Like the title says. This is a rant and its mostly just venting but I am beyond tired of the toxicity around cherry picking classes or the “meta” in mythic plus. And most of you will just say run with your friends or with guild mates, make your own groups and that is okay and all but it still pisses me off that I get left out constantly out of groups because my class doesnt bring enough to the table. No one should feel that crappy feeling like when Demo had no interrupt back then and were constantly auto declined or just in general when a rumor spreads that a class is dead and people buy into that and will literally avoid you completely. I hate this toxic culture in this game and in my honest opinion the devs are missing the mark with this and need to evaluate how mythic plus works because at the end of the day there are only 5 slots and right now some of those spots are aggresively reserved for specific classes. Yes I can make my own group, it still feels like shiet having to do so just because my class isnt “meta”. If you made it this far, forgive me I had to vent somewhere.
In my opinion the devs failed at class balance when the final slot of a group they wont fill unless its for example a battleshout or the ever amazing and mandatory hero or lust which is stupid considering drums exist but people are people. The recent giving a buff to shamans and how strong mages are has made this even worse. Guess I have to shut up and give people vers. Sad druid noises.
It’s life man. Those that are struggling to reach the top of that pile are not known for making allowances. It will not change. If a class is off by the slimmest of margins it is out. Impossible to balance for.
EDIT: Please note, I am nowhere near struggling to be at the top of that pile. I’m just struggling. So my offer to hang doesn’t really offer much.
I promise it’s not toxicity gating you. It is literally disparity between roles.
I can tank absolutely abysmally and I will be invited to just about any key. Likewise with healing. But WW is one I get to experience only with my friends.
Gotten BT and Normal raid done in full. My trick? Get talents done for both my off-specs and do a (somewhat ok) job at it. I was 4th in healing on both raids and the resto shamans were definitely the big dogs.
Unfortunately trash scum people will always dominate the meta. Both in video games and in society as a whole. Humanity just hasn’t developed proper quality control yet.
Devs really influenced this toxic community with their class balancing. People literally stare at empirical data, make conclusions, and place classes/talents into TIERS, which then get publicized and followed by the masses.
And here we are. Now, more than ever, nerds can come here to tell you, “Just make your own group.”
The way I see it. I don’t want to be invited to something that has no idea how to distinguish class from skill. Which is most pug groups. They’ll just pick the fotm instead.
Ive had guilds drag me into mythics lol. Where i did terrible, and they still wanted me back as an option.
Wow is what you make it socially. Avoid the bad groups, there’s definitely plenty of them, because you’ll have a terrible experience. Seek good people to play with. Its a myth that they aren’t out there. Plus getting into a good guild means nothing if you cant socialize competently. You get what you put into it. Good players and people to play with don’t fall on your desktop.
I feel you OP, but this sentence is incorrect and at the heart of the problem.
The Devs didn’t fail at class balance. Class Balance is something that players talk about and dream about, but in reality players AND devs don’t truly want balance. Balance means homogenization, an even playing field and then you can’t complain when you are terrible at your role. It’s happened before.
With all that being said, the issue with META stems from gamers themselves. That IS how the game has always been designed. Competitive gaming always devolves into min-maxing and no one is better at the min maxing development than World of Warcraft.
Sadly, this IS core to the game. You can’t have it both ways, be balanced even and equal to every single spec and role, while at the same time, incentivize better players than not so good ones and allow customization of gear.
It is a zero sum game, because people are trusting strangers to carry out a very time consuming activity. It’s only natural that you want the absolute best candidates to complete that task.
I have felt the same frustration for so many years playing a hunter. Being at the bottom , not fitting in , and not moving forward. Most of that time all i did was pvp because of my work schedule , 3rd shift .
Now , i play a mage . I no longer play my hunter because it doesn’t sever my propose anymore. I no longer do pvp either. I am doing very well on my Mage and don’t do 3rd shift anymore . Actually i am having a blast on my mage . I don’t know if i ever go back to playing a hunter again. Everything that mages have now is what my hunter used to have … lots of cc , traps , trinkets , escapism , etc … A bag full of tricks. Hunters no longer have those things , but mages do.
I guarantee you those keys youre signing up to have that many players also signing up that its more likely that these pugs are just inviting the first high ilvl they see.
They aren’t searching for specific classes as to a pug, ilvl is ALLL that matters.
Thats how its always been in the pug world, Preach made a video about this very thing back in legion & its as relevant today as it was all those years ago.
Because toxicity exists only in WoW?
Because the rest of the world is all gummy bears?
People are people, in WoW and everywhere else.
80% of them are great, but 20% have issues.
Just sigh and let it go.
