I’m posting on an alt for obvious reasons. Basically, I returned to the game recently and I’m mostly in blues. Guilds WILL take me. But raiding with them feels so bad because I don’t know what’s going on and my dps feels like it’s not up to par. In a pug, where they either explain the fights or I know them, I top dps usually. In raids I really feel internally like I HAVE to top dps but it’s just impossible since my gear isn’t up to par and they never explain their strats. I did an aq40 last night that went completely awful… their healers were bad and I played bad, didn’t sleep a lot and died on viscidius to poison(they had all melee stay outside the room and I didn’t expect poison to spawn, so it was awkward). I also died multiple other times in the raid, but so did they since it was an awful run. I got passed over on loot to a regular and overall I just felt terrible… I left the guild later that night.
Yes, I get this is a bit of a personal problem and a “Dear diary” moment. I’m not a bad player(I’ve performed well in wow/games in the past) but I am playing bad right now mostly due to bad gear and not knowing anything going on. I’m kinda wondering if I should just do bwl more till I get a decent weapon or just try to join aq40 pugs instead of established guilds? Wondering if anyone else has dealt with something like this before.
I wouldn’t worry about it really. With naxx coming it’s just gonna be a few months till tbc so what’s the point of gearing up now. All those green items from tbc will get you up to par. Just make sure you keep up with progression in that expansion.
This is kind of what I’m thinking, but part of me still really wants to do naxx. So I’m torn. I really feel like if I was here since the beginning of phase 5 it would be better.
There isn’t any new people coming in to do older raids. Activision has done their part in making sure classic doesn’t expand. I think you are sorta stuck since progression would take as much time as getting to tbc.
Have you been going to ZG and AQ20 pugs as well? ZG especially is a great place for catch up gear.
You can join a guild that still has some focus on MC and BWL (these do exist) until you gear better or you could just keep pugging everything if you’re more comfortable with that. I raided on my ally lock in one of these “late progression” guilds and it felt right.
It’s unrealistic for you to expect gear over a regular if you are new to the guild. That is one thing that stood out. Otherwise, if they took you undergeared and didn’t explain things to you that’s on them (although you should be watching general videos etc on the fights).
It isn’t necessary to wait for TBC if you don’t want to. You can just keep pugging if you want or whatever else.
People have bad runs. It happens even to good teams. If you left because of that in a single raid and getting passed over on gear(nobody gives the top gear to the newbie on their first run), then that guild probably dodged a bullet. Your attitude seems to be very poor and you don’t appear to be able to handle adversity at all.
Keep in mind this is my impression of you in a single post. I dont know you, I’ve never played with you. Maybe I missed the mark, but this is the impression you are giving off. I hope it helps you and you can use it to give a better one to your future guilds and find a place you can have fun.
The reason why it felt bad is they have epgdkp system or whatever it’s called and I was technically ahead on priority over another trial, but they gave it to him. I don’t care about receiving the loot so it’s not like a “oh I didn’t get something” post. It just felt like I performed bad and got passed over because of it.
There are plenty of people whom raid and dont get loot for weeks into months. You cant expect things immediately especially if you have to compete for loot with those whom have been there longer especially if you are new. Is there more to this story? I feel there could be more details you havent said.
I’m sure any guild that’s taking you in blues doesn’t have high expectations for your DPS quite yet. Find another raid and do your job the best you can. Being on time, not going afk, and not being polluting the voice channel with nonsense will earn you good boy points. Just pick up all the weird scraps that no one else really wants/already has and you’ll get geared in time.
Also, depending on your class, you can be the utility guy. If you’re an undergeared rogue, be the imp EA guy, if you’re a warrior make sure you sunder and keep up imp demo, if you have buffs, buff everyone like a champ, etc. If you’re an herbalist give all your herbs to the guild bank and suck up. So on and so forth.
Replying to you wouldn’t benefit me in any way, but I’m going to anyways.
Basically in response to your last line, it doesn’t help, but I don’t think you were trying to help to begin with. I think you were trying to defend your perceived view of classic, not to help. There must be something wrong with me since I’m having any issues with anything. Even if that were true, even if my attitude is bad, I obviously took the time to make a post asking how to deal with ANXIETY in raids, and you never answered that but instead went on a tangent about my perceived flaws as a person. So no you didn’t help.
it would be helpful if we knew which class your main was. but really, no reason to feel bad about your own performance. its all under your own control and the only person stopping you is yourself. if youre not sure about something ask about it (nicely) and make sure you show appreciation to whoever takes the time to help you, and you will probably become a valuable member of that guild.
Go to Wowhead and look up the pre-BiS gear list for your class. If you don’t have any of those yet, they will help! =) Also, maybe find a goodd social guild that can be fun to raid with. My guild has been good at explaining things to me and recommending gear, even though the only raids I’ve run so far have been UBRS and ZG.
Yeah, that’s actually pretty important. In the post I read, the OP wrote:
Regular getting loot instead of a trial, yes, that’s pretty normal and comes with being a trial. But if it was against another trial, then there’s issues.
The “standard” rules don’t apply to trials. The other “trial” guy might have already been raiding with them for multiple weeks, and is on the verge of being made a full member. Whereas this was literally your first raid, and they have no idea if you’re planning to stick around (looks like they predicted correctly in this case).
That said, not trying to rip on you. You seem like a sensitive but nice guy, and most guilds would be lucky to have you once you’ve ramped up a bit. My advice:
Find a guild with a raid leader who is nice and polite, and doesn’t provoke your anxiety when you make mistakes
Tell your guild upfront that they can expect you to be dedicated in the long-run, but right now, you’re undergeared and don’t know the fights. Some guilds are ok with that, some guilds aren’t. Just find a guild that is actually ok with it, and is willing to explain stuff to you during raids
Don’t burn yourself out trying to memorize all the boss fights, or farming gear that’s just going to get replaced. Show up to raids with all your consumes, tell the raid leader you need instructions, and focus up. Within a month, you’ll be geared af, and you’ll have figured out what you need to do in most fights
Don’t stress about loot. It’ll happen naturally. It’s all irrelevant when TBC comes out anyway.
Just relax and have fun. It takes time to learn. It takes time to catch up with people who’ve been doing this for a year. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and underperform, during this learning/gearing phase
