Unpopular Opinion: Racial Class choices should be far more limited than they are

I have this feeling you’re getting your wish. All those Lightforged undead dudes in that one Hallowfall dungeon had me doing this:

They look sick.

I had a gasp moment when I saw it, because in one of my D&D settings I created a “holy legion” of undead that had essentially cleansed themselves in holy energy. (These were actually good guys, though.)

Very neat.

Every race can be every class. Then racials should also go. It’s unfair that undead can eat humanoids and my vulperian & worgen can’t. It has been stated so many times that nobody really cares about lore anymore. Restrictions where only created to force people to play certain races.

i think it was a mistake that druids came to horde and shamans went to alliance.

Agree.

I think everyone nowadays tries to accommodate for everyone. You want mustard and ketchup on your cheesecake? Sure. I think we will add that to our permanent menu for every customer.

Silly example but it makes the point.

Paladin purists are weird because if you ask them, the only race that should be paladins are humans and maybe dwarves.

It is funny how nobody noticed that Templar is themed after Alliance paladins who have an affinity for big hammers, while Herald was themed after Horde paladins (minus earthen) who all have an affinity for the Sun in some manner (it’s less obvious for Zandalari but Rezan was often equated to the Sun).

That was changed to be a thing in BFA.
It’s bad fanfic lore, rogues were cooler when they were just tip toeing assassins

The thing is, the way this game is designed you don’t need the shadows to stealth.

It was probably “changed” to be less stupid.

You’re not, and the fact you recognize the opinion is unpopular is a good indicator there

Yes I’m aware they contrived some back written lore. Any bad writer can do that. They do all the time.

Retcons are inevitable in a living story.

Retcons are real-life.

Even today, ask two different nations about a historic event, and you’ll get 3 different answers.

You can’t keep the story of an mmo stuck in time. Things have to change and evolve to stay interesting.

If you want to stay stuck in the past, Classic and the old Warcraft games are waiting for you.

No they aren’t, it’s just lazy writing.

if you’ve ever played dnd you would know people can go to great lengths to come up with a reasoning for their class-race fantasy. it doesn’t have to make sense to you as it’s fantasy remember.

Back when TBC came out, I kind of thought the game lost a bit of its faction charm when they let Alliance have shaman and Horde have paladins. Of course, the game had plenty of charm to spare, and other ways in which its charm grew.

I still kind of think that. There was something neat in each faction having a special class. Mounts were another thing. I remember BG’s back when they came out, and it added this extra sense of definition to see an army of players, each race on its racial mounts, since virtually no one had anything other than their racial mount. All the tauren riding kodos, all the orcs riding wolves, all the humans riding horses, dwarves riding rams, etc. It made the world feel more defined.

I don’t blame Blizzard for how things went on that stuff in the end. That options and visuals kept expanding was going to be unavoidable I think. But undeniably, some of the aesthetic identity of Azeroth’s races and factions has been lost, which was part of the world’s aesthetic charm overall. Arguably the strongest remnant still in the game of racial and faction aesthetic identity is each race’s capital.

Though most people just default to their main hub being whatever the current expansion’s neutral cosmopolitan city is, so it’s not something players tend to “feel” very much, outside the once-in-a-long-while quest chain that might send you back to talk to someone there.

Very true, though when people whine about retcons I usually just point out that LotR retcons The Hobbit in more than a few ways.

Which this guy probably doesn’t know because he hasn’t read the books.

So we should make every race have every class. Why are we limiting ourselves. To help with balancing we should rework all classes. Every class should have the same number of DOT, physical attacks and ranged attacks. Each should do the exact same amount of damage. The only difference would be based on what class you choose. Different animations for the different classes but still the same. Drop all racials so there isn’t any racials stronger than others. Then the game should be so much easier to balance. Don’t have to worry about anyone being unique either.

IMO:
The ‘purity’ of game lore and it’s creators seemed to hold true for awhile… it became popular, and now it’s all watered down for money making and pleasing the 'intolerant and ‘WS corp overlords’ … I really don’t care anymore. Doesn’t seem to matter, new players don’t know what was before and probably don’t care either.

Just like what I see in my own country, older, generations are now mostly just derided, shamed, thrown aside… rather what was some respect for those with experience and more knowledge that came before. Kind of like the movie ‘Idiocacy’… funny but rings true.

Underneath, it’s all a ‘formula’ of destruction for the ‘old’ ways - This is Just My Opinion.

I mean he wouldnt be wrong if he did that. Man’ari rpers are pretty much all terrible lmao. “Bro you dont get it i need my super special one of a kind draenei rogue so i can sit around sw how i want!!!”

The flavor and soul of this game has been so butchered. The story is universaly a laughing stock because of this mentality.

Aren’t the Val’kyr extinct since the Sylvanas raid? I ask because the only way humans can become Druid is if they’re Worgen or if they’re kul’tiran, and would have to have died or be dead during Sylvanas’s reign to be UD druids…back in BFA.

Then we have Calia who was raised undead by holy light with the help of Anduin, Alonsus and the naaru Saa’ra. Idk if Calia is raising the dead or plans to raise the dead with the use of holy light, but if she is, then she would have to raise dead worgen and kul’tiran, not only with holy magic, but as now two races in one.
