Still doesn’t change the fact the game follows a story.
Personally I myself loved the lore & actually thoroughly enjoyed the books up until Shadowlands, so again – Matter of perspective.
Welp, lots of players of those games would still disagree and all of those games were famously successful, sooo … Again, matter of opinion.
Surprised how buggy it all is already but… there’s nothing interesting here. Delves and more talents…fine, okay. A real short story campaign that seems…meh.
Raid will likely be good, they usually are. M+ is M+ for good or ill… PVP will be as dead as it is now.
Blizzard doesn’t know how to swing for the fences and bring something truly different anymore.
Game is likely too old, the leadership is likely too locked into what has always been.
Which I consider to be an ill-advised idea. To me the issue was never about the ease of swapping like people claimed with Shadowlands. The issue to me was that they offered weak class fantasies and barely delivered on them with minimal spell/talents & gameplay changes.
Half the Hero Talents would be better served as a 4th spec, the other half should’ve stayed on the chopping board.
I find “hero talents” pointless, since there will always be a “meta” anyway. I like the idea of them being additional class fantasy to base new specs on, but it’s sadly just a pipe dream.
People typically refer to games like Elden Ring as having cryptic storytelling.
Shadow of the Colossus isn’t really cryptic. It just leaves a lot of room for interpretation about the events, but it is without a doubt a very story-centric game.
I’d rather actually play the content once it’s released and see for myself before saying whether an expansion is good or bad. I’m cautiously optimistic about TWW.
Hero Talents look hit or miss. Some look really cool (Sunfury, Frostfire, Rider of Apocalypse), while others are kind of meh (Farseer, Totemic, Lightsmith).
Delves look fun and will be something for me to do between Raid nights
The zones look interesting. Especially interested in Hallowfall.
I like Skyriding is a thing now
Warbands is a great QOL update
The pre-expansion patch is a broken mess right now, but that’s nothing new. Almost all pre-expansion patches were broken, especially any that drastically changed things. I very much remember that despite how fun Legion Invasions were, the patch was a hot mess because classes were designed and tuned around their Artifact Weapons that we couldn’t get yet. And yet there are players praising Legion as one of the best expansions.
The expansion isn’t going to be bad because of weird prepatch bugs - every expansion has weird prepatch bugs, unless they decide to sit around and wait for patch day instead.
The expansion is going to be bad because it’s too formulaic and predictable, just a carbon copy of every other expansion. They don’t have the guts to try anything genuinely new.
It will be bad for the playerbase but supposedly good for executives and shareholders who will see bigger profits from holding back content for future full box priced expansions.
It’s been obvious for awhile that Blizzard has experienced brain drain. Most of the devs do not have the talent/experience/imagination to create an engaging mmo experience for todays audience. They ran off many of the dedicated players by chasing esports. What’s left is zoomers–wanna gogogo-- to the next big thing. I wish them luck. My old friend tricked me into buying Dragonflight then quit a month after launch. I’m skipping this one and am happy in classic for my wow when I choose.
I really like what Ive played in the Beta (aside from bugs). The zones are gorgeous, I like the hero talents, dungeons are fun and delves are cool. I dont have a lot to complain about thus far. Just hoping that the launch is smoother than people are expecting…but being here since the beginning of WOW, Im not expecting it, for better or worse
