Unable to renew subscription + Live Chat/Callback is greyed out during business hours

Not cool Blizz. That’s 3 failures in one. My account has a few hours left on it so hopefully you’ll get your stuff together in time to help me make it to raid tonight. This is the error I get when renewing my account:

"##### Heads up!

Something went wrong. Select another payment method or try again later."

I’ve tried turning off all ad-blocker/anti-popup protections and also using multiple browsers. This is on YOUR end. Fix it.

You could go to the Blizzard store and add game time from there, if you need time immediately.

I will try that and update this thread

Have you checked the method of payment you are using, Gravy? That is a fairly generic error which can mean the card you are using has expired, the CVV number is wrong, etc…

Thank you for the swift reply. My card in the system is expired and I removed that payment method. When I try to renew my account I select “add payment method” and that’s when it craps the bed."

Do you have any security programs active (other than the ad-blockers), or any overlays?

You mentioned trying other browsers. I have seen some folks have trouble with Firefox but were successful with Chrome. Is that an option for you?

I use edge primarily. ublockOrigin was disabled for dealing with your website along with edges own pop-up protection. Chrome is the herpes of the internet and I’d rather not if there’s other solutions. I did try firefox also and no dice.

edit: I don’t even make it to a point I can put a new card number in. It’s the screen asking you to select between paypal or credit/debit. I select credit/debit and get thrown the error.

edit#2: I think I know the solution now. Your system is to put it nicely… ‘Special.’ My account expires in 3 hours and I bet if I let it expire completely then try again it might not throw me an error. That also means I have to go tell everyone WHY I won’t make it tonight… because Blizzard is being well… Blizzard again.

Also Thundertotem’s suggestion didn’t work. It takes me to the same page that gives me error if I use the shop directly.

okay try this, instead of trying to input the info while at the store, go to you Account wallet and add the information there before you do anything else.

I’m guessing it worked.

Also, just to touch on the issue with Live Chat, if it’s grayed out during business hours, that generally means the queue for GM contact has hit the hard cap and you just need to try again later. It usually only takes ten minutes in those situations.

i routinely resubscribe with hours or minutes left until my sub expires and have never had an issue. this is virtually certainly related to either security software, your browser, or your internet connection. So troubleshooting it involves removing each of them as a problem as best you can. There are a lot of different ways to try troubleshooting this we could go over, but the simplest way to be sure it’s going to work is to use a different device on a different internet connection, like use your phone with its own connection. But you can always try a new browser on your computer, or run a selective startup, or tether your computer to your phone’s internet, etc etc.

After the frustration and issues, I decided to wait until my account fully expired before trying again. Still getting the same error:

" Heads up!

Something went wrong. Select another payment method or try again later."

This is when I try to select “credit or debit card” as a payment method. When I select “paypal” it works and I do not get the error. Either Blizzard’s third party credit vendor is down, or Blizzard needs to fix their website, or both.

Trying to add Blizzard Balance doesn’t work. Trying to add a new payment method doesn’t work. Trying to add a new subscription doesn’t work. They all time out and give me the error message. I put in multiple tickets a few hours ago and they are gone. I just made a new one now and it says pending.

My issue is not resolved.

Here’s the thing though…if it were really on Blizzard’s end, we would be seeing a lot more posts here about it. So far, it’s just your post.

That said, have you tried what Thundertotem suggested and try to add the payment method before you start the process to add a subscription?

Also, have you tried just purchasing a block of game time instead of a subscription?

Tickets don’t tend to just disappear unless you were using Live Chat and navigated away from the page. That’s the only way a ticket can be closed without an answer.

To be honest, I still highly suspect that something on your system is blocking the page from working properly. It could be security software, antivirus software, a firewall etc.

Wait on the ticket you have open and hopefully they can help you to troubleshoot the issue further.

I’m sorry, Gravy, but if that were the case we would be seeing a great many more reports. We simply are not. I’d recommend using the Live Chat option if you can, as it would probably be better to have a rep on the line to actively troubleshoot.

As Perl mentioned, tickets don’t simply disappear. Even if they are closed by us or abandoned by you, they would still show up. I only see one ticket on this account, which was opened about 20 minutes ago.

Hopefully we can help figure out what the issue is. I do highly recommend trying an alternate browser like Chrome. Folks having trouble with other browers have shown success using that one.

Phone Reply and Live Chat still greyed out with a line slash through them. My CURRENT ticket is sitting at 40 minutes unanswered.

edit: Sorry not using Chrome. Will never touch a google product. Your service should work on all platforms or be specific about which ones are excluded/required/currently not working.

EDIT#2: HOLY … it just worked. On a whim I decided to try again and it magically worked this time. Selected credit/debit and BAM instantly the Pay Now button was lit up instead of a red error.

I didn’t change browsers, or internet connections, or filters or anything. I didn’t try and access my account directly, or a workaround via the digital store. Here’s the ONE thing I did differently:

With my Battlenet launcher open, I clicked the little circle with a + symbol at the bottom next to where you select between wow retail and classic. That’s all. Now it’s letting me put in billing info and working. So basically it’s your links that are broken and I found one that still works. Better get your web admin on it PRONTO.

That’s good to hear, Gravy.

That isn’t necessarily true, as I said, this seems to be working for others but it is definitely something to keep an eye on.

All other times I tried manage account, or the digital store which routed me back to manage account. From the account screen I tried add payment, add balance, and add subscription. ALL OF THEM FAILED.

I’m guessing the little button at the bottom of the launcher (which is hard to notice in 4k resolution) skips those steps and cuts straight to the payment. Get someone to look at that and have a good evening. I am re-subscribed.

edit: GM Daerdrin should be fired form his canned answer and unwillingness to engage me via ticket. Instead I found the solution on my own after waiting over 50 minutes for a response. Vrakthris gets my thumbs up for being more prompt and helpful.

gm’s don’t message you in response to a ticket. that’s why live chat was recommended. a ticket response is going to start with basic troubleshooting. as you try their more basic advice, which will fix the widest variety of issues, they will give you more specific advice. but i imagine your ticket response probably gave a lot of similar advice that you got in this thread. that said, you should get a survey that you can respond to.

i feel like it needs to be re-iterated. nothing is broken. there aren’t 10 different broken links and you just found one the secret one that works. they all work and this is something that needs to be troubleshooted further in technical support if you have the issue again in the future as it is specific to your computer or internet connection.

"Hello there, ########!

Game Master ####### here, thanks for reaching out. I understand you’re running into some trouble setting up a subscription. I’d be happy to take a look into this for you."

His reply was ultra canned. Suggested I use a different browser, then closed and market the ticket as “Answered” before I could reply.

Ticket Number: US70127254

sorry, i said that poorly. what i meant was, it is not like you are chatting with them. you send them a ticket, they send a response. you can then hit not resolved typically although that isn’t always the case, but they aren’t sitting there waiting for you to add more, it goes back into a queue for another response.

they sent you that response because probably 95% of the time this happens its just a browser problem. if that didn’t fix it you’d have to then ask for further help to try other things, like we said here. this is obviously time consuming, which is why tickets aren’t a great medium for it, as we said.
