True but that was 15 years ago, most of the people going back to classic are all grown up now, I bet 30 plus in age will be 80 percent of the population, so even though it was bad back in the day, it will be a lot better than what it was 15 yrs ago. I played closed beta, and it was amazing, great community, and the retailers that got in stuck out like a sore thumb, and didn’t last more than a week.
If these forums are any indicator, the majority of classic players are toxic. Looks like the opposite will be the outliers, so I wouldn’t be so sure about your theory. I hope that’s the case, and forum the forum dwellers making threads about streamers, political garbage, and general troll threads is the minority. But having played WoW off and on for years, I doubt it.
Vanilla had tons of toxic players and classic will as well.
The amount of toxic players that will be present in Classic is the reason I favor RCR. Since it auto mutes and reports at the same time trolls, edge master 2000, political trolls, racist trolls, etc will be easily dealt with.
The 5-man dungeons in vanilla were easy enough that you could put together a group of noobs and as long as they were all the right level, you could clear the dungeon. There was no need to be toxic.
I hate toxic people just as much as anyone else, but if thats all that they said, you are overreacting. Thats not toxicity, it sounds like genuine apathy.
On some servers you can pretty much guarantee that no matter what you say, be it an innocent question about the game, or an innocent statement, you will get 3-4 people trolling you with hateful and rude replies that do nothing but bring down the quality of life of those reading and the person asking.
Toxicity is impossible to avoid in any online setting. There will be toxicity in classic too.
You forgot to mention that retail has more complex rotations than vanilla. From all the class guides for raiding, most classes spam just one ability the majority of the time. You should give credit where it’s due, even if you don’t like something. I don’t like retail either, which is why I threw in the towel after I seen they were continuing on in BFA with the same crap they did in Legion.
Clean out any mailboxes that I may not check before they auto delete.
Move everything off the AH so I won’t get that mail
ETC
Essentially park all
Raiding is such a small part of the game that that is really a non factor.
You know, I can only remember two people that struck me as toxic in the entire time I played Vanilla. One was a Druid named “Mobil” that I’m sure thought he was super clever and I’m sure the rest of the people reading his idiocy thought exactly opposite. The other was a very disturbed young man with a severe inferiority complex and a really poorly executed overcompensation problem. Maybe two Ninja loots, one in BRD, the other in Un’goro crater and I’m not sure that the Un’goro crater one wasn’t an accident.
Now being as I leveled three toons to 60 in Vanilla and that’s the only toxicity I ran across I’d have to say one of two things. Either I’ve lived a charmed life and magically avoided the horrible toxicity that you all seem to think was part of the game OR you people are thin skinned and toxic in a passive-aggressive manner and therefore inviting the toxicity down upon yourself.
I’m going to just be presumptive and assume that I’m a bit older than you guys and I’m going to waste a bit of my time trying to teach a life lesson. I’ve made my living in some of the toughest and most dangerous areas in the world and the one thing I try to do no matter how bad things get is to try to find humor in the situation, even when people are shooting at me. I have on more than one occasion made people raise their heads, eyes vacant and slack jawed as they try to wrap their head around the fact that I offered my assistance in teaching the local sniper (He never hit anyone important) how to shoot and that I didn’t really mind him shooting at other people but he was such an abominable shot that I was afraid I’d get hit by a bullet meant for someone else.
One of the largest problems in the world is the lack of humor displayed by people and their willingness to attribute negative acts to maliciousness rather than incompetence or apathy… If you’re laboring under the misconception that "People that treat me unfairly are bad" then what you actually have is an exaggerated self-worth problem, most people in the world don’t know you and don’t care to know you, the bad treatment was probably random and not targeted. There are bad people that will treat you unfairly, don’t worry about them… they’re bad and not worth associating with.
Also, grow thicker skin.
In WoW Classic you need to work your character day by day, while in retail Blizzard build your character day by day. That is the difference between each other.
And it is for this reason that many in retail are toxic and arrogant.
If only it were that simple because someone bound to sneak in an autogroup finder on servers with bigger populations then there use to be.
I really hope people will change.
I was gonna say something about participation ribbons, but you said it better without it being a hack cliche.
As an aside:
Thank you for your service.
That is an amazing way to put it.
Gold black market will be huge in classic. LOL. Classic elitists will be everywhere -at least for 6 months.
This aged like milk
Holy necrothread Batman!!!
Impressive necro skills.
That said, Classic community is at least 10 times more toxic than retail’s.
I disagree, I think overall we are the same community for the most part. Both player bases are a pyramid of achievers. Anything toxic in classic still exists in some form in retail to whatever extent it can be leveraged.
