Yeah, I’m not sure why either… It would make more sense to lock dynamic flight than static, but I am in no way going to advocate or support that. They should just be unlocked from the start, or can be unlocked from day one like in The Burning Crusade through Mists of Pandaria.
BlizZard’s data is saying that they spent all these resources for DR and to bring it to the old word but not enough people are participating in the new shiny that is DR.
So in BlizZard fashion they are going to act like a bull in a china shop and try to force feed people to use DR as if people are going to change their minds all of sudden with TWW launches. At this point people are dug into their positions and nothing is going to change.
All BlizZard is doing is revealing their true face as they drop their mask.
There is no logic behind it. There is just Hazzikostas’ dislike of standard flight, which he has voiced a number of times over the years. He is too afraid to remove it completely so he just punishes people who prefer to use it. Petty, I guess.
Well that is the topic at hand indeed. DR is deemed superior but BlizZard’s actions indicate that they view normal flying as superior which I find odd. They both have their pros and cons. Personally I think normal flying provides more degree of freedom.
It is superior, you can stop midflight and just afk, avoid mobs, gather, have more control, and fly across the game without even watching the screen. Faster does not equal better.
The problem BlizZard is creating by gating normal flying is that DR can be used in ways to avoid mobs as well and do things not what they originally intended. Players will always find a way to use tools to their advantage. With DR they had to reduce the speed in the old world because it was not compatible at all which indicates that they may actually tone down the speed in future expansions if they decide to go back to smaller zones. Basically DR may eat more nerf bats to the point that it is clearly inferior than normal flying. I warned people that a rug pull is coming with DR sooner or later. We saw a preview of that with DR being slower in older zones compared to DF. We shall see if that trend continues with TWW.
It does when we’re talking about a mode of movement. Static flying has advantages in certain situations, but in the game of getting from point a to point b, Dynamic wins out.
DR got slowed down because non-Dragon isles zones are significantly smaller, Dynamic speeding through them was crashing the client.
We are trying to figure it as to why they are choosing to create friction where there should not be but at this point we can conclude that there may be something wrong with TWW development for them to take such a controversial stance.
Nobody needs to speculate on this topic. Morgan Day answered this question very directly in the Q&A video that was posted after Blizzcon. You might not like the answer given, but it is not at all dubious.
You can find the video easily on youtube, he answers the question about 6 minutes into the interview.
I’m not a very trusting soul and had to verify it. As you said the exact question was answered in the “World of Warcraft Blizzcon Q&A | The War Within and WoW classic.” Not hard to find.
Nobody is going to believe it, nobody is going to like it, and nobody is going to agree, but it’s there right in front of us.
