This is not about specific characters but about behavior.
In the past we had orcs that killed Cenarius and Mannoroth.
Some time ago we had peaceful and useless orcs.
Today we don’t even have orcs.
The problem is not killing old characters but not making decent new characters.
It was good because of Grom, just try to measure Thrall without him.
I’ve always been a bigger fan of World building in an MMO over character development and story. I know WoW’s has been a mess at times, but I just find it strange to prioritize specific characters over the player itself. I felt like a third wheel in the weird Anduin and Faerin dynamic they seem to be building. Why would the “champion” of Azeroth Orc, Troll, Undead, Dwarf, Draenai etc. integrate with that lol?
Yeah WoW was better when there was not a strong focus on the story or lore characters, but you mostly were an adventurer who went to new lands and only tangentially interacted with them.

I can’t speak for the horde because I rarely play my hoardies but i have noticed that new characters are made and then forgotten, like yrel and that one girl from bfa (lmao forgot her name)I think they’re still trying to find their footing and trying out different attempts. One day maybe. But it has to happen because nobody wants to see thrall and jaina being the big characters in another 10 years
Technically a raid boss, but yeah it was kind of a throwaway of a major character who had been built up since vanilla.
All I want before I quit this game, is to kill Thrall.
Garrosh did nothing wrong. Manipulation by “good” people can be tough.
I mean you can kill Thrall in classic WoW with a PVP raid 
Try not to think about it. I played my forsaken, a character that looks like a walking nightmare, exposed bones, rotting gray skin, red eyes, missing jaw, gross tongue hanging loose, hair like that old guy from Game of Thrones, who killed the people at that wedding.
Yeah, no problem. Get invited to a family dinner then go play with the kids at the orphanage. Stuff a guy who looks like that does, right?
Thrall was available to be killed for years. I got a war bear for it.

Who would have thought that the USA would be enemies with their old ally, the Russians, and good buddies with their old enemy, the Japanese?
It happens consistently throughout history and while some resentment does linger, overall the geopolitical goals outweigh any personal vendettas
