No offense, but that’s an oversimplification of my response to Matthew for saying that.
It’s not about feeling bad about it, it’s about how it’s used against your arguments, to just more or less purposely dismiss it, without even arguing for their own points, since… this is a discussion forums. I don’t find this a satisfactory response to the arguments i’ve put forth, or really anything i’ve put forth, as it can be simply used on quite literally anything without even requiring the other person to do anything, and it’s usage (as i seen on the forums here) is more or less dismissing the arguments, not based on the merit of the arguments, but the character (the person) who made the arguments rather.
Put simply, it’s not an argument.
Well there’s a reason why i posted a josh strife hayes video…
But to explain this in my own word, if you are posting a casual opinion on the internet, and if i tell you to “you need to play for a 100 hours, it gets better”, i’m not certainly putting the game in a good light by suggesting the first 100 hours are not good. If you are just trying the video game and if it doesn’t appeal to you, then i’m not going to tell you to continue playing if you really don’t want to. Time and Money is too finite on this planet to waste on trying some more to gamble on the chances that it might become better for you later on. A game ideally should hook you in the first 2 hours.
I don’t want to state the obvious, but nobody wants the first 2 hours to suck.
Years ago, i’ve tried Blade N Soul. It was … okay for my first 3 or so hours, but it’s nothing spectacular or something that holds my attention. Meanwhile, i can see myself getting into Star Wars The Old Republic because of my very good couple of hours and then some more (even got to level 20 at some point as free trial)… if EA wasn’t being EA.
Yes, MMO’s do infact require huge time investments. I understand that perfectly. But we got to think on the average player here, that not everybody is going to spend 100 hours just to try an MMO out to see if they like it or not. I mean that’s the average time per month for somebody who plays and like that MMO just about casually, isn’t it?..
