Torghast is stupid hard now

Layer 7 is mythic. Its going to be hard if you arent sufficiently geared.

They want to force people into torg groups more but dont have the cahones to admit they do. Certian classes have steam rolled their way to already having legendaries and working on upgrades. Apperently blizz doesnt like that.

canā€™t wait to try it after i get home. Layer 6 was so easy on tank

Iā€™m leaning more towards certain mobs slipping through the QA cracks.

Like most stuff feels fine, it hits hard and itā€™s got a lot of HP, but you can rule that to a gear issue, you kick what needs to be kicked and donā€™t overpull and it feels completely fair solo. Or at least it feels fair solo from a Warlock perspective, we donā€™t have it nearly as bad in that department as say, Rogues.

But thereā€™s just one or two mobs that feel ridiculously out of place. The spells hit too hard, they cast too often, and psuedo-interrupts (like stuns or knockbacks) which should act as an interrupt and put the spell on cooldown, do not, or they do so inconsitently.

I donā€™t believe sweeping reverts are needed, but more surgical changes. Target some mobs (Cromwell and Consulars are the top of my list in this regard) specificially, and balance classes through anima strength and distribution rates.

Iā€™ll defer to you and your experience. This ainā€™t your first rodeo, so if youā€™re seeing various uneven power levels, it very well could be improper tuning of abilities those mobs are using.

Dear Blizzard, thanks again for taking something that others could do solo and making it to where we need to join groups to finish it. You stated that this was something that others could solo to complete.
Yaā€™all are on something. You pretty much overtuned and destroyed my fave thing in the game.
This is ridiculous.

Im a ilvl195 brewmaster and im getting rekt, breezed through layer 6 last week too.

Iā€™m a 180 BrM and had the same experience. Level 6 I had no major issues with, but layer 7 I just quit on the second floor. It was just taking forever at the pace it was going. It really feels like Blizzard wants tank/heals doing it in groups and pushing them away from the solo route.

If you donā€™t burn the consulars immediately then their sin bolt spell, which ends up casting extremely fast, will 2 shot you. Then if you manage to get past them, you better hope you have the dps to kill a boss like cromwell fast enough too because his damage is ridiculous. Not only spell damage but after about a minute his auto attacks will do most of your health bar because of the torment this week.

I managed to make it to cromwell on layer 8 as disc at 185 in PvP gear but just didnā€™t have the dps to kill him before he got too powerful. Maybe they are tuned for higher ilvl but some of the mobs and bosses seem really overtuned.

Can you invis pot past the consulars?

Edit to add, Awkward answered below.

Any other expansion, sure, but you clearly havenā€™t been paying attention to whatā€™s been going on. Everything scales to offset any traditional means of gaming the system. Go full DPS so that you can take down mobs before they can damage you too badly? Nope. Blizzardā€™s going to buff their health to make sure that doesnā€™t happen. Get gear so that you can mow down mobs more quickly? Nope. Blizzard is going to scale the mobs to your item level. Item level is pretty much meaningless outside of raids and Mythic dungeons now. For years, Iā€™ve said that raiding gear should mostly be good specifically inside the raids. Blizzard took that to heart but failed to consider that non-raiding gear should still have a progression track that makes content outside of the raids easier as you acquire it. They met me half way, apparently. Raiding gear is now useless outside of raids, but so is all other gear. Iā€™m sitting on a 180 item level and my DPS meter shows bigger numbers now, but mobs arenā€™t dying any quicker than before.

It would be nice if they gave us a recommended item level so we knew what gear the floors are tuned for.

No, theyā€™re floor bosses. They caused my first actual wipe in Torghast, and I lost two 5-floor runs to them today. I only managed to beat it because RNG blessed me and I got a run where they didnā€™t appear.

I cheesed Cromwell with Smoke Bombs and one of the best rolls Iā€™ve ever had in terms of Anima Power, like infinite Rupture, 30% extra Mastery and 35% extra Haste and a bunch of other good traits.

I donā€™t expect every boss to be equal, but heā€™s way too far out of line.

