Unofficial Sethrak Discussion Thread 🐍

I forget who it was, but someone mentioned they had been datamined. So I did a little digging of my own. I checked WoWhead and that is where I found it. Under the PTR version. Just type in Sethrak, in the search bar. You get 5 “new” npc files for 8.3. They’re labeled as “Sethrak” or “Sethrak Combatant”. The Sethrak Combatant files seem to be entirely new for 8.3, as in there are no previous files from other patches of the same name.

No indication on their location based on what we can see on WoWhead so far. But the files are there and to me that’s really good news! I doubt the files got added for no reason.

And let us not forget Sethraliss! She’s died before and should have firsthand knowledge on some things going on in Shadowlands. And may have a strong tie to Ardenwald covenant.

Finally completed my “Vorrik’s Champion” achievement! Maybe with how much I’ve done for the Sethrak, I can talk them into joining a side. :snake:

Time for some celebratory snake themed music:

I just think all lizard men are an evil race, some could say that about goat people being associated with the devil as well.

I put a suggestion in the in game suggestion box to continue with her story in Shadowlands last night!

I think she has a LOT of potential to be a key (or atleast cool) factor in parts of the lore/story coming in Shadowlands.

Also, different note. I want to discuss dances again. Any further ideas?

We’ve talked about the Snake Dance from India as being a strong possibility.

There’s also the Hopi Snake Dance! If a trust level 3 could find a quality video to share, I’d appreciate it!

Sethrak are snake people not lizard people so no issue then.

“Historically, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin, they are a symbol of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing.

The ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and continual renewal of life.“

^ Paraphrased off Wikipedia cause I didn’t want to type it all out. Nothing evil about any of this. And Sethrak are not lizards. They lack several important features that lizards have. They are serpentine.

I am a walking snake encyclopedia. You will lose. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the only real negative story symbolically I’ve heard for snakes is the snake in eden… And Christianity took a lot of old symbols and made them darker or straight up evil to counteract those specific symbols and cultures.

Yup. They like to demonize perfectly good symbols and animals.

Snakes are terribly good for the environment as well. Without them we’d be ridden with rodent carried diseases and would not have certain medicines or treatments that we have today.

We have blood thinners based off snake venom.
Breast cancer treatments based off snake venom
Pain-killers based off snake venom.

Bottom line, snakes save lives.

It is tough to find since its taboo to record the dance apparently, It’s suppose to be a big secret!

A lot of the stuff back then was just poor education, a lot of the population was illiterate and relied on monks and other educated people to read and write. Science was in that special stage where bees were the smallest bird and they relied on fables to try to explain the world.

I actually really love reading the medieval bestiary just because of all the crazy “facts” they made.

When a snake grows old, it begins to lose its sight, which it can regain by eating fennel. To renew its youth, it fasts until its skin becomes loose, then it crawls through a narrow crack and sheds its old skin. When a snake goes to a river to drink, it spits its venom into a hole and retrieves it later. Snakes attack clothed men but flee from naked men. If a snake is attacked, it will protect its head. A snake that tastes the spit of a fasting man dies.

The snake is the enemy of the stag and the stork. The smoke from burning stag antlers is deadly to snakes.

The less funny part is a lot of these myths and silliness actually perpetuated a lot of hate and stigma on some animals, even to this day.

I bet we could get some fun silly or flirts out of these for Sethrak.

Someone on a different thread posted Summer and her friend from Rick and Morty dancing to Snake Jazz.

Think it would be funny if the Sethrak dances came from that.

Summer being the male dance
Her friend being the female dance.

Though the Hopi Snake Dance and India Snake Dance would be some nice culturally themed dances for them.

You are such a bizarre person.

And I just think you haven’t played warcraft in the last 15 years, where orcs, trolls, blood elves and goblins are described by blizzard as misfits who have teamed up against a world of adversity.
The Horde is brutal but the devs say it’s not bad.

No playable race is bad at warcraft. Therefore, lizard men would also not be an evil race.

So your argument is invalidated!

I’m not a huge fan of the show but Blizz does love pop culture!

I think some of you guys are overthinking this.

Playable Alliance Sethrak don’t need to have a new rep or achievement tied to them - remember Void Elves rep/achievement requirements have absolutely nothing to do with them.

The fact that the Horde also helped Sethrak does not mean they can’t be an Alliance race. Remember that almost all ARs from Legion received help from both the Horde and the Alliance and yet they went one way or the other.
