I’m not sure if its true (some have said in chat that it is) but sometimes it seems that when I swap characters, especially if I swap to different servers, the people talking or responding in Newcomer Chat are different.
I’d always assumed that, being a region wide effectively Global chat, the same people would be in the channel. I have no real way of testing it because people come and go from the game and its hard to tell who might have just left or come into it.
Does anyone know if there was ever any official indication of the status? My question is mostly because sometimes I will try to help a player, log onto another alt to do that, and they aren’t contactable through NC.
it googles exactly what im asking , and scours millions of page in three seconds to provide me with a sufficient answer. gotta embrace it times a changing
Mostly correct. While there ARE different instants/shards of Newcomer Chat, I can confirm that I’ve seen players from outside my main server group in the channel before.
Connected Realms have zero bearing on who you’ll see in there.
With that being said, yeah. Obviously the two factions both have their own version of Newcomer Chat, but you can hop from one character to another character on the same faction/server and then wind up seeing an entirely different group of folks in the channel once you’re loaded back into the game. Found that out myself when I tried to hop to a different character to check something for someone asking questions about a specific class.
Yeah, it’s really hit or miss. I’ve had it tell me “Blizzard has confirmed XYZ” and then I ask for a link to said confirmation and it ends up giving me a forum post stating that it came from a moderator. But then when I look, it’s just a regular chatter. I’ve had it argue that there’s some “Moderator” tag in the Blizz forums, and when I correct it, it’s like “You are correct, there is no “Moderator” tag, it’s just a poster. There is no Blizzard confirmation of XYZ.” LOL!
