I am unable to purchase a guild charter to create a guild. The guild master says “That item is currently sold out.” when I try.
I am on Moon Guard-US
EDIT: I was able to buy a charter in Ironforge and turn it in successfully, the Stormwind Guild Master is the only one giving the error message.
Only commentary I can see going back a few years is that you might not have typed the guild name in the box before trying to purchase it, but I assume that isn’t the issue?
It would be a really clever message to get if you were trying to name your guild something that already exists since he’d technically only be able to sell one charter for that name, though.
I had several other people try as well, with no luck, but I flew to Ironforge and the Master there sold me a charter. So it only appears to be the Stormwind guy who isn’t working. I should probably repost this in bug forum.
Color me curious, I hopped back to MG to try it out.
First, I tried buying a charter using one of my bank alt guilds’ name. Got a red warning message “A guild with that name already exists.”
Tried it without a name. “Please enter a name.”
Tried it using a name I know wouldn’t be taken (Leilleaths Fan Club) - I too got the “That item is currently sold out.”
Can’t say I’ve ever seen that come through here before, or anywhere.
Thanks! That’s the same message I got. I was able to get the Ironforge master to work, just seems like the humans are on strike. Not sure if turn in works yet, since still waiting on signatures.
You’re absolutely right. I hopped over to Ironforge and let me purchase one without a problem. That is odd as all get out.
For the sake of being thorough, I’ll pop a bug report in for it, just to make sure it isn’t broken or whatnot. Perhaps one of our SFAs will pop in when they get into the office this morning and let us know something more about it.
And if you need a signature, drop a line here and I’ll come give you one.

Found this post due to experiencing the same issue.
Also on Moonguard, attempted buying guild charter from the stormwind vendor. After many “that guild name is already taken” messages, I found one that wasn’t and repeatedly got “this item is currently sold out”.
Haven’t tried the ironforge vendor yet, but glad to hear that is a potential work-around (was expecting to find that there was a cap on guilds per server or something like that).
The bad thing is that I would totally understand Moon Guard hitting some sort of limit for guild creation. Our guild finder isn’t even all of them but that alone is a hot mess of long-dead or basically abandoned guilds. But yeah, this isn’t something that is working as intended, if it’s essentially buying the same exact thing and following the same exact processes but needing to go to Ironforge rather than Stormwind where most people congregate.
Please do submit a bug report about it through the in-game interface or over in the Bug Report forum, so they can take a look into things.
