Unpopular Opinions for stuff in the media

Yep, but a lot of parents that I knew personally figured, hey, if they’re cartoons, they’re for kids, what’s the harm?

In the most notable case, a friend of mine (with strong fundamentalist Christian leanings) was chatting away in the pantry while her 6-8 year old kids were watching “Tom’s Rhinoplasty” in the living room.

That’s why I included parents in my comment.

I was surprised, and fascinated, by the suggestion in another venue discussing the program, that Richard Ayoade should be the next Doctor. I don’t know how that would work out, but it woud be interesting. The person they have announced is someone I’ve never heard of.

Meanwhile, Daria was a much better show than South Park, or The Family Guy.

You know, after seeing a random clip of him on a British game show, I can kind of see it. Definitely something new.

how dare you

new rock is mid. 90s-2000s metal is not

I’m detecting a strange/no sense of humor

Ohhh

Never read either. GoT didn’t put me to sleep at least, lord of the rings is asmr

Daria is too boring and depressing for me to handle. South Park is too gross and “in your face”. Family Guy is a better fit for me, dumb but funny.

Ha! You can’t understand me ever on my favorite guy.

For dumb but funny I prefer “King of the Hill”.

At least it’s all people who look and act like parody of people I actually know, rather than some drug induced parody of unrealistic stereotypes of people who don’t actually exists in my universe.

In my universe, and I lived in 3 states and 2 countries, Family Guy accurately describes the people I met and personally know.

New York City is a hell hole. Dog crap everywhere and homeless people ranting nonsense. Dirty, polluted and full of mean faced people. Smug elitists also.

Avoiding the assumption you’re a fellow Army brat: my experience growing up was, Fort Richardson Alaska, Columbus Georga, Independence Missouri, Rochester New York, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Nürnberg (Fürth) Germany.

We each get to see the world from our own perspective, “you are where you were when” I suppose.

Lol no, I’m not a military brat. My dad keeps getting a new job every several years. I was born in Mexico and lived there until I was 9, lived in Michigan for 6 years, CT for another 6 years, and now live in TN. I moved states because my dad’s company moves to different states.

It’s kinda sad because I don’t feel like I have a hometown to identify with. Most of my childhood friends lived in the towns I grew up in.

Not knowing what part of NYC you spent time in, all large and even medium sized metropolitan areas, anything over ~500,000 or so, have better and worse neighborhoods.

We tend to form prejudices based on the part of the city we first encountered. My own personal prejudices are just as biased as anyone else’s, but knowing that doesn’t change them.

I like San Francisco, Tucson, Berlin, Nürnberg, Budapest, Independence, Toronto, Vancouver, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Omaha, Rochester, Seattle …

Dislike Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Paris, Phoenix, DC, Memphis, Sacramento, Miami, Cleveland, Utica, Fayetteville, Trenton …

Mixed feelings on Boston, St. Louis, Atlanta, Kalamazoo, London, NYC, Salt Lake, Buffalo, Montreal …

In general find people to be more polite but less friendly in the south east than in the north east, but again its all first impressions unless you really know a town and all the sections of that town (and nobody ever does) any place could end up on your top or bottom list.

I love Daria

I feel like her show is better than Beavis & Butthead.

9 - He’s top 5 at best

1 - Makes me laugh and cringe at the same time

Rock encompasses a wide range of subgenres, sounds, and styles over an extensive history. It’s hardly dying, it’s just much less a part of the mainstream despite being more musically complex and diversified.

Your dislike of their music does not make them overrated, particularly as musicians and writers.

Good practical effects are superior in the right use case, which is why they’re still in use today even in some CGI-laden films.

You’re comparing apples and oranges, and I can’t imagine why.

I might be wrong but I don’t think the point of this thread is to argue with someone’s opinion.

For one thing, you can’t have a wrong opinion about music or a movie. It’s no different than two people standing in front of a painting and saying “this is crap” “no this is art!” It’s not something that can be proven wrong like “the earth is flat!”

So if the OP thinks rock music is lame, you saying “nuh huh!” isn’t going to change their mind.

You aren’t wrong, but there is no way that a thread to post “Unpopular Opinions” in these forums could exist without those opinions being challenged.

Still a fun thread overall. It’s a blessing that the subject is “for stuff in the media” and not science or politics; and, at least so far, the OPs lead defining media as art forms, not “news media”, has been followed.

This.

And, the only people who did argue, I put on my ignore list.

I’m merely only seeing people exchanging their opinions. The moment it gets hostile is when it’s arguing, and I’m not here, for that.
