How are under-geared players supposed to get gear if not through the “catch up” system?

Through the correct catch up, the first set of protocols. Going from 353 to 389 seems like a huge wall. Ppl just dont wanna play the game. They want loot handed to them. Not a single one of these people crying would have lasted in og cata. Coming in at p4 expecting raid loot from the last tier? They would have hit level cap, realized how long it would take to farm the gold for the random boes and quit. Or bought pvp gear and ran the 3 new dungeons over and over again until geared.
They would’ve done LFR.

People also don’t seem to understand that just because you’ve hit the gearscore on paper to enter a higher level piece of content doesn’t mean you should. I think that you should not unlock the next tier of dungeon difficulty until you’ve earned the corresponding achievement for the difficulty below. Gotta do the heroics to unlock inferno. Gotta do all the infernos to unlock twilight. Altoholics will grumble at this idea and even I would find myself saying “why did I suggest this” should they do it but it’s the only way to ensure that the player has at least seen and successfully done the encounter on the base difficulty before burdening a group by being both undergeared AND clueless to the fight mechanics.

If I had to run all the dungeons again on my alt every time I wanted to use the catch up content I wouldn’t have an alt.
I literally geared a prot warrior from fresh 85 to 353 in 10 hours /played. I’ve been tanking twilight heroics all day. I replaced a 308 porcelain crab with a 346 porcelain crab that i got while tanking a twilight throne of the tides.
The problem isn’t even the gear. The simple fact is 90% of you straight up suck. Rsham pressing 0 riptides, mashing greater healing wave and trying to heal through mass aoe damage with nothing but greater healing wave. This doesn’t work. Okay, maybe it works if you have a geared blood dk to carry. But that’s not reasonable to expect unless you’re stacking the group. There’s no amount of running dungeons on joke difficulty 1 or 2 that will make these people not suck.

yes this is what ive been saying. People are just bad. Gear plays a part but what you press matters way more and how often you press it.

You can be the best player in the world but if your gear is garbage it will not matter. So no, gear actually plays a lot. The minimum requirement is far too low if even those in pure BiS is having issues though I have read it has been nerfed since the release but they should still bump from i353 to i365 or reduce the garbage HP + Damage buffs since Boss sponges are not fun. It is suppose to be a catch up mechanic, how are players expected to do so when it’s overtuned for them?
I haven’t been having issues. My alt warrior hit 85 on sunday. I’ve been tanking twilights all day. If you have the min requirement it’s fine. You just can’t play like a potato.
they already reduced the oozes health by half. Players at 353 should be able to kill an ooze if they focus it as it spawns. If they cant then maybe they should do normal heroics or go inferno until they learn their class better.
Guess if I ever come across you I’d better play like an idiot since you have something against our server.
Lol i give players the 2 mins to prove they are not complete trash but when you cant break 30k dps in these new infernos your a hard carry
One question though, do you think it’s a bad thing for someone to have lower DPS if they’re constantly kicking casters into the pile? Had that issue with a tank on an alt. Pissed off in a REGULAR heroic that I wasn’t pulling 20k but had 54 interrupts over the course of the dungeon, next closest had 4.

I’ve been 85 for 22 hours. I’m 368 (Technically I’m 380 already but I’m not wearing Gurth or my new dps tier while tanking). Somehow, I think they would’ve managed. Probably because we did.
So fun fact…needed 372 for first wing of raid finder, needed 365 for twilight dungeons. Tell me exactly how you would have been able to get to either of those ilvls in og cata? Heriocs dropped 346. There were no protocols. So, you bought boes, which you had to farm for. And find groups for the older raids to get to the newer ones. Simple google search will show you, that you’re wrong and so was the other guy.
Well for one, boes dont get you there anyway, so I’m not sure why you think anyone would farm for those. Maybe some crafted pieces? If they had the associated gathering prof? Most people would skip these though. I certainly did in og cata.
Second of all, what they actually did was get pvp gear, and then queue. Or do the previous raid tiers (guess what, plenty of groups ran firelands the whole expansion for staves), firelands normal is 378 gear. Post DS-opening you buy JP gear of 378 ilvl and get valor pieces of 397 ilvl. You really don’t need that many pieces to reach 365. The twilight dungeons aren’t a “farm” because fun fact, the quests in there give (guess what) more 378 gear.
ZG/ZA drops 353 gear, there’s plenty of available pieces to cover every slot. I’m 368 still wearing 346 blues at the moment. Both my trinkets in fact, because leaden weight and porcelain crab are just straight up better than dmc earthquake. And I’ve only gotten 1 piece of tier for my tank set, since my priority is getting into a full dps set for raid tomorrow night, so it’s not like I’ve heavily benefited from the loot available in twilights to inflate my ilvl from 353 today either.
Oh, and I suppose here’s where this gets really good. None of the dungeon content is a fraction as difficult normally as protocols are. So people would churn them out far far faster. I’m spending 20-30 minutes in some of the longer twilights already, and it’s only getting faster. Imagine if they didn’t have 150% hp.
