Unlocking Chromie Time

Can a new player unlock Chromie Time with an evoker pretty fast?
Idk much about how it unlocks other then requiring a 60

Leveling Experience for New Players

There are no substantial changes to the leveling experience for a brand-new WoW player, or a player on a new account. The first character on an account must complete 1-10 on Exile’s Reach, and 10-60 (was 10-50) in Battle for Azeroth zones Zandalar and Kul Tiras.

Reaching level 60 on one character will open the Chromie Time option for any other characters on that account. This used to have an upper level limit of 50, not 60.

  • Chromie Time spans levels 10-60 (was 10-50). “The Realms Of Death” (Shadowlands) will be available as an option. Threads of Fate can no longer be selected as a leveling option in Shadowlands.*

  • You will need to have have at least one character on your account that has reached level 60 to unlock Chromie Time (was level 50).

*Level 60 characters who have leveled through another way without ever having been through Shadowlands, such as Evokers, will be presented with an option to go straight to Covenant choice with the quest Re-Introductions when they arrive through the Oribos portal.

Evoker Leveling Experience

The new Evoker class will start life at level 58 in their own dedicated new zone, Forbidden Reach. Like Death Knights and Demon Hunters, these class-related newbie areas must be completed in full before leaving the island. You don’t have an option to level up anywhere else.

(wowhead)

New players/accounts can simply do a class trial to create a lvl 60(w/o paying for a boost to unlock it completely) which in effect meets those requires and allows said player to go straight into chromie time without doing any thing else.

I’ve played since Vanilla and somehow unlocked Chrommie. My wife has played for a year, and has four level 60+. One is a hunter that went from 1 to 64, but only partially completed BFA. One is a priest that used a leveling token to get to 60. The other two are evokers, level 60 and 62.

Chrommie wasn’t unlocked for alts, so she made a class trial. However, Chrommie stayed locked.

Any guesses as to how she can unlock Chrommie? Very frustrating that she can’t Timewalk with me.

I’m guessing has to be through Shadowlands to get to Oribos with an evoker (based on the previous post although I’m not certain this is the right path)…which I think means wasting time getting through the first Shadowlands zone that will be only 50-52? with a level 60+ evoker. It will go fast, but the next question is why does Blizzard have us jump through such bizarre hoops sometimes?

It should be unlocked for her. It’s based on level reached, not content done.

If she started the alts in Exile’s reach, but did not opt out of the tutorial by using the “I know my way around the city” dialog option when getting to Stormwind/Orgrimmar, then she’ll need complete the tutorial before the character will get access to Chromie Time. (Which means doing the BfA intro up through getting the Welcome to Zandalar/Come Sail Away achievement.)

Thanks Udiza. We don’t recall how each alt started out. So each alt needs to have the Welcome to Zandalar/Come Sail Away achievement? I never read this before but we can try.

However, my high mountain Tauren (who started at level 10) and has never been to Zandalar as I recall anyway, can Timewalk. Does this even make sense then? Update: I did visit Zandalar and just forgot. :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s so much outdated and conflicted information out on the web. It’s very disheartening that Blizzard doesn’t keep an updated page somewhere for their bizarre Timewalking rules.

Thanks though.

Yes, it basically a way to funnel new players into BfA, which they’ve decided is the preferred leveling experience, so the tutorial locks out other options. (While I haven’t checked recently, I know the tutorial used to lock you out of the Hero’s Call/Warchief’s Command boards as well.)

When you get to the main city after doing Exile’s Reach, the NPC will have a dialog option that says “I know my way around the city*.” That ends the tutorial and then you don’t have to do the BfA intro**. If you don’t opt out, then you need to complete the tutorial (which ends at the Come Sail Away/Welcome to Zandalar achievement)***.

*This dialog option is only available if you’ve taken a character all they way through the tutorial at least once. If your character had a choice between Exile’s Reach and their racial starting zone, this will be unlocked.

** The BfA intro can cause all sorts of phasing issues in Stormwind/Orgrimmar, so my preference is to just do the whole tutorial to avoid any annoyances later. Plus it opens up a useful portal.

*** I’ve see some people say that doing stuff like running right out of the city can also cause the tutorial to end (and unlock stuff like Chromie Time.) I don’t have nearly enough info to make any definitive statements on other ways out of the tutorial, but just know that there are probably other things you can do besides the dialog option that will kick your out of the tutorial mode.

Your Highmountain Tauren didn’t start in Exile’s Reach. It’s specifically an issue with the tutorial mode that starts in Exile’s Reach.

Thanks again. I did an experiment on my old level 15 troll warrior. He is also locked out of Timewalking. Chromie says: “You’ll need to become more familiar with the present before you can visit the past. Maybe I can send you back once you’ve toured the city and met with the warchief!”

However, this character has the “Welcome to Zandalar” achievement and has completed the “Speaker for the Horde” quest and still can’t Timewalk.

I’ve played since vanilla. I have four level 60+ and numerous alts. Two are dracathyr and the other two have leveled from 1 to 60+.

From the Chromie dialog, it sounds like the game doesn’t think you completed the tutorial on the character. Which means something went sideways if you’ve got the Welcome to Zandalar achievement. The only think I can think of is to check Orgrimmar (and your quest log) to see if you have any quests from the tutorial available to complete. You can also try just running out of Orgrimmar into Durotar to see if that fixes stuff.

Thanks much for your help, Udiza. :grinning: Based on the Add-On Quest Completist, all the intro quests are complete. I tried walking out to Durotar and back to no avail.

I found a thread in “Bug Reports” from last October with a similar problem. It has gone unanswered. :frowning:

At this point, it’s probably worth putting in a ticket. There may be a chance there’s some flag on the character that a GM can fix.

It’s also probably worth adding to the thread in the bug report forum so they know it’s still an issue for some characters.
