Trolling in Classic was, masterful. Everyone was so innocent that they didn’t understand what was going on.
Warlocks going to Goldshire/Redridge or the Crossroads and asking unsuspecting low-level characters to help them summon a “friendly” demon. Little did they know, coming through the portal was a Doom Guard who murdered them all!
People who asked mages for portals and then clicked the first portal the mage put up.
“Lunii has reported you AFK. You will be removed from the Battleground in 30 seconds unless you type /AFK”
Hunters of all factions pulling various world bosses to their respected cities or the enemy cities for some fun.
All of these forms and many more need to be revived! I can’t wait to go into a pug MC run. Have the main tank pull Ragnaros, get three sunders, the DPS start and BAM. Divine Intervention the tank. Chaos ensues!
My favorite was loading into an AV, while everyone is gathered at the gate type “/em has reported you AFK. Type /afk to clear” …and watching 20 people disconnect from the BG. It was a learning experience, a right of passage.
There was a troll on my Server by the name of Sandisk, and he was truly legendary. The guy never made it past level 30 as far as I know, and while he was irritating to some; it was clearly all all in good fun.
Unfortunately some people want to eliminate that component of the community because they hate community… With out that element of “trolling in chat” I do feel the game will be worse.
Long live the real trolls of WoW, long live all of them! I am not promoting it, but the real ones are worth letting live.
If people get banned for PVP on a PVP server I will not stick around playing any more Blizzard games.
I do believe I am not alone in that sentiment. Just for the record if you select to “FLAG” your self for PVP or Select a PVP server then you agree to getting camped by any one or group of people who are perfectly willing to force your grave yard res.
It’s not the same company it was 15 years ago. I hope I’m wrong, really. But seeing how sensitive they are on the forums now compared to the absolutely devastating trash talk that was on Stormreaver’s forums back then–I don’t think I will be.
The people who want to eliminate trolling are people who have too much pride and have had their egos hurt at some point in the past by a troll.
I’ve been trolled TONS of times. I felt like a complete loser as the victim, but in the end I thought it was hilarious.
I was a “victim” of that “help us kill this boss in STV, we’ll summon you” when I first discovered it. They summoned me deep underwater, but they failed because I was undead and just swimmed to the surface. I still thought it was great though!
I’ll never forget stuff like that. I even know the priest who was in the group with them. Dude’s name was Sartuz from <Silvan Rangers>. I think the other priest was Promdates and I don’t remember who the warlock was.
You’re not kidding, the trash talk was purely epic… The things said on the old forums would get instant bans now days.
The reality is, none of it was ever bad and none of it is worthy of a ban. People have taken the whole E-bullying thing and turned it into some sort of drama because too damn many kids live their life on line while the entire big world is out there waiting to squarely kick them in the rear when they whimper just once.
A friend of mine while playing on his horde account enjoyed trolling back in the day; you reminded me something truly epic… God tier trolling his buddy at it’s finest. How could you even be mad right?
