Aside from scopes and the things like the goblin glider, hasn’t that pretty much been the standard for Engineering since classic?
The rest of the expansions aside from Jewelcrafting and enchanting have also alrways had points where they were overshadowed by world/raid/dungeon drops. Prior to wod, Leatherworkers, tailors, blacksmiths, and jewelcrafters could craft a few epic items, but they were never as good as those found in dungeons/raids, and they only filled a few slots.
Even when they did add a few recipes/patterns they, along with some of the mats, were generally found only in raids/dungeons. (Which players complained about constantly)
Crafters can make good starter gear, as has been the case since classic. What else is being expected? If anything crafters should be blaming the introduction of the boa gear tokens in mop for making that starter gear irrelevant. (Maybe in the future they could introduce a set of boa gear tokens that improve with each tier somehow crafters could make)
Not always. It was a very utilitarian profession, in that it produced a lot of things that were very useful not only to the engineer but to other players. In early pvp its bombs and traps were incredibly useful. And later its toys, pets and mounts were unique and fun to make and have. It probably reached its peak in MoP and like most proffs, went on a downslide from there.
There have always been certain items that were bop for engineers, probably a few more numerically than other professions (although crafters all had items that only they could use). I never saw the benefit of making items bop; if you could make them, you should be able to share them.
As I said previously, other games have managed to deal far more effectively with balancing crafted gear against loot gear. ESO, for example; most of my toons there wear my crafted gear because it is so good, and often don’t change out of it for a lot of levels. And yet you can still get very good gear in instanced play as well. It just takes a bit of proper planning, and to lose the attitude they have that you have to entirely satisfy high level raiders when it comes to gear.
All the reason to craft is basically gone. Every raid needs one alchemist for the BoA cauldrons and one enchanter to blow stuff up. Other than that engineering has the only useful perk with a battle rez that might kill you and an AH in Oribos.
I used to like fishing because it was good gold, good buff food, and you could fish up pets and interesting items. Now all I get are fish and greys. It’s more efficient to do a few WQ and just buy botted fish on the AH. Even the pets and toys suck. My alchemist has a head candle. Seriously?
Um what are you talking about? Engineering is by FAR the most useful profession in Shadowlands, and basically required for anyone doing mythic keystones
I agree with your premise about professions becoming useless, but you picked the ONE useful profession to complain about
Raiding in this game is like the Golden Child in your family. Except that in this case, the Golden Child is strangling the other kids to death.
Professions are trash because MinMaxers are entitled gremlins who will scream bloody murder if anyone else is allowed to have fun. And I think if Raiding stops being the golden child, the existential crisis from all the raiders collectively will be covered on the nightly news.
The Wormhole generators and the Goblin Glider cape tinker are the best part of engineering. The weapons suck because by the time you’ve gathered the materials to build on you’ve already looted better gear.
I took tailoring to craft myself gear at the start of the xpac, and I use it to make firstaid for myself and sell bags/first aid on AH. I used to sell the gear but no one wants it any more. Maybe in 9.1 they will buy my clothy gear again
Engineering allows me to use devices from previous xpacs that I enjoy using like nitro belt and glider. Also I can us AH in Oribos cause engineer. I can’t imagine wpvp w/o engineering tbh. Also I see all those super high rank players with their sexy engineering goggles mogs. Maybe one day I can be cool enough to do that
What do you want to go back to? Like how the professions were in Burning Crusade, or Mists of Pandaria, when the crafting materials came from the raids?
Thing is they or Ion have had to play other games. In this genre or even SP RPG…crafing is kind of a thing. A big thing. Because when raid night is over and its wait a week…one looks for other things to do. That gaze often leads to crafting. And for non-raiders our gaze is eternally elsewhere. LFR gave us our memory? Raid is done? Woohoo.
Why raid or death devs not always a good thing. Not knocking raid or death but yeah…some like to go beyond weekly raid. And its not in doing alchemy and herbology to farm the mats for next weeks raid session steroids.
Make it an adventure for the oh…jsut pick some stuff and get good stuff rabble comments to come maybe. Like legion crafting wanderings. Those were a nice side thing to do mostly.
