Since we’re putting unobtainable challenge rewards in BMAH, let’s start adding others such as original MT transmogs, e.g. “Replica” cosmetics. I do like the direction of putting unobtainable FOMO items back in the game for everyone to get a chance.

@devs: just throw out a surprise “YOLO” hotfix to celebrate the 17th anniversary and Christmas season, allow us to earn the original Mage Tower skins, just open it up boys

If lying means going back on their word to keep things exclusive then yes.
It’s a win win. I get to obtain cool stuff I didn’t have before and I get to watch people with ego issues cry on the forums about it.

I personally do not feel that Blizzard has lied to me however I can understand why some players feel as though Blizzard has.
That said, the act of lying is either always wrong or always okay. There shouldn’t be instances where it is okay just cause it benefits the desires of a player and other times not okay when it does not benefit the desires of the player.
This was already on the BMAH in unopened boxes, they are just adding it for direct bidding now.
Also, this wasn’t really a FOMO reward as anyone in a guild that had the achievement could buy the pet with the right rep. You didn’t have to actually do the CMs. You could join any big guild on basically any server and get this pet, it’s not like it was actually rare or any sort of sought after reward.

Lying, by definition, requires an intent to deceive. If they change their mind later on about something, that isn’t lying. They aren’t going to get sued over false advertisement for something like this. They can do what they want to their game, for the most part.

I mean, considering there is a serious issue with them getting, and retaining players currently, yes, yes they should bring back the FOMO stuff for every one to get a chance at…with a caveat, it shouldn’t be from the PRIOR expac, so the FOMO stuff from b4a should still say that way but Legion or older should be reinstated.
This does to things, allows players to still have their special things, but also, removes discouraging time barriers from the ‘new leveling experience’ for players just now joining the game, not to mention, it also give players more things to do in the expac of 10 billion time gates (daily/weekly time gates is really, really bad this time around)
It was removed from guild vendors in 6.0. It hasn’t been available to even those guilds since.
Technically, none of it would be lying at all even if they brought back the stuff in another format.

It was added to unopened boxes as soon as it was removed from guild vendors, so it was never really gone. Even still, it doesn’t compare to any other rewards you are probably salivating over. You didn’t have to personally accomplish anything for this reward, other people in a guild could do it and then you could buy it with 0 involvement. Nowhere in the same world as actual CM rewards, MT rewards or PvP elite stuff.
I think the thing Bluster’s pointing out is that the pet wasn’t really as prestigious as the usual “FOMO” fare. If you wanted the armor sets, the weapon set, or the mage tower appearances, you had to go get them (or at least pay through the nose for them, if you found people good enough to carry). For the pet you just needed to be in the same virtual room that a decent group of people were in at one point.

Did they say limited time or one time only? Because limited time availability in the retail world does not necessarily mean one time only.

The time-limited McRib always comes back, it’s just not available every day. People seem to equate time-limited with one-time only for some strange reason.

Loverocket and headless horseman mount should be added to BMAH at least.
This game is full of FOMO items and low drops when other games approach player base using a straight forward reward system, if they add something on a seasonal event you can get it by playing the game, this kind of philosophy on devs wont bring new players, if you want to collect some items you need an army of alts for example.
Hopefully, someone at the next community council brings these kind of topics.
