Trust Level and Silences

I won’t go into detail about it, but I am wondering if TL3 is linked to forum silences in any way because we now use Discourse or if this is disabled or if anyone understands how it works because I was under the impression that this wasn’t something players could do. Sorry, just confused here.

Not what I am asking about, sorry if I was unclear with my vagueness. Apparently for Discourse TL3 usually means that if enough TL3 people flag something it can cause an auto-silence a person, which as you can imagine is very alarming. I am wondering if that is the case on these particular forums, or if any tech savy people might know.

From what I understand is that there isn’t auto-silence on these forums. A moderator reviews complaints and applies a punishment if needed.

That is what I thought originally, but I am not sure and just looking for clarification because these forums may be different or they may not be.

That isn’t necessarily true. A thread may be deleted for a few reasons, that doesn’t necessarily include a penalty. The penalty is what would impact your trust level.

I’m not certain I understand your question, Kirela, but I’ll answer best I can and we can try to clarify with follow ups.

Your ability to reach trust level 3 on these forums is impacted by what penalties the account may earn. That is forum silences as well as in-game penalties. We are looking into a decay system, so that even if you earn a silence/suspension, you may eventually be able to, through good behavior, earn it back. I don’t believe we have such a system yet in place, but it is on our wish list.

The software Blizzard is using is a heavily modified Discourse software, almost to the point of it being custom, so to speak.

Ive edited that post and will delete it now not realy useful anymore ty for teh clarification tho.

We do have a squelch system to hide posts under certain circumstances, pending review. I don’t believe that counts the same as a penalty though.

Well, to be more clear I am talking about Discourse’s description of trust levels and what they mean:

“TL3 flags cast on TL0 user posts in sufficient diversity will auto-silence the user and hide all their posts”

ah okay! :+1:

From what I have seen, TL3 don’t have that power on these forums. BUT, as Vrakthris said, if a post reaches a certain threshold from reports, it’s auto-squelched until a review by a moderator.

Hidden. Not squelched. You can still unhide it,and the author can still post.

From what I’ve seen forum reports in and of themselves do not suspend someone’s ability to post. It merely hides that one particular post.

Yes and no. We have a lot of customization within system because while we liked a lot of things it had out of the box, we also needed it to fit better with our community.

A TL0 user is basically a new user that has no, or nearly no, posting history. Those are the users form the majority of our spammers… which is more prevalent on the Free to Play games like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm. World of Warcraft requires an active subscription for the Community discussion forums, so it isn’t as common, but the restrictions are universal throughout all of our games.

A user may be hidden or otherwise restricted if they are found to be posting too quickly (often found with copy/paste posts that signify a spammer) or are a new user that is reported by multiple higher trust level users. A TL3 is not able to immediately squelch a new user, it takes several users to trigger that, which will put up a flag for our moderation staff to review the post.

Keep in mind it takes very little time to reach TL1. We also have the ability to adjust the values, which we do on occasion. I know we adjusted the “type too quickly” one, as it was originally way too sensitive.

Does that answer your question?

Hopefully one day TL3 can be earned back…

Post links is a pain.

Kind of.

If I get silenced or a forum suspension then the Trust Levels get reset, correct? Does that mean I am subject to being restricted by other players if I get flagged again?
Does restricted mean “unable to post”?

Essentially what I am asking can enough flags from TL3 posters cause a silence? Assuming I am not brand new on the forums and spamming.

TL3 posters reports can only auto silence a TL0. If there are enough reports.

After that it the hide feature, and only moderators can suspend your ability to post.

The post in your link talks about trust level 0, which takes like 10 minutes to leave. I don’t think you can go back down to trust 0 either, so I don’t think it applies either way.

You do currently lose TL3 permanently if suspended by a moderator.

Not reset exactly. If you are silenced you’d be unable to reach TL3. That is a silence though.

It can, depending on the situation (i.e. TL0 user who is currently pending review after their content was flagged for the review).

No. A user can only report a post for review, it is up to the Moderator to apply any penalties based on our policies.

Thank you for the clarification. I think that explains it and it seems like players still do not have the power to moderate other players, outside of the typical stuff.

I know this is your job, but take some likes!
