The Cataclysm zones are better & more memorable than the original Vanilla zones in most cases. It would be nice if Blizzard kept the Vanilla zones around through a Chromie-time type of system, but I absolutely hope that Blizzard will take Classic through Cataclysm so I can experience them again.
Cataclysm is my only hope of quitting Classic.
Unless they restart at the beginning at the same time they release garbage Cata then I’m screwed again.
Eh. Somewhat, but most of the, “memorable” from Cataclysm’s revamp of Azeroth are largely the dated memes. The three that I immediately think of is Redridge, Westfall, and Badlands - and all three are really lame the second time through.
Vanilla zones, however, have more subtle storylines that don’t really rely on memes and are more timeless. The memorable questlines are generally the tragic ones. The only tragic questline from Cataclysm’s revamp I can remember was the goblin/dragon? from Badlands.
Eh… maybe a couple of them were better but more often they trashed some beautiful zones like ashenvale.
Ugh. No. So many zones ruined with Marvelbrained writing and memery.
“HEH HEH YOU LIKE CSI WESTFALL? RAMBORIDGE? HARRISON JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF ULDUM? OH MAN SO WITTY”
I’m willing to bet 90% of players don’t even know Al’akir was aligned with Deathwing. Or cared. But NEIN NEIN NEIN
lol but no, lol.
You forgot Elwynn Forest, Duskwood, Westfall, Hillsbrad (RIP Southshore,) etc.
The only good thing about Cataclysm is that it gave me a reason to quit for a while.
Do they not exist in Retail?
See, Cataclysm did a good thing to the game: it showed us that time passed (and also things happened to those places).
It is kind of frustrating that you can still go right now, on retail, to Eastern Plaguelands and like 20 years later there is just a little progress, and… Stratholme is still burning.
The only thing good about Cataclysm (and I mean the only thing) was Rated battlegrounds season 1 and season 3, more specifically the Death Wing weapons in rated battlegrounds.
The rest of the expansion was a hot pile of garbage and i’m including Firelands in that equation.
They do, but you don’t experience them in the same way since players are funneled into Chromie time. Plus, you don’t have the class design or other characteristics that you’d get with the earlier expansions, so it just ends up feeling different.
Finally.
An “unpopular opinion” that is actually unpopular.
Kudos.
What really gets me is the music in the cataclysm zones. It is so good! The entire cataclysm soundtrack is pure nostalgia for me.
I agree, for the most part.
Some joke zones like Redridge got worse though.
If you’re talking about the actual Cata top level zones from 80-85 I agree. It was fantastic. One of the most fun leveling experiences I’ve ever had. You could fly right from the start.
If you’re talking about what they did to the old zones in Azeroth, I completely disagree. They ruined a world I loved and replaced it with trash.
Nah I mean the old Azeroth Zones. They’re better, sorry!
Hey now, the day that deathwing came is still a great quest
I love the take that time shouldn’t change instead of “we have time dragons that allow us to travel in time back to how zones once were… why can we not go visit pre-Deathwing Azeroth”
Strat has been burning since wc3 base game, which itself was years before wow. Both factions literally had time to sail across the ocean, colonize, build cities, and fight a major war… Arthas has since had time to sail to the broken isles and northrend for expeditions, fight multiple entire war campaignS, become lich king, sail back to epl, form the death knights, betray the death knights, then had to northrend and afk in a chair watching TV for multiple years… While stratholme has been on fire
I mean… They probably had a lot of wood idk
