Transmog system is broken

I was really glad to hear that there would be a large focus on cosmetic gear. Nice, yes? Well, there are flaws in the “system”.

  1. I don’t think I need 25 different strange accessory cosmetics. I really don’t need 5 different bland colored backpacks.
  2. Why are the weapon appearances so…boring in dragon flight. It’s like it was decided that we’d get basic weapon appearances and just use weapon enchants to improve the appearance.
  3. why are the more impressive xmog appearances gated on high end content? Isn’t it enough that the MDI/Mythic Raiding groups get the best gear–and the special mounts? Surely xmog should be tied to non-MDI/Raiding achieves, rep or purchase/quest/world drops.
  4. the color selection SUCKS. Seriously. 18 shades of red, none that match?

a few suggestions (besides learn to swim) that might improve things:

  1. Dyes. Please. That way we can actually somewhat personalize our xmog.
  2. how about some unification of the appearances. For example, how about if every cloak color combination comes in the various shapes/sizes. So I’d pick a nice color combination and choose the size/shape of the cloak to fit my needs.
  3. Leave cosmetic/xmog as a game feature that is casual inclusive. This game has really become less fun over the years since the MDI mentality took over. I know that’s not going to change, but please open up cosmetics. Isn’t it enough that the MDI/high end raiding/high end pop players get the best gear, rare achievement mounts, etc.
  4. More options. More, more, more.

I’d love it if cosmetic/xmog gear was equally available to every one.

Other things that need to be done, allow us to choose which eye the eye patch covers. Ever notice when you have a hunter using a gun, they aim through the eye patch eye.

So many weapons lately, especially melee weapons, have been so THICK it’s insane. It’s like they don’t think we can see the pretty details unless each weapon is a foot thick.

Also we haven’t had good “realistic” weapons in a while (that I know of) that aren’t crazy thick. The 2H sword on the trading post is a good example. I’d love to use it if it didn’t look like a foam sword.

I daresay you’ve not looked very hard then. It’s been a great balance of simple and elaborate weapon appearances.

To incentivize you to do it. Obviously.

Has literally nothing to do with the dreaded MDI. The best-looking sets have always come from the most challenging content…

Why would there be elaborated intricately detailed hand held weapons on isles that were inhabited by dragons for thousands of years? Dragons don’t need weapons.

Let’s see — the Djaradin are underground dwelling savages all about earth & fire — no chance of intricately designed weaponry there.

Tuskarr are fishermen and hunters, making most of their weapons, tools and armor from trees and furs.

Dracthyr slumbered for thousands of years and were soldiers bred for war, they wouldn’t need decorative weapons.

Centaurs might have a few spears or shields of intricate design from their ancestors, but again basic materials and feathers, nothing shiny.

Highly intricate designs for weaponry’ and armor just doesn’t fit where we are. Maybe 10.2 will change that if we delve further into Neltharion’s treasure troves, but if that happens I would expect a return to void-themed items like BFA.

Even then, you can find them, here and there. There’s some Titan based weapons (mainly swords, it looks like) in the Cobalt Watcher’s, Tyr Hold, and Lore Watcher’s colors. I see where your coming from though. The groups in your example are a lot more prevelent so it makes sense their weapons are too.

I can’t seem to transmog anything but shoulders and belt buckles myself.

right??? I barely ever use 1h maces anymore due to how awful they look on the hip.

Hey! If you want Dyes you gotta go to GW2! WoW hasn’t gotten that far yet… :dracthyr_comfy_black: :dracthyr_comfy_blue: :dracthyr_comfy_bronze: :dracthyr_comfy_green: :dracthyr_comfy_red: :dracthyr_comfy_sip:

It’s not a matter of “getting that far.” The devs could probably do it pretty easily. Though it would look pretty bad, since it would basically just be applying photoshop filters over the flat textures the game uses. And even then, since WoW uses recolors to differentiate gear from various difficulties, I wouldn’t count on them ever bothering to implement something like that to begin with.

Like asking the devs to update the hideous outdated trees in the Elyween Forest. :dracthyr_hehe_animated:

eh? Why would they spend time messing with a 20 year-old zone?

That’s so that more people have access to the color backpack they want. Just because you want X color doesn’t mean the next person wants the same color.

There have been several weapons that I’ve liked this xpac. Regardless, this is an aesthetic complaint and doesn’t actually pertain to transmog.

Because they’re doing the hardest content, and therefor get the best rewards. That’s kind of how all games work.

It’s not that bad - though I’ll agree that it would be nice if there were some actually black items in game instead of just dark grey.

WoW is too old and has way too much gear for this to happen. Games with dyes were either designed with it in mind or it came out extremely early in the game.

While I agree that there are times that I wish I had a different cut of a particular color cloak, adding something like this to WoW would likely be as difficult as adding dyes. There’s just too many cloaks in game.

How is it not? I mean, sure, there may be a particular appearance that you want that’s current that you may not be able to get as a casual, but people run legacy content for transmog items all the time. That’s one of the primary reasons why people do that.

More options generally are nice.

Bingo! :evergreen_tree: :evergreen_tree: :evergreen_tree: :dracthyr_yay_animated:

speak for yourself.
I’ll take all the bland backpacks they can make. lol

It would be great if any item that enters inventory automatically unlocks as a transmog option in our collections. So I don’t have to make a warrior(all armor types and most weapons able to be equipped) and a caster (caster weapons) to go transmog hunting for my whatever else main that isn’t a warrior or a clothie.
