Can this be done? I have 2 accounts and cant afford to keep both going at the moment due to unforeseen events, but would like to get my DH to my main account.
I did put a ticket in asking for some temporary game time on the inactive account to purchase a transfer (which has been done before and I have seen GM’s suggest to do so) but was told it was simply impossible and the decision was final. Has me a bit salty, being an almost consistent 20 year subscriber and having a purchase history that hurts the soul ><
You should be able to log into the inactive account just fine without a sub, you just wouldn’t be able to play any characters over level 20. I’ve never tried it, but I don’t see why you couldn’t purchase a character transfer and use it on an inactive account.
Nothing in the support article says you have to have game time to use the service. There are limitations that might prevent you from moving if you are unable to access the character to resolve, like heirloom, battle pets, etc. You would need active game time to log on and clear those out.
I know there is a distinction between an actual Starter Edition account (game has never had game time) and a Veteran Account (account has had game time in the past but is currently unfunded). However, I wonder if that distinction applies in a transfer.
I guess the only way to know would be to log into the unfunded license and see if you can start a transfer.
Just to touch on this - they stopped this practice with the release of the Progressive Classic WoW Token. Because Retail accounts have far less restrictions with their purchase/use of tokens and the explicit rules regarding the use of Progressive Classic tokens, this has negated the vast majority of need for those boons of a day’s gametime to handle such business.
And with all things - what used to be a practice doesn’t mean that it will always be so.
But also in that vein? I do know that both accounts used to require active game time to do transfers and such - it is no longer explicitly stated in the Transfer FAQs. Perhaps one of our SFAs will pop in and elaborate, but if it will let you? I’d say go for it. If you do have heirlooms on that character, it won’t allow the transfer.
Well, your intention is to transfer the character regardless. If it does have that error, then you can perhaps work with a GM to perhaps lend a hand in clearing the way for you.
At the absolute worst, you’re no worse off than you are now. The transfer token will be there for when you can afford to pay a month’s sub in order to clear the way.
I don’t know what ticket path you used for your initial inquiry? But give this path a try. If nothing else, perhaps it can give you a definitive answer of whether or not the path is clear for you to transfer your DH.
You may get a templated response at first. This is only to help push folks to resources where they can solve their issue themselves, rather than waiting on a ticket response. THIS IS NORMAL. There will be a button to the tune of “I still need help.” Hit that and it will kick it back for a GM to investigate.
Pay no mind to ticket timers. They’re not specific to YOUR ticket. It’s an estimation based on the oldest ticket in the system.
There is such a thing as providing too much information. This can muddy the reason and then the response to your ticket.
I’d go in that you want to transfer DH NAME off of WoW1 (or whatever account label it’s on) to WoW2 (or whatever the account name is for that one.)
Account#1 is inactive. You are also not sure if there are heirlooms on that character that may bork out the transfer. You can then give them permission to delete the heirlooms or ask for the day’s game time to handle it yourself.
Going through this particular path, perhaps they’ll work with you on the quick chance to log in to clear the character. At the very least, perhaps they can handle the heirloom issue if not. This being a specialized ticket path, you may have more luck than however you submitted your ticket before.
Please let us know how it all turns out - and good luck to you!
So I got some help from a real live GM. I’m fairly certain the initial response I got (which stated that they absolutely could not help and the decision was final) was AI generated due to how robotic it sounded. The follow up GM (which took 30 minutes) got me a days play time and I was able to transfer my DH, easy peasy.
Just to clear up the lie all tickets are handled by real people who use templates people realy need to stop thinking ai taking over the world skynet and the matrix is fiction.
A lot of that templated letter you received initially was likely due to what ticket path you used. It wasn’t AI - it was a template that a real live person sent out. It was likely something that that particular flavor of GM could not offer, but going through the account/billing specialists, they were able to grant you that bit of game time.
Be that as it may - I’m glad it was able to get sorted! Thank you for coming back to let us know how things worked out for you. ^^
