Trying to decide second profession

Currently working with Engineering + Mining both at max level. However, I’m gonna level my alt to be gathering mining + herbalism. That way I have consistent mats/gold flow. While having great professions on my main.

Information I’m finding online regarding what is best doesn’t seem to be truly definitive on what I should go for.

Thanks in advance for any bit of advice!!

Go herbing/potion master on alt.

You can then farm ore and herbs and you can make potions for raid.

Potion master can proc free potions. It’s amazing feeding potions to my 2 70s.

Yeah we just already have a couple of alchemist for the guild.

I was more or less leaning towards enchanting for the ring enchants or jewel crafting for the unique gems.

Just to give myself a little bit of a boost on my main.

I’d do JC.

The other part to this is that my guild has decided who the guild JC is going to be so they’re focusing feeding priority designs to this person. Part of me just doesn’t want to care about that and do JC anyway so over time I can get them anyway also and I vaguely remember liking having JC back in WotLK also.

I always do what I need to do for numba 1 first in this game. You want JC. That’s what you should do.

You would get most utility out of skinning into LW. Just have to grind out enough leather to get your LW to either 350 (drums) or 375 (Primalstrike armnor).

Other grind would be JC, but not as good as having drums on hand. Lesser grind would be alchemy so you get longer duration on flasks, and you can go with transmutation mastery.

This is advice you won’t often see vocalized. I’m team self all day long and I can’t see it any other way.

If you go this route, I wouldn’t take up skinning. I’d just farm/mine > auction house > buy 1-375 LW + Primalstrike mats. More gold seems to be changing hands, but in the long run your gold per hour will be higher and it’ll be less stressful.

Ya know what. You right.

I get what you’re doing with trying to have two crafting professions. On that front, I agree with everyone else and “to each his own”. Do what you like and you think will benefit you. The guild will still benefit by having a backup/alternative.

That said, it would drive me crazy to have mining/herbalism on the same toon. You can only track one or the other. I know it is probably still better than having it on two different toons, but my mild ocd wouldn’t let me do that  I might go for skinning just for my sanity. You also would want to think about what mats your main is going to need most and I would work for focusing on that. I know others suggest and do themselves the one that is more profitable and then buy the mats they need. I admire people that do that. Again, that is a little too close to an office job to be something I enjoy doing in the game.

If you are happy with what you are doing, you can’t go wrong. Good luck!

Edit: FWIW, I always liked having enchanting just for the convenience factor. You can’t buy enchants in the AH like you can everything else…yet.

Make a blacksmith or jewelcrafter imo. Make your farmer a miner/enchanter.

It’s not that bad.

What you do is make a simple /castsequence Find Minerals, Find Herbs macro and put it on a keybind. Then you just get in the habit of tapping it while you run/fly around.

Fair enough. I could probably get used to that.
