This just hit me for nearly 24 hours. Every few hours I’ve logged out and back in, and I’m finally back.
Glad to hear it, Vralok. It seems to come and go for many and right now just checking back every so often to see if it has cleared up is the only troubleshooting we have.
The overall issue is being worked on but as I understand it the issue is part of a larger one that is being worked on. I don’t have an ETA on when this will be fully resolved, but we are keeping an eye on it. If I receive any news I will pass it along.
I didn’t even see this thread until I was having the issue…at which point I couldn’t post.
Now I just have to wait for my guild tabard to show up. That has nothing to do with this since it’s showing blank in the armory too. I’ve only been in the guild a couple days now so it’s probably related to that (most of the people in my last guild were also in another guild, and they just consolidated). Armory always seems to take time to update, at least it’s showing the right guild name now.
It just happened to me today. I logged out so it would refresh my ability to post. I was out of game time for a little while. when I logged back in. No posting or anything lol. it was a little frustrating.
I’m sure blizz will get it fixed soon enough. But I have to admit. It is still frustration.
Thank you for keeping us updated Vrak, It truly is appreciated
I just wanted to say checking my parental controls also fixed my issue. For some reason, mine had been enabled - which I’ve never touched - and it had disabled forum posting.
I turned forum posting back on, logged into forums and all my characters were there.
Good call, Keonia.
Usually those who have Forum Access disabled in their Parental Controls see the same message. With all of this going on, it might be easy to overlook and assume you were hit with this bug when you just have to update those.
I’m thinking my Dracthyr race change might of messed up my end of the forums.
I deleted a evoker and raced changed one of my mages to Dracthyr using the same name-server from the evoker I deleted.
PC: When I discovered the issue in the beginning I logged out and back again only to have a W btag show with missing characters.
Today I only have one character showing that I never post on, and none of my other characters are appearing. Yes, logged out and then in no new results.
Phone App: Yesterday I only can post on this character with no other characters showing other then the btag W.
Today I see my characters and unable to select any of them.
I’m afraid to log out and back in not being able to post at all and might jinx myself.
Going to loose tl3 on the character I post often, because I can’t switch.
I would certainly have to agree with you, I would hate for people to think that the problems were related. I checked my parental controls after reading Brillynn’s post. At the time, I was hoping to find any form of resolution to the problem. My Parental Controls were just fine personally.
So it would just seem that it was a bug that eventually resolved it self. At least from my end. No amount and clearing cookies and cache, switching browsers or even changing devices was working for me.
This also happened to me for a short time, perhaps three to four hours, I can not recall the exact time frame. But after a while of logging out and back in, the rest of my characters returned.
As I mentioned before in a different post here, I fully understand that this can be frustrating, but it does seem to resolve it self. With any luck, the team at Blizz or the team that actually handles the back end of the forums (Discourse I believe) will solve this issue for anyone experiencing it.
I’m having issues with this on my side as well. When the new patch came out I was able to instantly swap my warrior from NE to Dracthyr without any issues. I had to immediately go and raid so I didn’t have the option of switching my warlock at the time. After raid I attempted to swap over my warlock and was “able” to, however the character sat pending for over a day. I attempted to log into the character, and in doing so it reset the faction swap.
While I’ve had that issue before, going and redoing the changes worked and I was able to play the character almost instantly… in the past. This round I attempted to swap the character and nothing happened. I encountered a banner that said “Could not change race for character.” This has now been a recurring banner in my face for 5 days now. I cannot remove the faction change from my warlock. I do not want her to be any other faction besides Dracthyr. And she is stuck in limbo.
I can log in, but don’t have any will to place the character till she is a dracthyr.
I obviously can’t do anything at the moment except to confront Blizzard about this issue, I just hope it is fixed soon.
Everything seems normal for me for now. Although during my testing I logged out on this laptop as well, and forgot to log it back in until I was at work this morning, and it took a couple more log outs to get my character to show. It LOOKS like it’s good now.
I checked my parental controls and they are definitely not on.
Hey all,
We’ve received word back that some fixes went in and services restarted so the issue should hopefully be cleared up. They believe that there are still some outstanding issues that they are still working on, but for now, folks should be able to post again.
With that said, it is still considered to be in retest, so please do so. Obviously, if you are currently unable to post you cannot post an update, but the issue comes and goes, so definitely check back.
We are asking for everyone who may experience this to do some standard troubleshooting.
- Log out and in a few times.
- Try using a private browser/incognito mode
- Clear your browser’s cookies/cache
- Check your parental controls settings to make sure you have posting enabled.
- Make sure you are in the correct region. US/North American WoW licenses can only post on these forums, European WoW licenses can only post in EU.
This was JUST affecting me, seems to be back now though!
It’s working now for me.
Is there any plans to create an option for tickets to specifically say its a ticket for forum issues? It kinda stunk not being able to select a character so I couldn’t post on the support forum and theres no ticket option for “forum issues”
Technically, there is an option under Account > Can’t post on forums.
However, this is really a technical issue that our engineers would be handling. Unfortunately, there is little our support staff can do outside of providing some troubleshooting options.
I have this problem and cannot post on the forum on my PC. I can however, as seen here post using the Battle.net phone app. I figured that knowing that there is a difference.
Hmm, am however defaulted to the wrong character. I try to fix that.
Nope, I cannot change forum character on the phone app. Actually playing the game are uneffected.
I just logged out, and in again on the PC. For now problem appears to be fixed.
Logging out and back in today I finally got a list of my characters and am now finally able to post, lol. I’m having the same issue.
Logged out and logged back in without issues. So that’s always a good thing.
Hey all,
Just wanted pop in and see what is happening. I haven’t really seen many reports recently on this so I’m not sure if folks are good now or they are just getting stuck not being able to select a character.
If you did have the issue and any of the troubleshooting steps above helped, please let me know.
Listing them again for convenience:

This is the only one that I personally can say may have worked for me. Although to be fair it may have fixed the issue or time it self may have resolved the issue.
Either way none of the other troubleshooting steps were applicable to my situation.
Thank you again Vrak for trying your best to keep people updated on the situation.
I haven’t been able to post on any WoW forum since the Tuesday Oct. 22 maintenance. Always “told You need a level 10 character to post on the forums”. As I haven’t been banned, have several 80’s and an active account, something was obviously wrong. Ticket response was the usual “we are aware of the issue” and “developers are working to resolve it”.
This forum thread today kind of resolves it for me. Using suggestions from some responses, switched from Edge to Google and I’m now allowed to post again.
A big frustration with not being able to post on forums was that I couldn’t find out if others having the same problem – they couldn’t post either.
UPDATE: Shortly after posting this message, got a notification from Google … “Google system Account no longer on hold”. Of course I have no idea what that means, assume it’s connected.
