Undeleting character with same name

I have a character that I want to undelete, but she has the same name as the main I am playing.

Am I just out of luck?

No, I will not purchase a name change for my main.

So I’m out of luck.

It will almost always force you into a name change. Sometimes that will not work and then you have to delete the new toon that you made just to force the other toon into a name change. When you try to restore it, it will usually force you into a name change. But now recently it sometimes does not so get a friend to take the name for you if you really want to go to all this effort to save 10 dollars. Or you can move it to new server and have both toons same guild using the CRZ guild stuff and one has a server name over its name.

Only way to save the name on both is to move one over to a different server.

Yes. Because people were gaming the system in this fashion so that they wouldn’t have to purchase name changes. They closed that loophole long ago.

There used to be a way to work with the GMs to change the name of the deleted character. Meaning you buy a name change (or have enough Blizzard Balance to cover the cost of the service + applicable taxes), submit a ticket and the GMs will help get the deleted character renamed so that you can then undelete it. Trying to dredge up the article about this and will add when I find it.

It’s not offering a name change to me.

Why would deleting the current toon force a name change for the deleted one?

I’m on the only good server in WoW. Lots of chat going on in Trade and LFG. Makes the world seem alive.

I can understand that. Pity.

Maybe the CS GM will see this thread and take pity on me. lol

There are no GMs on this forum, I’m afraid. Our SFAs have no hand in any of that, and they are the only Blues you see posting on the forum.

At least it’s not a player who has the name you desire and that player hasn’t logged on in forever.

Okay, so this would kinda sorta fall under the “name swap” rules. You would have to have the full amount of the name change service available in your Blizzard Balance (the service plus any taxes imposed by your country/state/province).

Submit a ticket by going here once you’ve got that available: https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/product/wow/166/180/solution

Then explain you want to rename the DELETED CHARACTER (please emphasize that part just to avoid any misunderstandings), and that you authorize for them to use the available Blizzard Balance to purchase the name change service.

Which is not the issue and has no bearing on the OP’s thread - so this is irrelevant? If you take issue with how Blizzard releases their names (or that they don’t), that belongs over in General Discussion or through the in-game suggestion and feedback interface.

That’s for live characters. But I can see Blizz applying to to deleted ones as well.

I know, that’s why I mentioned: “kinda sorta.” There isn’t an article specific to your specific situation, but that’s the closest thing to it. And I went back into the history of other instances like yours to double check myself, and that is how players have been told to do things.

Now, it has actually been several months since anyone brought the issue here, so if one of our Blues pop in and corrects me? That is it’s own thing and I’ll be bookmarking their ‘say-so’ for the next time this comes about. But the method I offered has been suggested and worked in past cases since they closed the loophole on people taking advantage of the free name change.

I’m disappointed, but there it is it seems.

People used to do this all the time for a name change, More so when going to a new server. I know I did it a number of times when they let it happen.

Make a level 1 with your old name on the new server and then it would prompt you to change your name,

They aren’t swapping servers. They are restoring a deleted character.

I know that and people did that back in the day to get a free name change as well. Delete your character. Make a new one with the same name and then restore the deleted one and it would let you change the name.

Does that still work?

No it does not, you would need to pay for a name change. But if someone on a different unconnected account has the same name I do not think it will force you to buy a paid name change.
