don’t pay the new price. Since when has Blizzard ever given a rats about Oceanic players? How long did we wait ever so patiently for Oceanic servers? Not to mention all the other issues we have…

Get out while you can - RIP Blizzard for Oceanic players.

oh and you’re more credible than those posted online, but yet you think every other countries’ numbers are as posted.

I only pay for Legal Price rises. You are Fake News and I hereby declared your price rise Illegal and doesn’t count.

I also may be your new President as well now, but I’ll let that slide …

I also played SWTOR quite a lot until I realised it’s just too expensive to maintain. Glad I got out of that sinking ship when I did.

Comparing things like entertainment to “smokes” and “a slab” of booze is just… completely way off point here.

Hello fellow Arugal friend yep couldn’t agree more. It’s done for, thanks Blizzard.

Because we are already paying more than you? We pay $23.99 for a subscription

Wonder if blizzard will even acknowledge all the people unhappy with this probably hiding away hoping it blows over

I hope your company loses a lot of money

[quote=“Rayshana-amanthul, post:347, topic:716670, full:true”]. Please don’t comment about how expensive a WOW sub is if you smoke @$A35 a pack and and drink $A60 a slab. There was also in increase in Netflix and Spotify as well. Stuff costs - simple.

Who Pays 60 for a slab? Go to Dan’s and get it cheaper…

Netflix increases though weren’t specific to 1 country. If I were to have a shop and say anyone from America has to pay more that by definition would be racism.

Yes the government brought out new tax laws and in turn we had a price increase for service then. If this is really due to the “netflix tax” then it should have been then when all the other items were increased.

If as they say it is all about the dollar exchange why doesn’t it get cheaper when the exchange rate works in our favor? It’s just Bliz finding an excuse to make more money from us during these trying times. Why can’t they allow people to pay 15USD so if this is all about the exchange rate. Won’t make much difference now but when it is in our favor it’ll be fine?

What makes matters worse is that To make it worse they won’t fix our biggest issues.

That sucks about the ban but yeah their are some

I think what people are most upset by this is the fact that going from 16.5 --> 20 is greater than a 20% price increase in a single hit is a bit step.

Personally I have refunded my Shadowlands purchase and cancelled by 6 month sub.

Me too mate, only have a month to go on my sub. I was playing mostly Classic up until a month or two ago.

I encourage other Aussies to do the same, don’t be a cash cow to this company. This isn’t the Blizzard we used to know. They’ve never given a crap about us so why should we support them.

I didn’t cancel my pre purchase of shadowlands as it is just a extra 20 bucks or less for the 6 month sub. But like BFA I plan to just hit cap and take the long break and do away with the gear grind.

I had more fun these past two weeks return at the very end than I know I would have had I stayed for the entire bfa. That is how I will treat this game from now on. Cut scenes are always on youtube so it is not like any content was missed.

So I can assume when things change again you will be re-evaluating the prices once again and reducing them accordingly?

Or will it be like in 2011-2012 when the Australian Dollar was worth more than the US dollar but you still charged us more?

You have a huge Character, the achievements are wow and I don’t know if I could walk away from that. Everyone has their breaking point, I hope things are reversed with this 7/11 style price gouge.

As a month to month subscriber, this hurts. Cancelled pre order and sub. Sorry not sorry Bliz, but during a recession and a global pandemic you choose to increase prices for those already struggling. WoW was a nice escape from that bullcrap. Bring on cyberpunk.

Wishful thinking, once they’ve got the money why would they ever “revert” it?

Well done. Yep I think it hurts everyone who enjoyed WoW. It’s just a shell of it’s former self.

Actually Blizzard have made plenty of mistakes before. So thats incorrect haha. Why are you sitting here defending Blizzards price hike? I’m just curious.

Sorry Blizzard but I will be cancelling my subscription it isn’t worth the price all other mmo’s are strangely not doing a price hike so I find your reasoning full of crap. It is a shame, I have a 6 month subscription but because this kick in the guts makes me not want to play the game at all. Your choice as a company, but it is another stupid decision like many you have made the last couple of years. Reforged, do you even have phones, political nonsense and now arbitrarily raising the cost of subs. Bye Blizz.

I just started wow and I can’t believe they raised the prices during a worldwide epidemic. I unsubscribed, I’m assuming they wont refund my 6 month sub but I can’t morally support a company that does that. I’ll play something else.

All ready Done

I’m in the US, but it seems unfair that AUS goes up but not NZ. Both AUD and NZD were in a steady decline against the USD up until Mar-2020 (Pandemic time). As Blackstannis pointed out though, the change in a 5-year period is < 3%, so I would agree it’s nothing to do with exchange rate and something to do with the cost of doing business in AUS (compared to NZ). Could be taxes, cost of compliance with consumer protection laws, server/hosting upkeep, etc. but something along those lines costs more in AUS than in NZ, because it’s not the difference in exchange rate.

AUS vs USD up +1.4% 20-Nov-2015 to 13-Nov-2020 (0.72 to 0.73)
NZD vs USD up 3.0% 20-Nov-2015 to 13-Nov-2020 (0.66 to 0.68)

A -10% relative change in currency exchange value over a 5-year period might warrant a change in pricing on that factor alone, but > 0% seems like a sure reason not to hike the price. Most likely “other market factors.”

Edit: I didn’t realize that the subscriptions rates were not all normalized to the US rates against the USD to local currency. If Country A pays the equivalent of $15 USD/month and Country B pays only $11 USD/month, the bean counters are going to want to increase rates for Country B. Seems like a no-brainer given they weren’t all $15 USD equivalent to begin with.
