Thanks for the updates! Glad to have some communication the matter.
Yeah exactly. Iāve been across 3 servers now and finally ended up on Grobbulus back in June. It was super healthy and finally made friends / have a guild. Pardon me if Iām hesitant to jump already since this is the first time Iāve felt like Iāll have a healthy expansion experience.
So hereās me problem with this server transfer business. WoW always has been and always will be a big community backed game. This becomes even more true when looking at the lens of āClassicā
The issue is that specifically for classic in-game friends, communities, and guilds have been building since the second classic round was released. This was then enforced with the release of TBC.
So the issue is that now after years of players building guilds and in-game friend ships. Eco-communities being built the ābest viable optionā that blizzard can provide is to simple transfer to a new server.
I donāt believe making a player choose between a 3+ hr long que time and losing all their in-games friends and guild is the right choice.
My ask, moving forward could you, blizzard, think about better viable options than splitting up a community that you yourself helped to cultivate?
Will Eranikus eventually be unlocked?
Hereās a wild idea. How about instead of just locking Sulfurās you let some people transfer off of it. Iām sure plenty are in the same situation I am where their characters got stuck on Sulfurās because they skipped the poopiepants show that was tbc and now their characters are stuck on different servers from they old friends/guilds after everyone who was gone got consolidated onto Sulfurās. I wonāt hold my breath since why would Blizzard do something to help the community and server health when they could instead keep making some cash off the ridiculous server transfer fees.
Whatās that? Transfers are poison for the game? Gee, where have I heard that before? It couldnāt have been from one of those 20+ realms that were purged.
The problem with transfers was self-evident since at least 2019. They pit the realms against each other by treating the player pool as a zero sum game. The players reacted by throwing thousands of dollars at blizzard for the opportunity to screw each other over. Stupid games, stupid prizes, etc.
Question, as someone who has absolutely no involvement in this but is seeing some people trying to join their friends but unable due to mail and inability to clear mail due to queue:
Will you also be allowing people who submitted tickets for help transferring before the cutoff to transfer? Seems a bit of an oversight that someone who wanted to transfer before the cutoff but couldnāt due to technical limitations canāt join their friends who took advantage of the free transfer.
This. If I had confidence that Bliz would do the right thing when these alternate servers inevitably shrink, I would transfer in a heartbeat. But I know they will wait and wait and wait, just like they did as servers died in classic and waited all through TBC to do anything about it. They will wait until everyone has paid their transfers or quit due to server pops, then finally decide to do something.
mega servers should never have been a thing.
I think the long queues would be much more bearable, for me at least, if I could play retail while in queue for my wrath server. Many of my friends went to Grobb and most of my guild went to benediction. Luckily made my free dk on grobb before restrictions, but Iām Not waiting in even a 20+min queue when I could just hop on retail.
EF also didnt want to stomach the wpvp that was required. Cuddwy Kwoo from skeram went to EF because we wanted to have a robust AH for TBC but didnt want to create the one sided faction pvp servers people were creating.
In the end alot of the alliance players were not willing to devote time into keeping EF healthy, and horde was certainly not going to help keep it balanced (like grob horde does). So most of these stories are really player created, and that is why I have the stance that these issues are entirely player created/solved.
Players want daddy/mommy blizz to step in, but then complain the options given are not 100% aligned with their GDKP/late night alt consumption habits. It is crazy lol.
Hey Kaivax,
I think the one of the biggest thing that is preventing a more migration or % of folks taking the transfer is they are unsure of how long the server will last, because there have been folks who have been burned by transferring from a dead server to an active one, which then died right afterwards.
Can you address anything that Blizzard is doing so that folks feel confident about making the transfer?
It was talked about in the Community council about needing guilds and more of the community to transfer, but has there been any thought on how to do that, in a way that does address some of the concerns of folks?
Horde, come on over to Eranikus! Letās make a nice raiding community over here
Iām sure I missed this in the discussion some where, but I wanted to know why Blizzard chose to Merge servers (RIP Kirtonos) instead of allowing Cross Realm/Connected Realm play? I would have happily have stayed on Kirtonos had our realm been able to connect to others. (Same concept for the dungeon finder people are asking for, Low pop realms could have survived with it).
I recall when connected realms first started back on Black Dragonflight. Originally, I was against the idea, but it was just more people doing the same thing we were. But I dont ever recall a server queue time, and we played with Gulādan and Skullcrusher players. Some of the Lore was lost from BDF ( āOverrated was over ratedā ), but not like it was when you removed a server like Kirtonos completely.
And to that end, would Blizzard consider making connected realms for Wotlk Classic? Iād gladly move to a different server if I was able to still play with the people in my guild (and those on Faerlina who also xfer from Kirtonos).
Any hope of a new Fresh Start Server to help with that population/Que?
I currently canāt log in to my existing characters on Faerlina. Soā¦ all that hard work I put in on my two level 70ās? Gone? Whats going on Blizzard. Why canāt I play my characters?
not only thatā¦
this Server that closed had their characters automatically transferred thereā¦
Iāve never played in this realm and my 5 Thalnos allys are here.
They announced this a long time ago that servers being closed had characters moved to Sulfuras
TLDR:: Just let us transfer AND give us a āFree Transferā Token for when servers become bad again. The issue is thereās too much risk associated (approximately $25 per toon) to move off a Full/Locked Server.
If you would have been open about Server health and potential server mergersā¦ Our guild would have never left. We purposely left Kirtonos for Sulfurus to avoid Faerlinaā¦ but when people couldnāt even complete Heroic Dailiesā¦ we had to move. We stayed on Faerlina until there was literally 4 raiding guilds leftā¦ months after PUG Raids leftā¦
yea. Iām not arguing about it.
my observation is about the blue post stating that the population is 50/50, this number is inflated and artificial, as in my case, for example, having 5 chars that have never played on the server are entering the numbers account.
Actual and current ratio should be 70/30ā¦
yesterday I passed through Ironforje and stormwind and it was a desertā¦ Tanaris had 27 hordes and 3 allyā¦
hellfire 53 hordes and 12 ally (Numbers using SPY and WoWcensus)
