WOD was flying gate. blizzard said if you care that much about flying maybe this game is not for you. Then we saw how many cared about that flying lol. Till they stopped reporting that lol. and thus entered pathfinder.
Thereâs no reason to think that there was a massive spike in people leaving for personal reasons in Cata when the logical explanation is that the game was simply not as good as it had been.
WoW obviously had a lot of momentum from being the first genuinely casual friendly MMO RPG. Which Cata killed and blizzard never managed to get back, that other companies have insisted on just making WoW clones doesnât help.
We donât know how much churn there was in any expansion. Blizzard only gave us total sub numbers. Wrath flat lined for most of itâs 2 years but we know there was significant churn. We called the many newbies wrath babies. A lot of players left in Wrath. We donât know how many new players started in Cata. There might have been less newbies and a normal amount of loss of old time players to account for some of those numbers. It might be the end of the lich king story line and a 6 year old game burnout. We just donât know how much of the sub loss was because people didnât like the game and how much because of other reasons.
I used some gold I had on the free weekend to get a token to level my top two characters up and their professions. I joined an old guild on my server and did a couple raids with them as they were having trouble filling (even with PUGs).
Cata is not a bad expansion much to my surprise, the dungeons and raids are good, and he guild achievement system is also great, itâs just very boring thematically compared to prior and post-expansions and systems like low points caps are annoying. The people I know who play or played are all over the place in sentiment so really need to wait and see before declaring whether its DOA or whether its another TBC situation where generally only the core people stay.
It is nice to see people who raided like a blind turtle in phase 1 of WOTLK performing well in raids in phase 1 of Cata as veterans leave the game. All things in balance I suppose.
It will still not be a fair comparison at that time, or in 2 weeks.
People in SoD have multiple max, geared and buffed chars completing the very fast and easy raid multiple times per week, each of these chars counts as a raiding character vs the single raiding char that 90% of the cata playerbase has.
They already have a SOD MC, Onyxia and Blackwing Lair.
Itâs called Firelands and Blackwing Descent and comes in two raid sizes. Ok Iâm being facetious, but Blizzard will probably rip some of their mechanics for the SOD version.
