With the recent changes that make SL raids soloable, I’m trying to run them on my best geared character. Like several people over the past couple of years, I’m unable to access quite a bit of content in Shadowlands aside from the two zones that the current season’s dungeons exist in. I’ve seen several other posts about this and spent hours googling the issue, but most threads either have no resolution, aren’t relevant, or offer potential solutions that I have tried, but which have failed. Here’s everything that’s happening and that I’ve tried:
The character (this one - Carolinae) was created after Shadowlands and never did any Shadowlands content.
Found and accepted the quest from the Ebon Knight guy in front of Stormwind Keep, and I chose the option to skip the Maw, which gave me a Shadowlands Campaign entry in my quest log.
I was then teleported to Oribos, where i would expect a quest to either continue the campaign or choose Threads of Fate. Instead, I teleported to the portal area, where several of the guard-type NPCs had the hostile stance I associate with first arriving in Oribos before completing the intro quest(s).
The questgiver who, if I recall correctly, meets you at the portal area is not present.
Upon going in to the city, Genn Greymane is present and offers the Eyes of the Wolf quest, but no other NPCS (e.g. covenant selection) are present.
The Innkeeper offers their usual quests, including the intro to the two rep quests in the basement. Those two quests are also offered.
No other quests givers are present. There are no portals on the second floor and no flight master.
Attempting to jump in to The Maw results in my character being teleported back to the elevators and stunned for a few seconds.
There is no sign of any quest NPCs or anything atop Icecrown Citadel. The sky looks normal.
I can teleport to Ardenweald or Bastion via this season’s M+ teleportation room. From there, flight paths are available to other zones (not to the Maw or ZM, obviously), and to the area to access the megadungeon. Using these flight paths, I was able to get to Revendreth and complete CN without issue.
There are no World Quests available, but the big treasures are.
No side quests or story quests are offered in any of the zones whatsoever.
As expected (since I’m not in any covenant), I get kicked out of covenant areas such as Elysian Hold.
I have the “Shadowlands Campaign” header in my quest log, and it says I have 1/2 chapters completed. ‘Through the Shattered Sky’ is completed, and ‘Arrival in the Shadowlands’ is greyed out, with its associated starter quest " Stranger in an Even Stranger Land" simply not popping up and not present in my quest log… Clicking the Shadowlands Campaign header to expand it results in nothing at all being shown below it (The TWW campaign, for example, tells me how to continue the campaign - the Shadowlands campaign has nothing at all).
I’ve tried virtually everything other threads have suggested. Logged off and on, went to multiple places to check multiple things, checked Chromie, the Adventure Guide, the Notice Board. I’ve tried partying up with another character who has done SL content on another account I have on this BNet ID and party synced with them - they wind up in the same state as the ‘broken’ character. If I had a third account or a friend handy, I imagine I could get summoned to the Maw or ZN raids without issue, but I’d rather be able to go there solo.
I’m really at my wit’s end with this issue. I’ve tried dozens of iterations on google searches, I’ve read through multiple threads ranging as far back as 2 years ago, with none of them providing any fix - though one did direct me to the Ebon Blade guy in Stormwind to get the quest to actually start SL, at least.
Any and all help would be appreciated. I’m just not sure what to do from here. Thanks!
This level of detail is great for whatever is plaguing being able to quest in the shadowlands. I too am having the same problem.
Was able to talk to Greymane and skip all the nonsense Maw stuff. Using the script, I can see that all of the questlines are complete for the Through the Shattered Sky storyline.
Showing 1 of 2 chapters completed, cannot get the Stranger in an Even Stranger Land auto accept quest. 3/4ths of the NPC in Oribos are gone. Cant jump into the Maw.
Would love some help too. Ticket is in, but for some reason they thought I was asking about the Threads of Fate, which I am totally not. This issue is reproducible.
I appreciate the suggestion. I covered everything the support article says in my post.
Can’t pick up quest A Chillling Summons
Only level 48 characters on World of Warcraft accounts which have been upgraded to Shadowlands receive this quest. If you somehow canceled accepting the quest, log out of the game and back in and you should receive it again
The character is level 80 (the one listed as making the post), I did not cancel the quest, and I did log out and back in again several times, as noted in the original post. I was able to complete A Chilling Summons, but the quest line did not continue from there and I never got the next chapter.