Torghast is supposed to be roguelike content. Thereā€™s RNG involved with what animas you get. Just like any other roguelike game, at higher difficulty levels sometimes you need to recognize that you havenā€™t picked up any scaling power ups and restart early on.

Iā€™ve soloā€™d both layer 8 wings this week with Mythic 0 item level (184 equipped). When I do Torghast, I just restart if I complete floor one and donā€™t get either:

  1. A rare/epic strong single target anima power
  2. A scaling anima power (generally % based)

If you donā€™t get anima powers that can scale early on, youā€™re better off just re-starting. As soon as you get something that scales you push the run and it becomes very doable even at current casual gear levels.

I thought the whole point was you can get most of your soul ash from low layers so that players wouldnā€™t feel forced to do layer 8. So we can get our fun runs in and get most of the reward and the super try-hards can get bragging rights and slightly more soul ash for doing the insane difficulties.

I donā€™t think scaling is in Torghast and I do watch DPS blow stuff up, Iā€™ve watched mages, hunters, locks, and shaman all pull like 50k without one shot builds.

And Iā€™m sorry you donā€™t feel yourself getting stronger, I used to fear a lot of elites in the Maw and rares, now I solo them all. Going from average 2K dps in over world to 2.5k shouldnā€™t make everything suddenly take half the time.

Harder to get folks back into the game than it is to keep them. Of course look at the other Blizzard games. They are losing players all over the place. Trend is not looking good. Brain drain is really kicking in as talent seems to have fled for better paying positions. Canā€™t blame them either.

Wait, am I an employee of Blizzardā€™s now? Because that sounds like the sort of thing a boss would say to an employee.

The game is meant to be FUN. Not a second job.

Torghast by all accounts in alpha and beta was a blast to play. Everyone was raving about it.

What Blizzardā€™s served up to the live game is like Cyberpunk on an Xbox One S compared to the ray-traced GTX 30390 fun-fest their influencers marketed it as (and yes, those influencers marketed Torghast MASSIVELY on Blizzardā€™s behalf).

Itā€™s basically a bait-and-switch of the worst kind.

I guess Ionā€™s ā€œfeeling overpowered is not funā€ argument won the day for the final version.

Good to know I wonā€™t need to even bother, then.

What a shame they changed it from the all-out fun-fest it was originally designed as, where everyone could feel powerful for a little while.

I think it was Preach who guessed theyā€™d nerf the crap out of it because it made players feel so powerful the rest of the game felt like balls by comparison.

I bet out there somewhere is the original designer of Torghast, silently fuming because their creation got taken over by the ā€œgit gudā€ devs and turned into something it was never meant to be.

Iā€™m only on a 154 item level (have had no time to queue for dungeons and world rewards are non-existent now) and REALLY noticed a stark change once I got up around the 150 mark - this paladinā€™s taking a TON more damage from even the most trivial of mobs.

So Iā€™m not killing stuff any faster, but Iā€™m having to spam self-heals after every minor pull.

Meanwhile, my last-expansion-geared level 51 mage blows mobs away without raising a sweat.

This expansion is completely screwed up in terms of player power progression, and Torghast is just amplifying how terrible it is.

Was thinking everyone was blowing this out of proportion since thatā€™s what many folks here on the forums do best, but holy crap 0_0

Iā€™m by no means the best geared player (currently about 150) in the world, but I was doing layer three just fine last week. Now I canā€™t even get past the last boss on layer two of The Upper Reaches. I died once in the whole run on a bad pull, and now Iā€™ve blown the rest of my lives on Synod.

This isnā€™t even about randomly spawning mobs as those are at a minimum on lower layers. And itā€™s not just the last boss either. Everything in the run just seems to be hitting much harder than last week.

From fun and challenging to absolute frustration with the latest patch. Even on layer 6.

Not fun.

It definitely seems like they listen to the wrong people or have the absolute wrong idea in this type of content. I just barely did level seven yesterday and itā€™s a little ridiculous.

Yet another great idea ruined by this pervasive desire that everything needs to be hard and challenging in order to be fun. I donā€™t know where this idea originally came from but it has ruined pretty much all game design since it came about
