I received Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor as one of my birthday presents and looked through the Barrens section to see if there were any Saberon or Botani references. If you recall, a few of both races fled towards the Barrens when they came with us in BfA during the Magāhar unlock scenario.
No mentions of either, sadly, but I did read something interesting about Wailing Caverns. It is mentioned that the nightmare corruption still exists in there, having been sealed off for awhile.
An idea was presented earlier about the Botani taking residence in the Wailing Caverns and being up to no good. I thought of this idea when reading about the corruption being there and imagined what would happen if the Botani also got corrupted by it, especially knowing what all theyāve done back on AU Draenor. Not exactly a pleasant thought, is it?
Seems like it would make for an interesting storyline in-game. Especially getting the Saberon involved, as I doubt they and the Botani would play nice if both were trying to live in the Barrens. Sounds like a great way to introduce Saberon and lead them into becoming a playable race to me!
Iām not sure realistically what would be done with Saberon and Botani, though I hope that little plot point isnāt forgotten. It seems like there is potential to work with it and have something cool to be a part of in-game. Especially if it did lead to playable Saberon.

The Nightmare corruption still being there combined with the botani is fascinating to me.
Imagine the Botani. Previously servants of the Overgrowth on Draenor now separated from it here on Azeroth finding this place steeped in the powers of the Nightmare. Its desire to consume the natural world.
This just makes me even more want the Botani to become a threat there and to see a revamped Wailing Caverns.
Having the Botani become a nuisance across the barrens and the Saberon get involved with the Horde to defend their new home from an old enemy would be a wonderful way to bring them into the fold as well.

It seems like there is more and more really good reasons to have Botani as a huge threat in the area that should be dealt with.
As I speculated before, I think that the whole Saberon and Botani running to the Barrens thing might have been leading into obstacles in an alleged Barrens warfront. However, with that dropped, it seems like it opens an opportunity to do some cool things with them both.
Iām sure there are plenty of areas for the Saberon to reside in the Barrens, and itās very likely that they would eventually cross paths with the Botani at some point. It sounds like a good way to have the Saberon open to working with the Horde to take care of the nightmare threat (a nightmare in more ways than one) and have them both heal the land afterwards.
Iām hoping that the plot point of Saberon and Botani in the Barrens isnāt forgotten. I also hope it isnāt just Saberon being treated as quest jobbers either. Iām hoping to see them get fleshed out and become something more than that, preferably as a playable race.
As I said before, Iām not against something being done to have Botani playable in some way, though I still see them more as antagonists. Not to mention that I feel like Arakkoa would work better and have more meaning as an Alliance race. In a way, maybe the nightmare in the Wailing Caverns would give a faction of Botani reason to see the true meaning of Winter Veil or something. However, itās just something I donāt personally see. Not impossible, of course.
Guess weāll see what direction we head in the next expansion. I still recall seeing rumors of old world revamps, so maybe this is something weāll see sometime in the future if they ever do revamps of the old world in some way.

So while doing some dungeon farming, I came across a VHS tape in a hidden chest with the word āSaberon Unlock Datamineā on it. Not sure why someone would put a VHS tape in a chest, but I managed to snag it and get out of the dungeon.
Turns out itās a bit of pre-alpha footage of the Saberon unlock quest. Apparently, it involves a really important item you need in order to make sure the capital city is kept clean and orderly with Saberon around. Looks like a really important item too.

I really want them to take over the ruins of Baelādur. I dont know if thatās the right name but the place where the dwarves used to be.
Itād be defensible its been blown up a bit so I could see them making a good pride land out of it and the area around it.

They are mooks right now but they could be a lot more.
Yeah I should say that I have no hate for folk who want Botani and Iād totally make one if they became playableā¦ but I just really like the story of them taking the Wailing Caverns.

As I said, Iām not against playable Botani at all. I mean, many races that are currently playable use to be enemy mooks that got written to work well joining their respective faction. And some good candidates for playable race status, like Kelfin, were once mooks obsessed with treasure with the depth of a rain drop on concrete.
Itās entirely possible something could be written to have some Botani that arenāt low on moral fiber, but I do think the concept of evil Botani taking over Wailing Caverns and getting corrupted by the nightmare within is a really interesting storyline. Moreso if Saberon were involved and helped out, becoming playable as well. I imagine in such a scenario, Saberon would go Horde and maybe Botani go to Alliance. It could work.
I see a few people mention wanting playable Botani here and there, so they do have some fans. I just personally see them more as an antagonist role than a playable race, but that is just my own personal opinion. Iām not against them by any means.
I do think they could have some interesting bosses in a new Botani themed Wailing Caverns dungeon. Many plant based enemies, infested hosts of former living beings and beasts (various Horde members and other denizens of the Barrens), and other nightmare fueled bosses. Imagine if a Saberon hero sacrificed themself to save their tribe against the Botani, only to find that they are alive but being controlled and infested, and you have to put them down to save them. Stuff like that would really be memorable for the dungeon.
Anyway, as long as we got playable Saberon out of it, Iād be perfectly fine with playable Botani.

WOuld you want lion or tiger style saberons???
I imagine playable Saberon would have different types of fur patterns based on various RL wild cats, which would be the best IMO. Lots of potential customization options with that!
As for the type I want to make my characters, Iād go with an orange tiger stripe Saberon. Tigers are a neat animal and is what I based my male Vah Shir/Kerran character from Everquest 1 and 2 on. I might consider a white tiger pattern if I made a female Saberon character also.

Leopard fur patterns would also be really neat, as well as cheetah ones.
The cool thing with all the different potential fur patterns is that Saberon players could look really unique, even with armor on. Seeing one Saberon as a tiger while having another as a Panther is a cool thought. Itād be neat to see a playable race where you can see what the player personally picked out.

I honestly donāt know what I would use for my Saberon charactersā mounts. I usually donāt determine that until a race becomes playable and I see what I have or if there is a mount I can get that would go with those characters. If weāre lucky to ever get playable Saberon, Iāll have to play around with my options.
Also, weāre one week away from the next expansionās announcement! While Iām tempering expectations, I do keep hope to see a better setting. As well as see some new playable races people have been requesting, with some on my wishlist of course. Preferably with more character slots per account, since Iām dangerously close to the cap.
If I see anything of particular interest to Saberon, Iāll be sure to report it here. Not sure what the chances are of them being involved in a potential Dragonflight themed expansion, but you never know.

I, for most races, go with the racial mounts until I can play em through a bit and see what sticks to their stories.
I think Saberon mounts given where they now could be things like maybe a Lion? Since theyāre in the barrens, though theyāre a prime candidate for the worgen running wild ability.