Left the Maw and can’t get back
Go to your main city and use the Death Gate provided by the Ebon Blade. The gate will disappear after you have completed the Maw portion of the questline
This is not applicable, as I selected the option to skip the Maw and can go straight to Oribos without issue.

Can’t see the next quest I need to do
First, check the top part of your quest log for instructions on the next quest you should be picking up. If you are seeing a quest there but when you are inside the Maw are not able to see the quest in game, check your character level. The intro questline for Shadowlands is intended for characters level 48-50. If you have leveled too far beyond that, enable your trivial quests on your minimap’s tracking options. You should see the next quest available on your zone map.
I stated clearly in my post that when I expand the header in the quest log, there are no instructions. I can see the next quest line I’m supposed to do, and the first quest is supposed to automatically pop up, but it didn’t and doesn’t.

I’m having the exact same issues on this druid I literally did the exact same thing as you and now I cant pick a covenant, cant use the FP, cant goto the maw. Only thing I could do was the quest from Genn. I can run around, take the portal to/from Stormwind, but it doesnt “freeze” my screen and give me the next quest to go pick a covenant etc. I’m stuck in limbo (in wow’s version of limbo).
Double check to make sure you have Trivial Quests set to tracking and Warband Completed Quests turned off.
Otherwise, I second the suggestion to move this to the Quests forum. Nothing about this involves technical support, which is more focused on hardware and software troubleshooting for things like internet connections or poor game performance.
I am having this same issue on two characters: Level 80 Dracthyr Evoker and Leve 80 Earthen Mage.
I started the Shadowlands campaign after speaking to Morgraine then to Whitemane to do the skip since these two chars are alts.
Upon selecting the skip, I load into Shadowlands: Oribos. There I can see my Quest Log has the Shadowlands Campaign: 1/2 Chapters. “Through the Shattered Sky” is Checkmarked and highlighted green. However, “Arrival in the Shadowlands” is greyed out. Normally there is an NPC that greets you upon first arriving in Oribos to let you select how you want to play through the Shadowlands campaign, but that NPC did not appear.
Currently, I’m standing in Oribon with the Protector Captain and Attendant Protector just standing there not doing anything. I am able to roam around Oribos, but there are no available quests, except for the Greymane quest to take you to Tirisfal Glades to do the Caila Menethil quest.
I’ve rebooted, reloaded, logged off, waited 48 hours, and am still unable to trigger the “Arrival in the Shadowlands” quest.
It really is an excellently detailed post. The problem is that it’s in Technical Support and that isn’t going to get anyone anywhere.
If everyone has verified that both Trivial and Warband Completed quests are in the correct settings, then this might be a bug.
This should be moved to either Quests or the Bug report forum or I fear this excellent breakdown of the issue is not going to go to anyone who can look further into it.
Additionally, it’s important to note that this forum is monitored by fellow players and not people who make changes to the game, because it’s a troubleshooting area (crashes/install issues).
It doesn’t seem to matter where this issue is posted. I’ve seen it in many different iterations, with many different apparent issues. The fact of the matter is that Shadowlands is broken for characters who were created after the expansion. I posted what I believe to be the most comprehensive list of symptoms and attempted fixes to date, and you didn’t even read it before telling me it needs to be posted elsewhere. I’ll go post it in quests, too, but I’m not expecting a lot of traction or assistance at this point.
After having investigated your situation, we have received several reports of this issue and can confirm it is not working as intended and our developers are already working on a fix so that it can be resolved as quickly as possible.
Currently, we do not have a workaround or resolution that can be provided and we apologize for any inconvenience that this might have caused you for the time being.
In this case, we ask that you kindly wait a bit longer until the situation is fixed.
I know this is a different answer than the one you were hoping to receive, however I hope that you are able to continue your adventures in the Shadowlands as soon as possible! ^^
