Transmog Improvements Megathread

I still kinda wish we can get some the NPC outfit that only mean for them

The cross armor thing I don’t really care about myself. My point was even within armor class you get things that make you not look like your class.

As for cross mogging, eh. Not being able to mog cloth over plate isn’t really a big deal for me personally. I care much more about artifact and holiday restrictions.

I still disagree that all gear should have its restrictions removed, but we can at least agree on holiday mog restrictions being lifted.

I also thought OP’s idea to make boss armor cosmetic was ok, since it’s just a few pieces.

Yeah, I’m that case I get where you’re coming from. I’m neutral on all restrictions removed, but probably lean more toward:
“Well plate over plate makes sense just fine. You can look whacky and not like your class in plate. But armor type remains the same so it works too.”

Plus if we really want to get technical, mogs would stay more rare to the armor type in that case.

I just really want my sunglasses and flowers for goodness sakes.

Minor things:
Remove item quality restrictions. If you can equip a junk or white quality item, you should be able to save it for transmog.
If you get a souldbound item, let it unlock regardless of if you can equip it or not.
Skimpy mog toggle for males and females.

I definitely think they should drop weapon types and allow transmog across the board although maybe keep the 1H/2H separate but in the end result even that doesn’t really matter much.

I like the idea of tabards being in two parts with a toggle or perhaps different ways to wear or present a tabard – this could be universally applied but they’d probably have to go through every tabard in the game and adjust them which costs time and money.

The standard tabard model is extremely annoying in that it doesn’t match up so many armor sets – you want the symbol but want the model not to practically glitch through the belt or other pieces.

I’ve played other games where dyes were possible but they were just a cheap tint that allowed pretty low res gear (the normal back then) to sorta match, problem i with the way current models/textures are it’d be a lot of work. The game has already addressed this to an extent by having so many recolors of a limited number of textures and models available as other items.

I definitely feel more gear should be cosmetic but it’d have to be items like heritage armor that are never intended to be functional gear. They’ve done cosmetic gear sets for a couple of expansions now but some of them are still armor-specific which is annoying.

I don’t think it would be, it would just be turning the bottom half on/off.

Skimpier than hiding everything except pants?

No, let us choose if we want to show the skimpy version of the armor or the full coverage version of the armor. We all know there’s armors that have a skimpy version on female toons and a full coverage version on male toons :stuck_out_tongue: Let us choose what version, not just let our toon model choose it.

They’d need to rework the models because right now they’re only designed to fit on the respective gender.

Making a slutmog chest fit a male character would require a new model designed for his frame.

No, really? I didn’t know that it would cause them to actually work O.O

I find it interesting that you’re zeroing in on the “slutmog” aspect of what I’m asking for, and not on the part where I want the female toons to have full coverage versions of the skimpy items. Granted, I like having the skimpy mogs, but those armors have some pretty nice looks full coverage too, and I would like that on my female toons.

This should never, ever be done. Classes and their gear type need to retain some identity.

I’m just using slutmogs as an example. It’d work the same way moving the less slutty option to a female character model. They’d need to add to options for every outfit they updated and design the slutty/non-slutty version that fit the opposite gender.

It seems like more work than they’re gonna do to update old armor.

Making the sunglasses event restricted was criminal.

My transmog fixes would include… fix zandalari tmogs because they were clearly rushed.

And fix the weapon/skin legion mogs for druids please… i do not want to have to stick with he 4 BASIC daggers for druids and have each color tied to like 8 skins.

I understand it was done last minute and a temp fix but it needs to be worked on.

Why though? I think the only ones that shouldn’t be treated as cosmetic would be races’ heritage armors.

I think I’ve played too many other games that they didn’t have that philosophy(classes need to be distinct) that it’s colored my views here, but if a clothy wants to look like an uber-plate wearer, or if an uber-plate wearer wants to make you think you’re picking on a low geared clothy, more power to them

Considering the fact that WoW’s art style makes everything look like heavy armor, I don’t think this would be a big problem.
Also, we’re going to soon be able to hide pretty much everything, so…

There are still distinct visual appearances between the armor types. Putting a warrior in robes is going to look weird and betrays the iconic look of the class.

You and me both know this isn’t entirely true. For starters, chest “armor” in this game is nothing more than plain texture painted over our characters models. Throw on the fact that most shoulder pads look really massive even for cloth users, we can’t say there’s really a distinct look for each armor type.
We have seen time and time again how easy it is to emulate other armor types even with the current transmog restrictions. Personally, I find this whole class fantasy argument pretty weak.

Also, I think a major improvement would be to up the resolution of old mog models. Vanilla models, in particular, are incredibly pixelated, and quite a few of them are still worn by a large number of players.

A.) This hasn’t been accurate since Legion.
B.) Those “plain texture” reflect a variety of armor types. Cloth ones look like fabric and stitching, leather ones look like straps and buckles, plate ones look like metal armor.

Literally everything in the game has textures, the argument that “well they’re both just plain textures” makes no sense because the textures that each type has are different.
