Unpopular opinion (probably) Sylvannas cinematic *spoiler*

Anothe Stupid blind Sylvanas fan.

Well… surely he must be thinking that his outcome knowing that Ion will torment us with more Sylvanas for the future probably in another lazy, boring and wasted HD opening cinematic, instead of showing us about the new zone that awaits us like Vainila and TBC cinematic.

It was good until Little Miss Perfect thought she was good enough to “advice” the Jailer on “You have what you need move on” and shot a dumb little toy arrow.

You can see the cracks in her loyalty building during the whole expansion.

Oh no whatever shall we do, the genius Sylvanas who can think 5D chess doesn’t understand that the person who uses everyone like they’re trash is also capable of using her like trash.

Likewise.

A lot of people are jumping on the hate train right now and they’re making broad assumptions about Sylvanas’s fate and her motiviations. The biggest one I’m seeing is “Oh! Blizzard are going to redeem her, she’s going to become the hero!” but there’s no evidence of that. Watching that cinematic made it clear that everything she did was self-serving.

Could she have attempted to free the others who were bound in chains? She could have yes, that’s what someone who wanted redemption would have done.

Could she have attempted to take Anduin out of the picture, maybe by knocking him out and potentially freeing him from domination (or at least setting up the potential to be freed) at the cost of her own life? She could have, that’s what someone who wanted redemption would have done.

But she didn’t do either of those things. She instead shot an arrow at the Jailer’s face, and it wasn’t even a good attempt at an attack. She wasn’t trying some flex power move where she showed some intent to fight the Jailer. Nope. That arrow was a show of defiance. Not for them, but for herself. ‘She’ would never serve. Not ‘We’ will never serve. She would never, because she doesn’t care about the others, she’s not on their side, she’s on her side and only cares about her freedom.

That blow wasn’t one where she shows intent to fight, because she’d rather die than serve, and I’m sure that’s what she was hoping for. That the Jailer would kill her, either with his own power, or by using Anduin. But instead the Jailer pulled the cruelest joke of all, by giving her back her soul before leaving her to be punished by the others. Taliesin made an apt comparison in his breakdown of the cinematic.

The Jailer is about to flood the world, and he is the ark. Sylvanas was welcome on the ark, but now she’s rebelled and told him “I’m not leaving my house.” to which his response is “Fine, stay in your house, here’s an umbrella.” it’s a cruel twisted joke on his part, because in his mind he knows he’s going to flood the world so he’s sentencing Sylvanas to death by drowning, since that umbrella is going to be about as useful as a screendoor on a submarine.

Excellent analysis

Bingo.

Ending on a cliffhanger, “Gasp, how will we ever know what happens?!” for shows and iterative games pushes me to disengage. I seek finality, and then wonder what next? I don’t wonder what next with this cinematic. Frankly, we know what next and are now told to shut up and wait.

Not the best writing.

This is nothing more than a “Thanos” type storyline lol. Go figure…

I actually did like this part.

I think his original shaded model we saw before SL ever launched was probably the best and this moved him closer to that.

Otherwise yeah I didn’t really care for Sylvanas. They needed to go all in with her like they did with Garrosh except her hill to die on was remaking the world as she/the jailer saw best.

I knew Ion and devs could post with alts on forums but didn’t realize members of the writing team could too.

The more you know :man_shrugging:

We will get more and more story every week.

That’s pretty funny

It would have been a lot better if he did this BEFORE Sylvanas had any moment of hesitation. That would have shown a severely sadistic side to the expansion’s villain. As of right now, he’s just really lame.

I’m not particularly enjoyin’ it, but glad you enjoyed it OP.

Most people agree the story is lacking or boring, and yet some people like it. Some people like to pick things out of the garbage too… I’ll give you that, it is my opinion.

Quality of videos? I am talking pixels and definition of image. The cut scenes were something everyone, I mean everyone, use to look forward to. Not just some, but everyone who get energized to delve into the next patch. They were amazing hyper-realistic eye candy. The ‘quality’ of these cut scene and animations have been downgraded significantly since then. Maybe you are color blind, or visually cannot tell the difference, but it is a fact that the quality as been degraded.

No you’re right. This was not one of their best visual cinematics. That’s a fair point.
