You get 2 choices in lines of talents you can take that you enjoy, out of the 7 total lines of talents. Who wouldn’t want that to be the standard?
I really appreciate the excitement! Just wish I could join in - the illusion of choice isn’t really something I tend to get excited about, which is what this will turn out to be if they return to the classic way of doing talent trees.
To move the bar from interested to excited, every talent needs to be something defining. The equivalent of a full out new ability, trinket, or active/passive talent from the current trees, which will be difficult for four (five for Druid) trees per class (one class tree + one tree/spec). There would need to be absolutely no incremental flat stat increases for this to be any kind of advancement from the classic trees and to show that they learned their lessons that led to the current iteration.
I’d need to read the transcript to find where I got the impression, but I interpreted a couple of statements to be nostalgic for past class permutations and abilities, so they may be raiding the vault for some past dropped abilities (Marked Shot, etc) for the trees, which may help fill it out.
Edit: I’m having a hard time seeing the forest, which I also see the pun. Thanks for using Resto Druid to show us… trees.
I’m excited, but also hesitant when I look at that druid tree. It looks like Feral might still get screwed (or even more so) with lack of utility compared to Balance druids. Too much utility is on the right side path that favors Resto and Moonkin talents, so Boomkin will still be the preferred raid and M+ dps spec. Hope that “Work in Progress” is genuine.
However, I do like the look of the Convoke icon with arrows on sides in the Balance tree. Possibly meaning we’ll be able to pick any of the 4 covenant abilities.
I do feel like this is just the illusion of choice, and now I just have to hit more buttons when I want to switch. If this makes someone people feel like they are having more customization then so be it.
I worry the system is just going to bring even more unbalance to the game similar to a more classic level state.
You can save talent profiles and switch quickly.
I’m willing to bet they’re going to aim to port some of the choices from the current talents into this system. There are some pretty fundamental differences between this and the classic talents. For starters, there is more than one talent at the bottom of the tree.
Ah that would be nice, I am all for it then if makes some people feel like it gives them some kind of rpg element back. I just can’t get excited about it myself.
I like the current trees but wouldn’t mind change. These new trees look better for leveling though
I am the opposite of pumped.
The old talent tree was just an illusion of choice. where you had 30 options in 29 of them were mandatory for group content.
maybe I’m just pampered being a restoration druid. but ever since we’ve got our current system I’ve been able to swap things up and try out many viable options where true some of them are a slight fraction ahead of others you could still make builds for different play styles with meaningful differences.
Let’s not act like the current talent trees aren’t cookie cutter either. They are. In fact it’s more cookie cutter than old trees.
The most immediate benefit is how much better it will feel while leveling. I am hoping we get the best of both worlds with this. A few playstyle choices ported over from the current system in the spec tree. Ion also said that the class tree is going to be focused on utility too so it won’t be a matter of simming or whatever.
Well there is a MAJOR benefit and QOL we didn’t have back wtih the OG talent trees and that was free reign of respeccing on a dime. So it will be waaaaaaaay less punishing.
I’m optimistic, especially where we can save multiple loadouts and swap them (in a rest area likely) which the downside of old talent tree’s was only having 1 loadout (2 with Dual Spec).
If it helps there is a picture if you scroll some more showing a pic of two different talents to pick from. It’s tied to the class directly and not to any covenant. I’m assuming it’s the same across the board. You have breakpoints and you have to pick between 2 talents when you get to it, a way to say it’s impossible to have both in some way, like if they were side by side.
It’s still not going to be as much freedom as making hybrid classes like classic. Blizz should bring back the basics where players can grab a talent from another spec to buff them in a way they play. 3 tier trees again are the way to go. Holy pali that can produce decent damage. Warriors that can stance dance. Bring back the true skill players have lost
Looks like a soulbind tree.
kinda, in the visual you are still locked into one spec and can put points in that one spec plus core class abilities
still not a true hybrid talent tree
The talent trees look like the current soulbind system with a touch of the artifact weapon scheme.
Don’t tell me y’all didn’t see this coming. We’ve been running the beta test for this to make a come back for 3 xpacs.
The pros of the current talent tree is that the choices are really simple and you don’t need a brain to overthink it, and respecing isn’t a nightmare if you didn’t like how it turned out.
The pros of the new system is alot more choices that deal with what abilities and passives we like using the most and buffing them slightly. This is a good thing for those that like to min/max.
The con of the old talent tree is well there’s too many choices for those that didn’t develop the wrinkles on their brain.
Forget the old talent system and forget the current talent system. This might not be the best system but it shows they are willing to make some of the community happy.
We haven’t even gotten a beta yet for people to test it out to let others know if it is good or not and people are already going
All I know is it isn’t tied to a certain flight with stuff like renown because Jeremy Feasel has said players will be able to grind renown with all of them . There are no mention of secondary passive talent tree systems like Artifact weapons or soulbinds /conduits . What it looks like is they combined our talents and those secondary ones into one simple system .
NO MATTER WHAT
There still will be preferred and required specs.
And don’t get me started on balance. They WILL NOT be able to (immediately) get this right.
There will be people brain storming and discovering the “New OP” spec that ends up being “broken”.
tears will flow
