I recently returned to WoW after a long hiatus and with the pushback of the Shadowlands date decided to unlock the Alliance races; specifically the Void Elves which currently requires the “You are Now Prepared” achievement.
At this point I am unable to return to Argus to resume the questline. The beacon to the Vindicaar is not present in Dalaran. Looking through your support site, it is recommended to locate Vereesa Windrunner at the Stormwind docks but she is not present.
I suspect that I’m in some phased version of the docks because the only boats in the area where Vereesa should be belong to the Darkspear Trolls.
I submitted a ticket in game but got the stock “we can’t help you with quests”. It has been an extremely frustrating experience thus far. Any help?
It has been a while since I’ve done this quest chain but I recall there being a bit of confusion as well. I guess my first recommendation would be to check your quest log and see if you have any quests in the harbor that might cause you to be in a different phase. Maybe do the same for Dalaran, as it’s possible the beacon could be phased?
We really can’t give game hints, Cidoc - but if you are truly lost, I’d put in a ticket.
Sometimes phasing can be an issue. Normally you go back to the last step in a dropped chain and can pick it up. There are also quests that traverse various areas - even zones, so it may not be in that local area.
Appreciate the response, Orlyia - but I’ve done my research. In order to go back to the last step I have to go to Argus. I don’t have the means to return to Argus currently.
The transition to Argus has obviously been an issue in the past because Blizzard has a few articles covering the topic. Unfortunately none of the proposed solutions that address your bugs work for me.
I do have a case open and hope that I don’t get a canned response again from the in-game help.
Did you talk to Chromie to actually switch to Legion, or did you just travel there with the Dalaran hearthstone? I noticed things get a bit wonky at the moment if you don’t actually switch expansions through Chromie before traveling to a different continent.
Hi Juani - I didn’t realize that was something that could be done. Certainly something worth trying. Where can I find Chromie and which expansion should I switch to? I assume Legion?
Chromie doesn’t offer the options for a max level (50) character. She’s in the location noted in the article and is clickable but only provides a canned line with no option of choosing an expansion.
Visiting Chromie with a non-max level character does provide the menu.
So after continued testing I finally figured out how to return to Argus. It comes down to (what I would consider) sloppy phasing, or at a minimum, poor messaging to players about how to return to the “proper” Dalaran to access Argus.
For those that find themselves in the same position it’s important to know that there are 2 different Dalaran (phases). If you take the portal from Stormwind to Dalaran then you enter a Dalaran that doesn’t have access to the Lightforged beacon. If you use the Dalaran hearthstone then you’ll be in the Dalaran that contains the Lightforge Beacon that will take you to the Vindicaar.
Ah yes, if you notice, the Portal in the Mage Tower says Portal to Dalaran, Crystalsong Forest, which is the version of Dalaran for Wrath of the Lich King.
The Dalaran you wanted would be the version in the Broken Isles.
As someone who hasn’t played in quite some time the differentiation (Crystal Song/Broken Isles) is lost on me. Clearer messaging would likely be appreciated by other players like me.
I’m a little disappointed that this wasn’t pointed out initially via the in-game ticket.
That isn’t really something a Game Master would be able to provide as it is considered a game hint. Part of playing the game is discovering how the world works. Sorry if it was a bit confusing for you.
Given how few people are aware of the fact (in game, on the forums, on reddit) it feels less like a ‘game hint’ and more like an esoteric quirk to the phasing system.
Moreover it’s frustrating and simply not fun.
Can you point to an NPC in game that I could have spoken to that would have allowed me to ‘discover’ this solution?
I believe the hints would be in reading the quests or paying attention to the information that was provided to you, and possibly looking things up, on a site such as Wowhead.
Part of the enjoyment I personally get out of games such as WoW, is figuring out puzzles of where to go for previous expansions or content. It’s not always clear what to do/where to go and it makes you have to think a bit, to get the task done.
I in no way want you to feel that I am dismissing your frustration, Cidoc, I would not do that. I was originally only mentioning the difference between the two locations for future reference.
To answer your question though, there isn’t a single NPC that would provide you with that information. That is something you learn as you play the game.
For example, if you quested to unlock access to Argus that means that you did the introduction into Legion. Since you had to have completed the introduction questline on at least one of your characters, you should have witnessed the floating city of Dalaran being transported from Deadwind Pass to the Broken Isles. There is a cinematic in-game.
Now, it is entirely possible that you may not have noted that Crystalsong Forest was a descriptive element intended to indicate that it was different from the Broken Isles. That is understandable confusion, especially if you were not familiar with the previous content.
However, from what I can see in your achievement history, you should be. It does seem that you completed Loremaster of Northrend when the Wraith of the Lich King expansion was active, which meant you were questing in Dalaran when it was in Crystalsong Forest. You also appear to have completed the Loremaster from Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, and Legion, all seemingly while those expansions were the current content.
Everyone games differently though, so keeping track of the story, lore and events that happened isn’t necessarily high on everyone’s list, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t otherwise available to those who care to look.
In any case, if you feel that a larger distinction should be made between the two locations I’d recommend using the Submit a Suggestion option located in the in-game help menu so our developers can take it into consideration.
I have the exact same problem as Cidoc, except that the Lightforged Beacon does not appear for me, even though I am in the Legion version of Dalaran. Vereesa is also nowhere to be found at the Stormwind docks. I’ve submitted a ticket but so far no response.
Found a workaround. I did several of the quests that Khadgar was offering, after which he gave me “The Hand of Fate” quest, which led to everything else I needed.
