Traveling and afraid of a ban

With all the bans for account sharing recently ive seen quite a few people say they were banned after playing from another location while traveling. Are there any ways to be absolutely sure I don’t catch a ban? In my situation I would be traveling from MN to Florida for 10 days and just be logging in on a laptop to do dailies. Would logging in a few times on my laptop at home before I travel be necessary as I’ve never played wow on this laptop before, I usually play on a desktop. Thanks

Take a peek at the blue response from yesterday in a thread where someone asked about traveling to Thailand.

No, you don’t get banned for traveling, and neither did those folks.

  1. Put an Authenticator on your account. That reduces the chances of the security system locking you out for suspicious activity. That is NOT a ban, that is just a safety method.
  2. IF you get locked out, reset your password from the new location. That lets the game know it is you logging in, not someone else.
  3. Don’t travel faster than is possible via human/mechanical means then complete certain types of game content that people often pay for pilots on.

That is not a bad idea. The game does track what you log in from, and where. Getting the game used to you using that device is a great idea.

Again though, if you have an Auth on the account it reduces chances of lockouts.

I don’t really have much to add that hasn’t already been shared here. Just chimming in to confirm the accuracy of their info! Thanks Mirasol and Humanbeak

Yea I would be doing my 3 daily quests in new zone and that’s it from a connection thats static and non-vpn and logging off each day. I am taking a flight at 6am in the morning but wouldn’t log on for at least 12 hours. I also have had an authenticator on my account for quite awhile. I think I will login a few times from my laptop just so they can match the HWID to my IP at home so when I travel and login from Florida at least there will be some links. I get the feeling everyone who got banned and is saying it was from travel happened to “forget” they bought a mage tower boost also.

Excellent! That will help prevent security lockouts. I have also traveled thousands of miles and been able to play with no issues.

It is great you can get the laptop set up and tested before you go. Also remember, you don’t have to download WoW again. You can just copy the WoW directory from the Desktop over to the laptop. Then just download the Launcher app and point it to the WoW directory. Saves a lot of time and if you have addons, they come along with the copy.
