Me, as a trans person, whenever I fill out a form that asks for gender because I’m not sure if they mean gender or sex.

What’s the difference between gender and sex? is gender what you identify with, and sex is what you are assigned at birth?

I guess it depends
for example if I were going to the hospital I might concider using my assigned at birth sex option if I had a biological injury or illness. It may change to course of treatment and for my own personal saftey I would want a medical Dr to know that.

If Im filling out a form for literally anything else. whatever makes you comfortable

And they arent saying who that baby will grow up to be, they are literally saying whether they are female or male because that matters. If you dont know if someone is a male or female and its just up in the air, how do they know what medications to give them?

Growing up to do? That’s actually a really appropriate term. I want trans people to get to grow up. I know too many who never got the chance.

No, gender is not a social construct.

Yes, it is, and it’s not a debatable point. Gender describes social characteristics. Things like clothing, hair styles, and behaviors that become expected of someone with a certain gender. It’s an easy mistake to make to confuse sex and gender for synonyms, because they have often been incorrectly used that way.

Sex describes physical characteristics. Reproductive equipment, hormones, chromosomes, etc. Unless you believe the presence or absence of an external reproductive organ affects the clothing and expected societal roles someone fills, then you need to acknowledge that they are different.

It doesn’t help that words like “male” and “female” have been used to describe both sex and gender. It makes it difficult for people who don’t have a background in social sciences to easily discern the difference.

Medications don’t widely differ based on your sex. It’s body weight and blood composition, both of which can be accounted for after tests.

Unless the procedure is literally on genitalia, it doesn’t matter too much. Human is human
