Transmog in the in-game store

Activision is taking over, and they’re turning WoW into Fortnite.

This six-month promotion is an incredibly thinly veiled way of introducing more transmog into the in-game store.

EDIT: I MISSED THE ENTIRE PART WHERE IT’S LITERALLY JUST IN THE STORE so EXTRA REEEE

Yes we’ve had those ugly as sin head pieces forever - but this is an entire set and clearly with everything else happening at Blizzard it is clear intention that they plan to add more of this to the in-game shop instead of rewards for in-game content.

We pay a subscription, or buy a WoW token that someone else has paid $20 for to stay subbed. Why is it expected to pay for “extra” content? (“extra” is not something you can label in-game assets as).

This will be one of two situations.

The most likely being that we will see more and more of this trash (exactly like store mounts) being diverted from being obtainable in-game and put onto the shop, while they still charge a subscription fee.

The second being that WoW is heading towards a Free to Play model with single purchases for expansions and microtransactions being the main focus.

With how terribly they’ve handled Shadowlands (delay was necessary because of their failures, delay was the right move but only after they failed to meet their own goals in the first place), adding transmog to the in-game store is a disgusting and blatant disregard for the Blizzard community.

I support transmog in the store. I want more of it. I want better versions for sure though.

Of course you do.

It sucks but we have to remember they need to make money. But once they start selling top level gear, then we’ll know it’s the end.

They wanted the expansion delayed, this is the price.

Activision-Blizzard is not hurting for profit.

What?

There are financial metrics Activision requires them to hit. No expansion sales this month. Instead, you get transmog.

The problem is corporations always want more, otherwise the shareholders will want the CEO’s head. The CEO of course doesn’t want to lose his $20M salary.

The delay absolutely did not stop expansion sales rofl

Every time, same reactions. There’s a mountain of content and unique rewards in game already. Shadowlands is loaded with them. One mount or mog in the store every few months isn’t harmful.

The store’s been here since Wrath and WoW hasn’t gone free to play yet or started dying.

Activision is now in the mortal combat finisher stage of killing Blizzard.

I know multiple people, personally, in real life, who cancelled their pre-order due to the delay. As someone who took off work next week, I can understand. How can you say the delay cost them no sales with a straight face?

honestly, i just think it’s a little pricey for a transmog. i mean, 25$ canadian? why not something less… wow-token-y?

It’s just a cosmetic thing! What is the problem about it?
99,9% of the game sets you just need play to get. And for sure, majority of them by far are better than this ugly fairy transmog.

Why would people who canceled their pre-order buy a transmog for a game they’re “protesting” over delays?

We’ve had mogs / cosmetic items in the store previously… why is the new one surprising?

Also, we’ve had things like the Yeti costume with the Virtual ticket and the T-mog that came with Shadowlands. So… nothing new.

This is just like players who were freaking out over an alleged private forums that Blizzard might have. It’s like… okay and? Blizzard being hypocritical again, so what? Nothing new.

You don’t like it, stop paying for your sub. Stop giving them money.

The Eternal Travelers set is actually available to anyone with Shadowlands. Digital Collectors Edition, Base Edition, whatever. Anyone can get it.

Those are clearly different things to promote events and expansions than just adding things that should be available to obtain in-game without seperate purchases.

You do realize that all the MMOs have transmog in cash shop, Blizz showed late to the party.

Fair point, still doesn’t avoid the fact that this isn’t a first. There used to be 3 different cosmetic helms that were only available in the WoW store.

They have since been removed, but still… why is this any different or worse? It’s nothing new.
