Transferring a character to another account

I’m thinking about transferring an old character to my alt account that hasn’t much on it.

I want to transfer over because the character has done a lot of pre-cata quests along with unobtainable items.

How can I check what I’ll lose in transmog/achievements from my main account on that particular character? Or what I will gain by transferring to the alt account?

Assuming these accounts are under two different battle.net e-mail addresses, anything that is account bound, the wardrobe is a good example, will remain on the original battle.net account. That also includes most pets, mounts and any achievements not earned by the character being transferred.

They will gain anything that is considered battle.net wide on the destination account.

You can find all the restriction under the “Blizzard Account” option in the drop-down from the link below:

The transmogs will only transfer if you still have the item the transmog comes from in your bags, bank, or void storage.

Then the wardrobe acquired through quests don’t count even though the character had completed them?

It’s still wearing mostly unobtainable wardrobe and shirts. Also a bunch of unobtainable/unbinded wardrobe.

Only items the character takes with them. So anything they’re wearing or anything in their bank.

Just to chime in here… Any appearance that you acquired through a quest (from a bind on pick up item), should transfer when moving the character to another Battle.net account.

Just for a sanity check I’ve reached out to see if I can confirm that. I’ll provide an update when I get one.

Edit: Alright, I received word back that the general answer is that most appearances are bound to account so transferring will likely cause them to be lost, as they may not be included with the character.

That said, appearances associated with a completed quest by that character specifically should remain with the character but based on the many ways that this system acquires the appearances, it isn’t guaranteed.

Back when transmog first came out, I got the appearances from old quest rewards I had chosen for my armor type even when the quests had been completed years before.

I only got the appearance for other armor types rewarded by an old quest if I had also selected that armor type as the reward on a different character that could use that type.

Some quests, however had changed their quest ID since I had done them. I didn’t get those appearances added. For the most part, they were quests that had their ID’s changed when Cata came out.

It did take a couple of days to get hundreds of appearances added but that may also have been because everyone was getting their appearances updated then.

There are several omg addons available now that will put a message in chat when you learn a new appearance and others that will change and items tool tip to indicate if it is in your appearances for your current or another character.

Editing my previous response to hopefully avoid any confusion if someone were to miss the update.

Note: Items with the transmog appearance do not count, only the items that provided the appearance.

Thanks for the replies. I did the transfer, and it was about what I expect - most things transferred as long as I had something in my bags. That’s what I was hoping for, anyway, and I’m okay with that.

I transferred not knowing I had a fleet commander’s hat in my bank, earning aforementioned achievement on the alt account that has never stepped in Draenor.

So if someone were to transfer characters to their friends account and those toons had the MoP challenge sets, would the set go with the character or stay with the account it left?

Not likely gonna happen. You cannot transfer character to another persons account if the names don’t match.

Nope, they will stay on the original account, most transmog sets don’t transfer.

Damn, no hunter shoulders for me ever xD lol

what about mounts? I made an old account back then with a bunch of mounts that I have been too lazy to farm once again; for example the polar bear.

i created a new account for my wife to play (under my name) and she never bothered to play, so I kept that account and now is the one I use in BFA.

If I transfer my old toon to my now main account will I keep those mounts or only the ones gotten via achievements? also; the ones that I got via reputations/vendors, for example the argent cruzade ones, will those transfer as well?

They will not transfer, no. If the character is one that has class mounts like the Paladin or Warlock, those will transfer. Everything else is left behind on the source account.

Something you might be able do for reputation mounts is buy them and keep them in your inventory, and you should be able to initiate a transfer and keep them that way, unlock them on the new account since they’ll then technically be unlearned. Someone else will hopefully debunk this if I’m wrong, though.
