ā€˜Morning Sethrak thread!

They do. Iā€™m wondering if that pupil shape serves a purpose in the type of vision some animals have. Iā€™m willing to bet it does.

I had actually nearly forgotten this pupil shape appeared in snakes until we started talking about eye customization for Sethrak.

Iā€™m still looking for examples of scarring and other types of eye damage that could be good reference to post here.

Or ya know, just because Iā€™m excited and I LOVE this stuff.

Well for the sideways pupils Iā€™ll just vomit some info on you unceremoniously:

The pupil shape and orientation can have an effect on their depth of field. In this case, horizontal pupils sacrifice some sharpness with the advantage of an extremely wide- nearly 360 degree in some species- field of vision.

Obviously, this is useful for a prey animal. They need much less to see the predator clearly than they do to spot the predator at all and run. (In fact, most prey animals would probably prefer not seeing a predator very closely.) Similar to the ways that vertical slit pupils are better at seeing horizontal motion, horizontal slit pupils see vertical motion more sharply, a better way of spotting distant predators.

I wonder if Vine Snakes are a little lower on the totem pole then, or maybe have a whole bunch of predators. Maybe being up high in the trees means they need more vertical motion/distance.

Iā€™m sure Blizz will have no trouble adding in some nice battle-weary options and if they are more snake specific that would just add to it!

As an aside I ran into this, its from last year but still interesting:

It doesnā€™t really relate much to Sethrak but its neat~ Iā€™d say it could be an origin but then all the Sethrak would need to be clones of Sethrallis.

Or it may be to help them find prey. Likely a bit of both. Good information either way!

The Twig Snake I posted is in the same genus as the Boomslang so they have a nasty and potent venom. The Asian Vine is also venomous but it is far more mild. Both species are rear fanged. So the fangs sit back in the mouth, behind the eye. Despite these defense mechanisms (venom is always a secondary defense mechanism, and primarily a means of subduing prey) both species are predated.

As far as the Ananconda. Parthenogenesis is not uncommon in snakes at all. And not all babies are clones! It is just the fertilization of ovum without the help of a male.
Female and male offspring can be produced this way.

It could be a way Sethraliss made the Sethrak. IF she is in fact their creator.

I know in the poem/song I referenced before she is referred to as a mother. But this doesnā€™t necessarily mean a biological mother.

Hereā€™s another example/reference to eye damage/defects in snakes.

This seems to be another genetic one but not deliberately bred. This is sort of what Iā€™ve been looking for. When there is damage done to the eye in snakes, it often looks sunken in and odd.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/snakes/comments/9uws28/albino_boa_born_missing_an_eye/

I think a slightly sunken and discolored eye with a scar over it like this could be a good scarred face option for Sethrak.

Or ya know this. Just missing the entire eye. This was a wild snake too and seems to be in great health aside from the missing eye.

Fairly certain this is a European Grass Snake.

Seems like a good custom option idea if sethrak was ever made playable.

I also think Sethrak should get a play dead emote if they were made playable cause of how frequently it appears as a defense mechanism in snake species. Some even deliberately rupture small blood vessels to make it more convincing. Like the Grass snake is doing.

Rinkhals playing dead. This is a cousin to Cobras and hoods up just like one too.

I donā€™t mean this in a mean way but if they were to do this wouldnā€™t we have seen something in alpha?
Last we saw of anything sethrak was alpha BFA

Not necessarily. It is possible they have stuff hidden that we wonā€™t see until launch or a couple of patches in.

This is all speculation and just interest on the communityā€™s part.

If they make Sethrak playable, they make Sethrak playable. Theyā€™re a good contender as far as popularity goes. Lot of love for Sethrak, their design and their lore. And continued interest certainly would not hurt.

It has already been stated by Devs that AR donā€™t make sense for the launch of Shadowlands. But there is implications AR may make a return later in the expansion. Nothing confirmed. Just loosely implied.

hey im all for them but I cant help but seem them as a lost cause.

Like at my company they are entering the consultations that are a legal requirement to lay people off

From what ive heard its been decided already and there is no fighting it even though they are asking people to represent areas

I get it.

Iā€™ve been interested in playable Sethrak since their reveal at Blizzcon 2017. I kinda showed up late to the party as far as being vocal about it .

Iā€™m just a terribly stubborn and passionate person when it comes to the things I love and am interested in.

I am completely prepared to die on this hill. It happens. But I am still going to advocate for something I love!

Iā€™m still of the opinion that people should continue to show support of some kind for races they want playable, even if it may be awhile before we get new races of any sort. You never know if Blizzard may take it into future consideration or not, and there is plenty of room for new races on the new character creation screen.

Iā€™m still planning to support the races I want playable, and I hope others will do the same. Weā€™re in it for the long haul. :snake:

The Alpha hasnā€™t done the Night Fae area yet, which is most likely where weā€™d find some hints~

Ooo thatā€™s interesting!
