Trading up Crests

I don’t do open world. I also won’t grind +2s it’s very boring when you’re geared. But it’s a thing that happens and it negatively impacts the game.

Yes, but as soon as you hit the ilvl cap it is optimal to grind lower level keys of crests is your goal. Which as we seen last season with people grinding 11’s and later 16’s.

It undermines the whole crest system and it makes it so player can’t do appropriate level keys for their experience and ilvl because you have high score and high ilvls coming down to grind crests. It is objectly bad for the game.

The only reason to do this is to put a carrot on a stick for people who will grind low keys all season to slowly upgrade gear they get in their vault. So it seems blizzard is making this change for money.

No it doesn’t…

You have to have full 411 before you can upgrade whelp to drake.

You have to have full 424 before you can upgrade drake to wrym.

You have to have full 437 before you can upgrade wrym to aspect.

It probably will be 1:1 with that kind of limitation. You can’t really trade up unless you’ve maxed every piece you currently have.

Exactly this is nothing like how it was with valor previously. You’ll probably hit the cap off the weekly and a few world quest early on

You want to be pushing keys for upgrades anyways not spamming +2s…

Incorrect.

That would be a huge mistake. If it is 1:1 then using this season as an example, after I get to 437 ilvl in every slot I can do trivial WQs to earn aspect crests at an insane pace because all I’d have to do is convert them whelp>drake>wyrm>aspect at a 1:1 ratio each time.

I’m currently at ilvl 424 with every slot – but 2 – holding 424 gear.

The two exceptions are: ilvl 437 legs, and an ilvl 411 trinket.

The trinket, yes, I’ll have to replace with a 424 trink … but will I have to replace my 437 legs with a 424?

No, you would need 424 or higher not strictly 424.

I highly doubt the system is going to be efficient enough that anyone would waste the time for farm +2s for whelps…upgrade them to drakes …upgrade them to wyrms…and then upgrade them to aspects.

That would be incredibly inefficient, especially since there it is unlikely that the upgrades would be 1 to 1 conversions

That would be a terribly inefficient grind, not even remotely close to efficient as just spamming 16s.

Possible? Yes

Non-issue? Also yes

Thinking on it more, this seems like it would benefit heroic raiding the most since aspect crest acquisition is awful for raiding.

With mythic+, you have to be doing 17s to even get hero track gear to use an aspect crest which you already get from 16s so I don’t see it messing with stuff too much.

I know they are expanding the bands as well so I guess we will see when we have a more clear picture. I don’t like the design approach of do easy content a lot to get the same reward as harder content, but the tracks may prevent that from happening.

I didn’t even think about this, 10/10. It helps solves the issue of raiders having to M+. It doesn’t completely solve it, but it helps it.

Let’s say you are full “champion” maxed 437

You now can upgrade wrym to aspect

But… you have nothing that needs aspects unless you get “hero” or “myth” track gear.

Crafted gear being the exception I suppose.

Speaking of crafted gear I heard it no longer scales equally with mythic track items. It’s like 15 ilevel below. Altho that could just be placeholder numbers for PTR items.

It really does. The bands put a stop to the +2’s m+ grind that we had with valor.

I took their post as once you hit the ilvl break post you just get the next crest automatically 1:1.

So just like we had with valor the easiest way was to grinded +2’s.

But that will remain to be seen I guess.

That would be interesting for sure.

It does seem like maxed crafted gear would be easier to get with the new system unless changes were made. Idk how I feel about 15 ilvl lower but… maybe if it had a higher crest cost like instead of 4 aspect make it 8 or something.

You’re assuming there is a trade cost. Which they didn’t mention at all.

Finally! I’ve been swimming in useless Whelp and Drake crests on my Shaman for weeks. Good thing I didn’t just start vendoring them.

I’m sure the math will work out that it’s faster to just to higher level keys vs farming 2s.
