Tripping the Rifts pre-launch cataclysm event feat of strength skipped?

TLDR: This was the limited time event achievement added for the Cataclysm Pre-Launch Events. It requires the world to be the old world before the shattering. Assuming April 30th brings about the new world with new leveling mentioned in the blue article, then this completely misses what happened in original wrath to cataclysm.

Please stay true to the content as it was in the original pre-patch. Please add this back in. TY

We can’t really say if it was skipped until the date actually arrives. It started with the Cataclysm system patch (4.0.1), and then the new world was added with 4.0.3. We’ll just have to see how they roll it out.

" Leveling Updates: Level through a changed landscape in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms from level 1 through 60."

I think it’s safe to say they will skip it because cataclysm beta is currently in patch 4.4.0 and in the article today they bundled the prepatch systems and world changes.

In addition, Tripping the Rifts actually happened before patch 4.0.1. wowhead.com/achievement=4887/tripping-the-rifts#comments

I’d take the blue post with a grain of salt, it’s littered with errors and ambiguous wording.

Of course. But given that the event is time sensitive and only possible in the old world, I’d rather sound an alarm now than completely miss out on it forever. I just want to try it and experience it.

This only gives Blizzard 3 weeks notice before the new world hits, and the event even took 3 weeks originally so we’re already behind. wowhead.com/guide=cataclysm&prelaunch

its funny because the PTR prepatch was skipped already so people assuming it will be skipped is not out of the blue

Incorrect, 4.0.1 dropped on October 12, 2010, and phase 1 of the Elemental Unrest started in November. I assume you’re using the patch on the wowhead comment as a date, but that comment was made when Cataclysm pre-patch was on the PTR / Beta for that time, so the patch stamp was still put as 3.3.5. The Elemental Unrest is not part of 3.3.5 at all.

Sure, but that still doesn’t refute the fact they’re probably skipping the event with no mention of it. They literally say on April 30th, " Leveling Updates: Level through a changed landscape in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms from level 1 through 60". This event happened in the old world not the new world which is changing on April 30th.

That doesn’t mean we can’t still have the event. Sure, it’d be out of order, but they can adjust the event to run in the post-shattered world.

I don’t think classic development team has the capacity to do this in parallel with developing sod phase 3 hotfixes or sod phase 4. So I’m hoping this post spreads awareness.

I have zero faith Cataclysm would even be implemented in a way that appeased most people that are sticking with it (including myself)

As far as I see, if they don’t do this event properly, then its fine as its not like I skipped the event.

Judging from the rushed efforts on Beta and the quick timeline and zero communication, I don’t think the launch let alone the expac will be a success

Do you think they could do the rift event before prepatch similar to the stealth drop of the troll/gnome event? Destroying the rifts doesn’t require the new talents etc. it just needs to be done before the shattering.

yes its skipped probably to make more resources for SoD. (lol)

Why would this event be skipped if they are having a 4 week long pre-patch to cata, and this event being literally what the pre-patch event is.

Did you read the announcement for the prepatch? The announcement specifies changes that didn’t occur originally in the cata prepatch. These changes most likely won’t allow the elemental rift event to happen if the new world is implemented and playable on the 30th of April. i don’t see blizzard enabling goblin and worgen starting zones and overall leveling without first updating the old world this obviously conflicts with the elemental event.

What stops the event from being active in the new world?

more work for blizzard… they would have to redesign the event to fit in new zones, Org and SW

Story wise the elemental rifts opening is the prelude to Deathwing escaping and destroying the old world (the shattering)

I know about the original event, either it will drop a week before pre-patch or they will simply just do it during the new world pre-patch, but they are completely capable of doing it with the new style.

That was one of my theories too. Blizzard could/will probably stealth drop this event before the prepatch. Even though the original event coincided with the updated wow systems and talents it could be done without these changes.
