It’s almost like it was added as an option for a reason.
That’s what I’m advocating for!
Just imagine, that one transmog or weapon drops, but your gear is better. So you think, “gee whiz, I love the look of that, but my gear is better. I best hit transmog and hope I win the roll!”
People like to preach the moral high ground, but when it comes down to it, you won’t hit transmog roll because that is effectively passing on the item.

This is in some hope to stop people in LFR to need on everything when they have way better? unlikely to happen sure it will stop the actual people for transmog but you can’t change how certain people behave on the internet…
To be honest, with a transmog button existing if people are rolling need for transmog they should get suspended, with a greed button if people are rolling need then vendoring or selling the item in any way they should get suspended. The rules of the dungeon are clearly set out by the game with this system. Need before Transmog, you are breaking the contract of the group rules by going against that.
There is no reason to roll need if you don’t need it.

you have 25 players in a group doing lfr 20 NEED the gear that drops and 5 are people with better gear carrying the raid for transmog drops
still with me?
okay so now here’s the issue if you need on the gear and i use the transmog roll on the gear YOU get the gear YOU WILL ALWAYS get the gear and I WILL NEVER get the transmog
so long as someone needs on a piece which will be 90% of lfr raids I WILL NEVER get the transmog from transmog rolls

I 100% agree. And you stole my idea because I have been saying this for a while.
That said, rolling Transmog right now does serve a purpose. Since you get lesser priority, it’s good for hunters because if you roll need as a hunter you gon get kicked.

I think those rules can be enforced in a guild, where you risk your raid spot or whatever or even in a group of friends.
But, come on man, in LFR or dungeons, do you think players will genuinely never roll need on a piece of transmog they want?
What is so bad about proposing that the transmog roll just gives you the transmog so the need button can actually be just that, need.
Especially now that transmog is universally acquired, the transmog roll should definitely get an update!
I am sorry, it was strictly by coincidence. I’m glad we share the same idea! I hope other players champion the same idea of having the transmog button give you the dang transmog, so people who hit need can actually roll against players that need the item.

Because there are effectively only Need and Pass options.
If you press Transmog or Greed you might as well be hitting Pass because you will lose to someone that hit Need even though they only want the item for transmog/gold/shards.

I am fine with a transmog button update, I just think those not using the transmog button and using need instead of transmog just to get a transmog deserve a ban as it’s breaking the group contract innately in the game. TBH if reported that may even happen not sure if rules changed or not but it used to be if you reported misuse or misrepresentation of the rules you wouldn’t get the item or anything but the person reported could face actions.

the only fix to this is the game being smart enough to know that you don’t need the item and not let you roll need.
But it isn’t.
So it requires players to not be sociopaths and click tmog instead of need. Which is going to fail 99.99999% of the time.
As it stands, if there’s a need button i press it. Because I need the item for equipping/tmogs/gold/disenchanting.
Past that I don’t even know if greed or tmog takes prio, I press tmog over greed
I agree with some of the concepts others have already come up with.
In my opinion, Need and Transmog rolls should be independent from each other for the same piece.
Meaning, two people will win for each piece. One gets the actual item as it works now and the other just wins the transmog of it.
Blizz can come up with some RP to justify two separate rolls on the same item. e.g. Physical item and it’s lingering magic essence (transmog…)

Yes, and I own it. I’m not trying to sugar coat it. I will hit need if I want that transmog piece.
Until the transmog button is fixed and just gives me the appearance without hitting need.

I’d like that option, but as it is not an option, this is why I run alts through LFR to get looks I can’t get from things like the catalyst.
