Trading up Crests

Being added in 10.2:

  • Once a player has purchased all possible upgrades with a type of crest, they can visit Vaskarn in Amirdrassil to exchange those crests for higher level crests.
    • For example: Using Season 2 item level numbers, players would become eligible to trade their Whelpling Crests up to Drake Crests when every gear slot had reached item level 411 or higher. Trading up to Wyrm Crests would become available at 424 (again, in every gear slot, using the same rules as crest redundancy), and trading up to Aspect Crests would open at 437.

Glad to see this pointed out. I’ve been selling the lower level ones to not have piles of them in my bags. This is long overdue, IMO. I’ve always wanted to be able to trade up, even if the trade up rate was high.

This will bring back the +2 mythic plus grind. This isn’t a good choice.

Probably in the long run, but not at first with the 6 crest per week cap.

What’s the exchange rate? I can’t see it being 1:1.

Ehhh probably mid way through the season. Only once the cap gets high enough, but that isn’t that bad for catch up.

I mean with how many low level crest you get thrown at you for just existing in the open world I really do not see people spamming 2s. There is just so many reasons that make this not optimal early on.

We don’t even know the exchange rate and I doubt its 1:1. So if someone really wants to run 50 +2’s for a single upgrade then let them.

Overall this is a big W.

Ya between Whelpling and Drake crests they are easy to get in the open world makes sense. Also if you cap on crests like Aspects (it was mentioned a while back they may look into doing this) you might get the next tier below dropping for you.

I could see a 20:1 ratio being used and that wouldn’t be that bad.

Keep in mind we’re capped at 6 crests per week in 10.2. So at 20:1 ratio you’re talking 4 weeks to trade up a single crest :joy:

At least there is some stipulation. But hey.

I cant wait for the next round of “Blizzard only designs around the uber elite” complaints.

This is such a needlessly obtuse system it makes me dizzy

Didn’t catch that, thanks.
So it’s probably not going to be 20:1, so 5:1?

Now to make it perfect all they have to do is give us a BoA item to buy to send crests to alts.

No, we’re capped to 6 upgrades per week not crests. Crests are capped to 90 per week.

Oh, i misread. So it takes 15 crests to upgrade something…
Wait, they removed fragments, but now crests are basically worth the same as fragments?

Pretty much. So instead of needing many fragments to make 1 crest to upgrade we’ll probably earn more crests for a timed key and maybe just 1 for failed or something like that. And then it will just take more crests per upgrade instead of 1.

Even a 10:1 ratio would require 4000 whelp crests to make one aspect-level piece of crafted gear. If people want to put in that amount of effort to grind, I honestly think give it to them. I guarantee doing M+17’s for raw aspect crests will be extremely faster than spamming M+2’s for whelp crests to trade up.

The way I see it is just a nice way to not have to completely waste your efforts if you have some leftover crests of lower levels, or are running friends through lower M+ levels than you would normally do from time to time.

I like this change

People will grind the lowest key they can because they’re easier, safer, and faster. This will bring high ilvl players to lower level dungeons and make it hard for people with appropriate ilvl gear to progress.
