True or False: there are different shards of Newcomer Chat

I’m not sure if its true (some have said in chat that it is) but sometimes it seems that when I swap characters, especially if I swap to different servers, the people talking or responding in Newcomer Chat are different.

I’d always assumed that, being a region wide effectively Global chat, the same people would be in the channel. I have no real way of testing it because people come and go from the game and its hard to tell who might have just left or come into it.

Does anyone know if there was ever any official indication of the status? My question is mostly because sometimes I will try to help a player, log onto another alt to do that, and they aren’t contactable through NC.

I’d move this to CS and ask there. They might have more information than GD.

In World of Warcraft, the Newcomer Chat channel is sharded, not region-wide.

This means:

  • It’s limited to players on the same realm (or realm group) and shard (a temporary instance of a zone used to manage population).
  • You’ll typically see other new players and guides from the same server cluster, not from the entire region (like all of NA or EU).
  • The chat is intended to keep the experience manageable and more personalized, avoiding region-wide spam or overload.

At least somebody had the guts to use ChatGPT to look it up

it googles exactly what im asking , and scours millions of page in three seconds to provide me with a sufficient answer. gotta embrace it times a changing

I use it almost regularly lol I thought I was a pretty fast researcher, but it turns out that Google AI is faster than me and sometimes more accurate

sometimes it gets something wrong and i correct it and hopefully that contributed to a correct answer for someone else next time around!

Unfortunately, that pulls from random Reddit and forum made up stuff and is rarely accurate when it comes to WoW stuff.

Mostly correct. While there ARE different instants/shards of Newcomer Chat, I can confirm that I’ve seen players from outside my main server group in the channel before.

Connected Realms have zero bearing on who you’ll see in there.

With that being said, yeah. Obviously the two factions both have their own version of Newcomer Chat, but you can hop from one character to another character on the same faction/server and then wind up seeing an entirely different group of folks in the channel once you’re loaded back into the game. Found that out myself when I tried to hop to a different character to check something for someone asking questions about a specific class.

Yeah, it’s really hit or miss. I’ve had it tell me “Blizzard has confirmed XYZ” and then I ask for a link to said confirmation and it ends up giving me a forum post stating that it came from a moderator. But then when I look, it’s just a regular chatter. I’ve had it argue that there’s some “Moderator” tag in the Blizz forums, and when I correct it, it’s like “You are correct, there is no “Moderator” tag, it’s just a poster. There is no Blizzard confirmation of XYZ.” LOL!

That’s not true. Every time I am on, I see characters from just about every realm but mine. South America, US/North America, and Oceanic.

Again, I see guides from all sorts of servers.

I’m not sure if you used AI to get that info, or was it from some official site?

if its really wrong i can make chatgpt fix the mistake for the future

Ive literally asked it questions about WoW before.

it said MoP was patch 11. I told it, no. It then said “Im sorry, you are absolutely right. The patch was not 11, it was 11”.

AI sucks donkey chunks.

its correct 99% of the time

Based on current research and benchmarks,

ChatGPT is not correct 99% of the time.

Thats from Googles AI.

Sooooo.

I dont use ChatGPT, someone ask it " Is chat gpt correct 99% of the time"

For well-established topics (science, history, math, etc.), I’m **90–95% accurate

No, it’s not accurate to say ChatGPT is 90-95% accurate for well-established topics across the board

Again from Googles Ai.

Check out this study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10277170/

Not trying to argue or anything, just saying that AI is not a good thing to use.

ofc the two ai will compete with each other

As for the original Topic,

Yes, there are shards to Newcomers. I say this as a Guide for a long time.

What has any of this to do with the topic of this thread?
