Exactly the problem with this. I was ready to continue the climb, not be set back.
Also, imagine if you were clearing +5s and each + to the key was a steady jump, so it felt like a good system of progression. They only gave you 2 levels a week to increase your key, so first week of M+ you could only do a +2 and couldn’t even try a +3 until the next week. +2 was easy. Next two weeks you get a couple more levels to climb with a gate. Suddenly that week’s cap becomes the target and you’re hitting it just fine every week, but it is getting a little harder each step up (this is good design)
Then this week rolls around and you get to move on from your +6 to a +7. You did +6 just fine so you go into your +7 and it’s just wrecking you. It feels like you climbed another 6 levels in that one. That doesn’t feel like the natural path of progression, it feels like somebody messed up.
Then you go back and do your +6, that’s suddenly harder too. How far do you drop? Do you spend the time figuring out where your new ceiling is? I wouldn’t.
Psst, you want to see something that would give you a chuckle? Go look at the forum posts from a couple of days ago about how bad loot drops are and how bad Blizzard Simps are getting.
I’m simply saying the game is in the best state it’s ever been, a lot of folks are enjoying it right now and the systems are working as intended. Failing Torghast is a player issue due to lack of skill or gear, this is not the system’s fault as it rewards both casuals and hardcore style gamers.

Yeah, gonna call you on that one dawg. Cleared a level 6 last week on my priest, definitely not easy due to ramp up mechanic but felt good getting it done. Walked into a 7 this week, first mob felt as hard as level 6 layer boss. Want to know what was fun and engaging and required skill? Mage Tower. Artificially inflating mobs HP just to drag it out is not hard, it’s tedious. Giving elites a ramp up mechanic that allows them to two shot is not hard, it’s stupid. All this did is increase the time to get done, and make it stupid. No way I can clear anything remotely close to what I did last week on my disc priest, and not through any lack of gear or skill. I can outplay and use all my cooldowns, but when the mob just starts dumping my hp because reasons then it’s not hard or fun. It’s dog hit with an s in front of hit.
This change in difficulty was deliberate and it was the change that a majority of players wanted, the thing about Layers 7 - 8 is that it requires a lot of kill and a good item level for minimal reward. It’s designed this way because reward is not the incentive, rather the satisfaction and pride of completing it. The lower layers are always available to do casually and they provide most of the dust, this way both casuals and hardcore players can have fun. If a system is this perfectly balanced, what is the issue?
You’re right, next week we should double the hp and damage of all of the mobs again so that the raiders have more of a challenge, since they increased their ilvl. Right? That’s exactly what you said? Oh, even better - let’s tie the mobs hp and damage ramp to the character’s ilvl so that as you progress your ilvl it remains challenging content. That actually sounds like a good idea, that way it doesn’t matter if you progress your character it will always remain a challenge! At that point… Why bother doing Torghast? If it’s going to be such a challenge and a chore, why not go learn how to rebuild an engine or something? That way at least you have something to show for your work, right?
Yep, people defending torghast have no idea what they’re talking about. Some of the bosses are hitting you for 80% of your health and once you run out of your cd’s you’re just dead. Unless you’re really lucky with anima powers you’re pretty much screwed. A complete waste of time.
Torghast is a 100% optional content, as I said before Layers 1 - 4 take 30 minutes a week to do for a legendary item. Higher levels don’t even give more dust, it’s solely for players who want to challenge themselves. If you don’t want to do Torghast, you don’t have to. You might not get a legendary, but most folks who aren’t going to be doing higher end game content probably won’t need it anyways. Again, there’s a gear path for both casuals and hardcore here.
Lol, okay. If I don’t want to do Torghast I don’t have to - I’m only going to tackle this one tidbit of your drivel. I want to do Torghast and can outplay the mechanics, but as disc I cannot do enough damage to the boss to get past his power growth. Unless I get 3x catharstick, I am SOL. Nothing to do with me not wanting to challenge myself. Nothing to do with a lack of skill. Nothing to do with gear paths. Content I was able to do before I am now unable to do, even though it was billed as such at Blizzcon 2019, your response is too bad so sad. My response is - make Ilvl not matter at all, make it scale based on Ilvl and make it so that all classes can do it. Currently it is an overtuned pile of horse feces, and no amount of defending it is acceptable. There is a problem when I, as a healer, get an anima power that increases my MELEE DAMAGE. That is not a challenge, it’s idiotic design. This is NOT beta, stop sitting there acting like it’s okay to pull a change like this after ALL THAT TESTING
