I disagree. It’s completely third party and will insignificantly affect the game at best. I argue it’d be more beneficial than not looking at the game AFTER the hype dies and no one new joins.
What retailers? The ones quitting over removing portals to increase time played metrics? Ha GD was lit up over it. Whatcha think the threads will look like locking tmogs on retail behind the level 60 grind in classic?
GD is having a fit because the devs took out a number of portals. You think the majority of transmog hunters would put up with 240 hours of leveling, 40 levels of no mounts, 60 levels of CC in dungeons, few graveyards, merciless PvP, rank grinds, learning how to play all over again, getting into a raiding guild that isn’t turds, and getting all the way to Naxx just for some transmogs?
Furthermore, no sane guild is going to let you just loot that Corrupted Ashbringer because you want it for your collection. No Atiesh unless you play druid/mage/warlock/priest. No Black Resonating Crystal unless you get there first.
let’s see. how does it negatively impact the community? we have to worry about why people are playing classic. we have to worry about if someone is going to leave after getting benediction/mount/t3/etc.
drastically increase turnaround - oh that tank that just got his full t3? he was only here for that. instead of helping the rest of the guild get geared up he’s gonna bail and go back to retail.
and sowing mistrust? again. i have to worry about why each and every player is in my dungeon group and guild.
furthermore, just the fact that it is having a negative impact on the classic community is all the reason you need to say NO.
Classic is a game all about community. to put something in that has a negative impact on that is just no.
So I read the first 30 or so posts, saw all the linked blue posts directly and explicitly shooting the OP’s idea down and assumed to myself “well good that should shut this thread down”. Then I looked at the total post number. Is there any reason to read the ~70 posts I skipped? Lots of productive and reasonable discourse happening I assume?
1.) You still haven’t said why
2.) Turnaround is better than a dead community
3.) Vanilla did have a mistrustful community, it was the high time of ganking, loot stealing and griefing
Yes, just as any video game eventually dies. Just as anything eventually dies. Let it run its course. Trying to keep it alive with new features or content beyond the scope of vanilla is contradictory to the purpose of the project; plain and simple.
it’s simple - i have to worry about a persons motivations. is this person going to ninja my items? etc.
tens of thousands of people playing private servers for 10 years. and no. they don’t just play them because they are free. they play them because classic is a legitimately good game. now imagine how many people classic will have with servers where you don’t have to worry about losing your progress, with the backing of an official company.
no, vanilla had a self policing community. ganking and griefing is a common part of the MMO experience and expected. as is loot stealing, however you take actions to mitigate that. that said people developed reputations in vanilla and that lead to community. you knew who people were because you ran into them all the time. just because you were mistrustful of people in vanilla loot stealing is not a reason to add MORE REASONS to be mistrustful.
your logic is so out in left field.
by your logic people are going to steal stuff so i should open my doors and post a sign telling them too.
