Undermine feels like getting a monkey paw wish granted

You dont seem to know what a Mary Sue is.

And this sorta writing has been in WoW since launch.

I honestly don’t get the hate for her. She was written well and isn’t just a gloomy ahole light zealot like people thought she would be.

I mean, I know there are “reasons” some dark corner of the fandom doesn’t like her but I tend to ignore them because they hate anything that doesn’t fit their own preconceived thoughts.

But calling her a Mary Sue is not something I heard people say.

Apparently a Mary Sue is any woman that’s competent.

I suppose I didn’t like the way she did it. Like she has it all together. A little humility would help. Even an older more experienced guy wouldn’t pretend to have everything figured out.

Typical Mary Sue. Even if she has flaws, they are either inconsequential or she has “overcome” them and they aren’t a problem anymore. Perfect and without fault.

I guess losing people and parts of yourself and picking yourself up is considered Mary sue these days.

? She literally states she doesn’t have it all together and she is taking it one day at a time and trying to keep the flame burning inside her.

And yes, she does have humility to the point she gets super excited of things outside her preconceived world view of the empire. She doesn’t believe the empire is be all for all or the dark powers some of us wield is totally something to hate.

And she did have things to overcome. We just saw the version of her finishing that process. She talks about learning how to do everything with one arm and constantly redoing her equipment to be better in the field.

Do you not understand us goblins want to kill him and have wanted to kill Gallywix for a long long time?

Man, losing an arm sure is confident and overpowered.

Problem is, it doesn’t seem that way. I don’t know if it was the VA’s fault. The way the dialogue is written.

Literally a case of tell but don’t show. You never see her struggle much. You never see her down for long. If she is down she rebounds effortlessly.

Yes, because she’s a pro now. We don’t need to see the journey to understand she had one.

It’s like in starship troopers when the teacher pops up as the commander. We don’t need to know all his past to understand he’s a fighter.

Same with Faerin, we see what she went through physically. We know she’s been fighting for a long time so she has experience and we also know she lost people and how she studied and learn to be hand while crippled.

We just don’t need to see every step of it. And it is a nice juxtaposition that not every war veteran needs to be a gritty gloomy person. Especially one wielding the light. Positive attitude is one of the defining traits of the light.

Dude, just admit it’s about women. Nobody buys this.

Illidan will be coming back in The Last Titan.

Rising Sargaras as a mount.

Actually we do. For a seasoned pro she shows very little signs of the trauma and stress she went through.

This is the biggest problems with Mary Sues, they aren’t allowed to show vulnerability. It’s also why they are completely unrelatable.

She literally does though. There is a whole questline of us helping her grieve. I mean, she places a brave face but she internalizes stuff, which is why her commanding officers asks us and anduin to help her out.

We see the physical trauma she went through all the time, with her missing arm and shield. We see her emotional trauma through side questing and her talking about her family, her injuries, the people dying around her. But she is also stable enough to process it in a healthy way but she still processes it.

Nothing Mary Sue about her at all.

It’s not coming through on my end, I’m afraid to say. As you mentioned, a lot of people don’t like her so I’m not the only one Blizzard has failed to convince.

Well the people who don’t like her, and I mean really don’t like her, is because she’s a black women.

They also ignore all her story beats so I don’t listen to them.

But for you, I guess the bubble personality just doesn’t hit, which is okay.

The amount of design and heart put into Undermined, it almost feels like a mini xpac, an xpac within and xpac.

Just grinds my gears to have all this awesome lore, tech, style/flavor/aesthetic, and no tech class. We’re just a bunch of bumbling simpletons compared to what these goblins are crafting and engineering.

Wish my player character could be that cool, could fit into a world like Undermine.

I’ll kill for a tinker class! So many guns not in use in my collection because I dislike hunter class.

I both agree and disagree. What often stories get wrong about exploring motivations is that they take an easy way out about doing so. Gallywix doesn’t need a sob story like his mom didn’t give him enough hugs, necessarily.

Gallywix is the way he is because of goblin society. He’s a product of it. Gallywix is a goblin’s goblin doing goblin things. Obviously the Bilgewater cartel are not going to like him, but it isn’t for any real moral reasons. Just circumstantial ones.
